An awful payment system with even worse customer service. They are always late paying you - often at the end of the day on pay day, and sometimes not until the following Monday for no reason. Their customer service is extremely unhelpful and inaccurate when you ask why payment hasn’t been received, and they never seem to know anything.
Absolutely the most frustrating payment…
Absolutely the most frustrating payment system! I did a job for a company that uses worrisome and 3 months later I am still trying to get paid, they send me round and round in circles
Unreliable payments, no real support - avoid if you can
I’m a freelancer based in Australia and have had an incredibly frustrating experience using Worksome.
I didn’t choose the platform - it was part of the client’s setup, but nearly every time I’ve submitted an invoice, there’s been a delay. Payments are marked “completed” in the system, but the funds don’t actually arrive for weeks. On more than one occasion, I’ve been waiting over three weeks with no payment, despite the client confirming they have paid Worksome and everything being approved.
To be clear, there’s another company involved in the payroll chain, and from what I’ve seen, they’ve been responsive and on top of things. The delays have consistently come from Worksome’s side. There have even been cases where the client paid Worksome promptly, and the money just sat there, with a new excuse each time for why it hadn’t been released.
Support is slow, responses lack transparency, and being in a different time zone only makes things harder to resolve. As a freelancer, it’s incredibly stressful not knowing when or if you’ll be paid - and having to chase things constantly is exhausting.
It’s disappointing that a platform built to support freelancers can’t seem to get the basics right. I’d avoid it if you have any other option.

Always seems to be some sort of problem every time it comes to needing to invoice. If that's not annoying enough, they often ask for extra verification via sms which takes on average about 2 hours to come through, by which time you've had to get back to work and its timed out. Don't bother using this company they are useless.

Use with caution, keep an eye on detail
Using this platform because a client wants me to (classic). So far I've found it to be concerningly buggy and I'm hoping to see some improvement as time goes on.
User-friendliness is okay, leaning towards poor. Site can be hard to navigate, sometimes the platform will tell you things like your information is incomplete to receive payment but will not tell you what is missing. On the plus side if you ask the customer service agents they can usually tell you quite quickly what you've missed.
One of the things that really bugged me was that the platform auto-generates invoices for you based on timesheets and unlike some other contractor payment platforms, does not allow you to choose your own reference numbers or upload your own invoices. I found this to be a pain for my personal book-keeping, because it means I have two completely different systems of reference numbers for no good reason I can see.
More concerning I noticed that my first invoice was generated with incorrect, artificially low numbers of hours (the good news is that at least the day rates and overall fee are both correct). Additionally I couldn't see my own invoice until the client approved the payment request, which is odd and a bit backwards. Considering the whole point is the platform supports financial compliance, I find it astounding that it is autogenerating invoices with errors on them and without the ability to create your own reference numbers. If Worksome allowed users to upload their own invoices, this would be less of an issue.
It's not the first weird false calculation bug I've experienced; the platform also autogenerated an incorrect, laughably low hourly rate for me (£5.88 I think) when I first signed up and input my day rate, even though I don't accept contracts that pay by the hour.
In terms of customer service, agents are responsive during work hours and perfectly nice, though they don't usually have the answer to bugs like above without further investigation. This is understandable but concerning when basic parts of the platform don't make sense, and you have to wait for an answer.
I wouldn't say to avoid them completely, but proceed with caution and have an eye on the detail (i.e. whether your rates and invoices are correct) to save yourself potential future hassle. Honestly I'm a bit nervous using a platform that has so many bugs so early in the experience.
Great company to work with
Communicating online with companies can often be a nightmare, but not with Worksome! Friendly, insightful and always helpful, it's a great platform to work through. Special thanks to Kim this time, as well as the finance team. Thanks again Worksome!
Really responsive and professional team
I had a bit of a mix up with my account details and they were not only helpful, but sorted my payment out within a few hours! From the moment i chatted with the team to the email they sent me, confirming the problem was all sorted, I was so happy with this platform and their team.
Shout out to team member Kim, who was marvelous.

I’ve always found Worksome an easy company to work with, but recently I had the pleasure of communicating with Emma - she went above and beyond and was a true asset to her organisation. I’d also like to throw in a thanks to the senior accounting team for helping me out, but again most of all to Emma - friendly, communicative and very helpful!

Worksome, and then some
I recently had to register on Worksome in order to collaborate with a client of mine that uses this platform. So it was my first time using Worksome, even though the choice wasn't mine. However, I must say the service has been brilliant, and beyond what I could have expected.
Long story short, I needed my payment to be expedited after I had completed the contract period for my client. Now, Worksome already has a reduced payment period (14 days) relative to the standard (30 to lord knows when days), but I really needed the payment sooner.
Deep down I knew it was probably a lost cause, however, if you don't ask, you don't get, right? And so I just sent an email and a prayer asking for an expedited payment and hoped for the best.
And to my surprise and delight, the gods, or rather a Worksome angel named Emma got back to me with a lovely message saying "as a gesture of goodwill, we've pre-paid these bills into your Worksome balance due to the exceptional circumstances."
Considering how many jobsworths would have relished making my life gratuitously difficult in that moment (I mean seriously, how do they wake up thinking "I'm an ok person"), Emma and the Worksome crew did me a real solid. Thank you.
Worksome. Not Irksome.
Quick to help and real people rather than bots. Plus prompt payment and all the annoying tax stuff sorted as standard.
super responsive
Kim was super responsive and kept me updated during issues I had with invoicing (which was no fault of their own)

Thankyou for your reply. But it does seem your putting a positive spin on things when the reality has been a very negative experience. As listed in the guidance from HMRC themselves my role as Focus Puller is deemed to be outside of IR35. Plus I'm an employee of my own limited company so quite why my status needs to be re-checked is beyond me. This process has only complicated things. I believe things will change again in April this year with some of the more onerous checks being abolished.

Honestly
Honestly, Worksome is my favourite freelance management portal.
Unsupportive and impersonal
My first experience with Worksome as a freelancer and there has been constant confusion and issues. Firstly picking up hefty Employer's NI costs which HMRC said themselves was against their guidelines and is illegal. Secondly I had Employer's pension and Employee pension deductions passed on before even being enrolled. You get replies on customer service but the whole platform and they way it's set up is impersonal and unsupportive with complicated matters. I would really avoid having to use the platform again as it's been costly and complicated.

Worksome are a terrible platform
Worksome are a terrible platform. Avoid if you are trying to make a career as a freelancer or contractor in the UK. They won't set up dedicated Pension contributions in their payroll, for no valid reason. If you want a serious umbrella company, go to Parasol or someone that knows how to look after UK contractors.
