Excellent first time renting a campervan. Really blessed to have chosen them. Great team and you would feel really safe.

Much attention to detail. Thanks to Thomas who ensured that the child seat was of the right carrying weight for our kids. It was non-negotiable and he insisted that the right seat was provided. The pickup and return was seamless. They also offered to pick up and drop us off at the next venue for our trip

Many thanks to Maria too! She went above and beyond to return my ring to the airline Helpdesk so that I could pick it up before departure. 5 star dedication to service. Many thanks from the bottom of our heart!

Vehicle was good and well maintained. Good value and makes the campervan experience a very enjoyable one. Certainly not the rough camping trip I was expecting.

Great service. Good driving experience and really capable vehicle in mountains as well as gravel roads. Comfortable campervan.

Wilderness will also book ferry for you. Let them :-)

Would have liked a better mattress. As a Scandinavian we would have preferred quilt over sheets and blanket in bed (but this is probably just a cultural thing). Consider buying cheep quilts/duvet yourself.

The people are wonderful, warm, friendly, helpful, provide great advice & very accommodating. The campervans (Carado, sleeps 4 but we were only 2) was suboptimal; inside multi-levels were annoying, toilet was terrible (very small room with stinky toilet), USB & electrical plugs that didn’t work but it performed well on the road albeit pretty tight on many bridges. Overall experience was fine but a few negatives.

Seamless experience with extremely good information all the time. The RV was great, and everything was very well explained in the manual onboard. Pickup service was really great, and the same upon delivery.

Great van picked up in super condition. We had a small problem with a pipe and it was dealt with quickly and efficiently. Staff on pick up and drop off were friendly and very helpful. Definitely recommend.

We have spent 33 days in a Wilderness Compact Motorhome, travelling the South Island. The van was fantastic, a comfortable and reliable home that allowed us to enjoy camping in a range of beautiful settings. The van was the perfect size for 2 people and easy to drive. We had Wifi in all settings so could stay in touch with the world, if we wanted to! Staff were friendly and helpful. Information shared was excellent. We would definitely recommend Wilderness Motorhomes.

Our 7 day stay in Double for 2 motorhome was superb. The quality and comfort of the vehicle was exceptional. As was all the equipment provided. We were also extremely impressed by their customer service and support. Josie who met us on arrival at their very comfortable depot and gave us our orientation tour of the van was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and a credit to the company. We were also very impressed with their on the road support team who answered our questions promptly. Overall a 5 star experience from start to finish and we will definitely use them again.

Vehicle great quality and condition. Spacious enough for 4 people although we were only two. Staff were very friendly and helpful in planning our trip.
The 24/7 call service was such a bonus when we needed it.

Unfortunately the best I can give is 4/5 as we did have a recurring, intermittent problem with the motorhome. On 3 occasions, over 17 days, it would not start due to a flat battery. This resulted in us waiting for roadside recovery for 4 hours, and two 3 hour workshop visits. As a consequence we lost confidence in the motorhome and changed our plans in order not to be stranded in some of the more remote regions that we wanted to visit.

When we reported this to Wilderness they were very good in trying to resolve the problem, and if there were a separate score for this they would get 5/5.

However communications would only get 4/5. They half heartedly use WhatsApp, you can send messages to the same landline number they use for 24/7 support, but messages via WA, to the same number, are only monitored during office hours, why not 24/7? Also you cannot call them and they won’t call you using WA – why not? They sell Wi-Fi in the motorhome, which we had, but don’t allow you to use it for on the road support! Is it too difficult to have both a mobile number, fully utilising WhatsApp, as well as the existing landline for on the road support, both monitored 24/7.

They offered generous compensation (5/5) for the inconvenience and said we would receive it within a week, it took a little longer but we did get it.

I think we were unlucky but I have to reflect my experience in my review. Despite the problems we had I would recommend Wilderness and would consider using them again if ever I get back to New Zealand.

Top class in every way. Great customer service before, during pickup and drop-off. Fast, simple easy. The RV was perfectly equipped. Modern, everything worked great. Very comfortable bed. The fridge is quite big and the freezer works - keeping things frozen. My only suggestion...would be great if there was a take it/leave it box at the office for small things you buy, but don't use all of - trash bags, dishwashing detergent, etc. Super minor and only an added touch suggestion.

We have tried several RV companies in NZ and we just completed our second trip with Wilderness. The vehicles have always been top notch. Zero issues. Service start to finish was excellent.

Would like to see a location in Queenstown.

Fantastic Service from beginning to end. All inquires were received promptly, the quality of equipment was superb and a special thank you to Maria and Sven. We could not of had a better time!

Wow where do I even begin!!! Firstly we could not recommend Wilderness enough from the moment we booked our adventure in the Uk to checking in and the handover…… Kim was Amazzzzzing sooooo informative, enthusiastic, helpful, who would of thought handover would be such a laugh
And also not to forget Nathan the guy who is on the phone should you need any assistance while on the road, just amazing

We have travelled a lot around the world but never a motorhome experience and we absolutely loooved it truly the most memorable experience and NZ (South Island) you are breath taking 🙏🏼

Wilderness easily received better feedback than other firms we looked at. We then got feedback from a friend who had used Wilderness. It's worth paying that bit more for the extra attention you get from them. Leading up to the holiday we regularly had emails giving us more info,from the campervan itself to planning our route and places to see. They took care of booking our ferry for the trips between the islands. We were picked up and dropped off at the airport. Taking over and dropping of the vehicle was seamless. The vehicle itself was very comfortable and performed well throughout. We had a couple of small hiccups which they sorted very speedily. Nothing was too much trouble and when we return we will definitely use them again.

What a brilliant company to rent from. The team were super friendly and welcoming, the motor home very new and clean and the king/twin perfect for for adults if two are close enough to share the double bed (my wife and I are!). 😀 The motor home was surprisingly easy to drive and manoeuvring was simple. We got the VIP insurance which we didn't call on but was good peace of mind. Overall we couldn't have been happier, we will coming back to New Zealand and there is only one company we will be getting our motorhome from.

We hired a double for 4 as we were a party of 3 adults. The motorhome met our needs perfectly. On collection the staff were polite and friendly. We were offered a drink as the paperwork was completed and then shown around the vehicle. It was only a few months old so All, was clean and ready to go. We were provided with extra towels on request. As we were away for 3 weeks an extra set of sheets would have been nice.
The vehicle was easy to drive. We had no problems other than the over cab blind becoming fixed shut.
We would recommend this company to anyone who is looking for a reliable motorhome to hire. We have used other companies in the past, who we didn't look at again.

Wonderful experience with Wilderness. Booked the Double for 2 for about 9 nights in October. The team was fast in replying all queries from the start, we booked months in advance and they patiently answered all of my questions. Bridget was very welcoming at the Christchurch outlet, and she attended to us when we dropped off the vehicle as well.

The motorhome itself was spacious, comfortable and rather intuitive. When Bridget explained each component to us, I recorded everything she said - this was important as it’s a lot of information to take in. Do get the VIP insurance, it is pricey but definitely worth the peace of mind. The wifi is necessary too!
