TLDR: Charged over $1000 more than quoted, extra costs thrown in at the last minute contrary to advice for preparing appliances etc for movers, intimidated by movers to leave a good review multiple times mid move, took 4 hours longer than it should have, bed base completely saturated and damaged, hired 2 people only 1 moved things to and from the truck to the point that I ended up having to move things myself at 6 months pregnant to save time and money.
For context, I have worked with MANY moving companies for work and my own personal needs. I am not new to the process, nor the time it takes.
I was originally quoted just over $1600 for a small 2 bedroom flat move. I sent through a complete inventory of everything I owned minus boxes, pictures of my stairs and stair count, links to the heavier items listed online for exact volume dimensions and importantly weight. Despite receiving a cheaper and fixed cost from another company I went with AAA because they seemed so trustworthy. I am 6 months pregnant, unable to do a lot independently as a result, and most importantly didn't want to be taken advantage of financially at this very expensive time of life.
Rond and Michael - Truck 14 - were my movers. (Any negativity from this review should not be attributed to Michael who was an absolute MACHINE and a gentleman).
Extra fees presented on morning of move – I was told the day before on a call with the company that moving blankets would be used and so no need to pay for wrapping but this was dismissed by movers. I didn’t see any blankets used, but saw plenty in the truck.
Was told on the phone to prep all appliances out of regular moving boxes and they would be protected by moving blankets, again not an option according to the movers which meant that I ended up moving them all myself in my car somewhat defeating the purpose of hiring help and risking my pregnancy and health.
Michael did a stellar job of running all of my things down to the truck, Rond was arranging things in the truck but very slowly which meant Michael basically did the whole move alone in the same time, though this took 5 hours instead of the estimated 2-3. It was taking so long that I ended up moving things down to the truck myself to save time and my money.
I understand that load/unload times are estimated but it took the other movers only 2 to load when I moved into the same flat.
Rond also wanted me to give him permission to force my furniture up the stairwell of my new house damaging the ceiling. My Mum had to point out that if they just angled it slightly it would fit perfectly, which it did. There is still some damage to the ceiling.
Payment had to be made for the move when my belongings had been packed up in the truck which is when even more costs arose which frankly felt a bit like holding my stuff hostage.
At the same time Rond also pressured me to leave them a good review insisting they did a good job and wanting to stand over me and review it as I did it. Pretty certain this is against consumer law but that didn’t stop him from doing it again several times throughout the very long day.
Rond also threatened several times to change me for stairs – even counting them throughout – and overly heavy items. I had already sent pictures of the stairs with stair count and had showed him that I had an agreement in writing that I wouldn’t be charged extra, but he continued to complain about it and acted as if he was doing me a favour by not charging me. He also told me that items were over 80kg even though I had sent links to the exact items with dimensions and weight online from the retailer and had confirmation in writing that these would not be charged. The same cycle of threatening to charge and then acting as if he was doing me a favour by upholding my written agreement followed.
Obviously, I wouldn’t recommend this company. I was expecting really great service, peace of mind and trust and I don’t feel like I received this at all.

AAA will find any way possible to charge you more on your moving day !! ... I completed an inventory list, they sent a truck that was too small. We spent the first 45mins working out how to get a 2nd truck .. All the while charging me .. I then had a call from one of the bosses who said to me 'we can either come to some agreement or I pull my boys off the job" !.. this was on the day of the move .. this was a man speaking to a female and was nothing but intimidating and bullying language .. on the day of the move. What choice did I have .. Disgusting and intimidating behaviour.
The removalist do not work efficiently. There were 4 men unpacking one truck at a time. 3 were creating a chain to pass boxes to me and one other guy !.. ME .. yes I had to help to get the job done ! I had to also suggest that 2 of them start unpacking the 2nd truck to save time ! ..
Needless to say if you want to deal with a company run by intimidating bullies who have full control of the situation as they know you need to move on a certain day and have all your possession in a truck .. and who know how to work slow, then go ahead and hire .. The only guarantee is that AAA will add more stress to what is already a stressful day ....
Our experience with AAA City Removalist was incredibly unprofessional. We had arranged for the removalists to start at 7:00 AM, but the truck did not arrive until 10:00 AM.
When the team finally arrived, they showed no acknowledgment or apology for the three-hour delay.
We were quoted for the smallest truck for our one-bedroom home and were assured it would suffice. However, on the day, the truck was packed so inefficiently that it required two trips to the new property. This caused the originally quoted three-hour job to extend to nearly five hours, even though the transit time between properties was only 20 minutes.
To make matters worse, the drivers got lost during the second trip, taking 55 minutes in transit, which, along with the extra time, added $350 to the bill for exceeding five hours. On top of this, there was also an unexpected $175 call-out fee.
By the end, after helping with the unloading myself, I was charged over $850 on top of the $200 deposit, despite being quoted $640 total (excluding the deposit).
This company’s quoting practices are deceptive. They rely on unreliable equipment, are consistently late, and fail to disclose hidden fees upfront. Worse still, they appear to manipulate customers by leaving items in the truck, forcing them to pay inflated charges—such as the $350 fee for exceeding five hours and the $175 call-out fee—just to complete the job.
AAA City Removalist demonstrated unprofessionalism, poor communication, and a lack of integrity. I would strongly advise against using their services.

Mathais and his crew did a wonderful job. They worked very hard all day to get the job done. Mathais also went above and beyond by fixing a couple of things that that needed fixing. Nothing to do with the move. I would not hesitate in recommending them to anyone needing to move furniture and boxes. Very professional with a cheery disposition all day despite the heat. Thank you AAA City Removalists.

During the pre removal discussion I was asked to ‘trust the removalists; they do it every day and are professionals.’ So I did - which was very good advice. On what could have been a very stressful day, all ran smoothly.
