Absolutely awful hotel

Absolutely awful hotel. Reception were curt and downright rude. Staff acted bored and as though they didn't want to be there.
The room was small with the tiniest bed for 2 people. Only 4" wider than a single bed. Pillows rock hard and to cap it all the night porter rang the room phone at 1am and then again at 1.15am for no reason other than to wake us up.
It was hard enough to get to sleep due to the noise in the hotel until 11pm as it was.
I would not recommend staying here.

All round excellence

What a lovely stay! Beautiful hotel and the staff couldn’t have done more for us. Louise was really helpful in sorting out some of our requests, and she was totally charming and lovely throughout. Katie and David were also really helpful and friendly, and a special mention also goes to Craig the chef who went out of his way to make things perfect for us. We had a really lovely room in the old part of the building, and were able to wander around the gorgeous grounds. Couldn’t have been better.

Beautiful venue, fabulous staff & amazing food

Stayed here the night of our small, intimate wedding after being spoilt rotten in Oscars Restaurant downstairs (which I’ve elaborated on below). Stayed in the Craven Suite which was amazing - pure luxury! Every effort was made to make our room that little bit extra special - towel swans, rose petals, congratulations card etc. Breakfast the next day was beautiful & check out was 11am so had time for a snooze post breakfast before re-entering the land of the living out of the wedding bubble. Loved our stay & will undoubtedly be back for anniversaries xx

With regards to Oscar’s Restaurant, we were here as a group of 24 people after a ‘secret’ wedding in town (guests only found out 36hrs before). The staff were so patient ahead of the day with regards to changes in booking numbers as people said they could / could not attend the ‘family meal’ we’d booked. They agreed to not receiving the food orders in advance as they usually prefer to do for such a large booking to avoid arousing suspicion.
On the day we were BLOWN AWAY by the efforts made to decorate the room & the table for us & our guests. It looked stunning! Again, the staff were very patient with us as they desperately tried to get our food orders around photographs being taken & hugs & kisses & what not.
The day of the wedding was the first day of the new Autumn menu & everyone ordered whatever they wanted. The food was a roaring success!! I personally had the curried cauliflower soup, the ribeye steak & the sticky toffee pudding & can wholeheartedly recommend all three! But everyone raved about the food all evening.
We were treated unbelievably well & with such patience for a loud & excitable group.
To the young blonde lady who took our orders & looked after us most of the evening, I wish we’d got your name! You handled us with patience, grace & a friendly smile. I hope you received our gift to share amongst your colleagues.
Gorgeous venue, fabulous staff, & simply amazing food. We will, without a doubt, be back for many anniversaries to come. Thank you for making our day so special. X

Heather and Her Sisters

I don't write reviews but felt compelled to this time because of the wonderful service we were given by the staff at Abbey House Hotel and Oscar's Restaurant particularly Louise who looked after myself and my sisters when we had afternoon tea, also to Lara who provided us with the lovely sandwiches and patisseries and King who served our prosecco. We were able to transfer outside to the lovely gardens and spend more time there as we were made so welcome. Would definitely book again.
