Software friendlish, advisers help Great!

It takes a little while to figure out the software, which is probably more suited to a regular rather than once a year user, but there are guides & videos which are really useful and after a play it quickly makes sense.

The part I love the best is if you are stuck you can call & they have competent advisers who efficiently talk you through the screens & quickly get you sorted.

Absolute Accounting Software Limited…

Absolute Accounting Software Limited offer an excel based VAT submission tool, which although basic, does provide an alternative for small businesses who use spreadsheets for their accounts (like us), to having to use expensive digitial submission software.

However, if you submit your VAT returns quarterly, their charging is completely unfair. Absolute Accounting sell a minimum of 10 VAT licences at a time, which all expire after a year. Most small businesses will only have used 4 of them before they are forced to buy another 10. Of which they will continue to only make use of 4 before having to by another 10...

It's another example of an accountant deliberately taking advantage of and overcharging small businesses.

Absolute Accounting offer a cost effective service for filing a CT600 for a limited company

Absolute Accounting offers a useful service that i did not know about until recently. They provide software to allow you to file your CT600 for only £25 + VAT. This is substantially cheaper than most of their competitors so I tried this service for my company's tax filing this year.
The service offers a filing for up to 5 companies (or also for other legal entities for that matter). It is clearly stated that you must have first prepared accounts for the company and that these accounts have been converted to ixbrl. However, (and i dont believe this is clear before you buy) the program does not take any information from these ixbrl accounts so that the information on how the entries should be put into the CT600 has to be re-entered and you can't rely on having correctly allocated income and expenses to the correct accounts in the ixbrl set of accounts.
This may a major issue to some as it involves more work that buying a package from the same supplier for both accounts preparation and tax filing.
However, Absolute Accounting's support was responsive and good although they limit their advice to how to use their software rather than into which box in the CT600 your entry should go. If you do know the correct box then this software will provide you with a cost effective solution that i would recommend.
One small other issue is that their software does not support box 255 (management expenses for an investment company) and i am not sure what workaround would work here so be aware of this limitation before you buy.
Otherwise i recommend this product as a good cost effective solution for Limited company filing of a C600.

Unreliable and untrustworthy

I have used TopUp Tax from Absolute Accounting for 16 years to submit UK self-assessment tax returns. This year I had to reset my password on their website so I could purchase a new licence to submit my tax return, but the password reset function didn't work. I followed their instructions to follow up but I didn't get a response. I emailed them again and included someone in technical support and the GM; no response. I tried to get a response by email 4 times in total; zero, nothing, nada. I guess they've gone out of business or have no need for more customers. Avoid and use GoSimpleTax instead.
