Victim for a Fraud hosting on Airbnb
What happened to us with kuta (Bali) accommodation booking shouldn’t happen to anybody else. We booked this accommodation months ago after carefully checking the location, price and amenities and on the day we are about to use the accommodation we get to know it’s a fraud!! That host doesn’t own the property anymore!! How am I supposed to know, if hosting platform itself doesn’t know!!?? Airbnb has been around for over a decade now, you can’t take care of minimum security features!!!?? Can’t you verify the host genuinity better? Think from customer’s position! You go stand in front of villa u booked only to find out you don’t have a booking, where are you supposed to go? With two kids by your side !!?? And your service was even worst! Even under such critical conditions, you took your own over half day time to sort things out? Where should we go? Stand in hot sun n sweat while you sit in AC and sort things out? And the resolution is even worse! For 59$ additional fund what do you expect us to get? We paid another 500$ out of pocket to book a new accommodation! If I wanted to spend 1000$ for accommodation, I would have done that earlier itself ! Just because you dint do your job rite, dint verify the genuinity of the host you let host property on your website we went through all these plight !
Your security, service, resolution everything sucked! And we had to suffer real bad between our dream holidays !
I am an Airbnb super host in Brisbane…
I am an Airbnb super host in Brisbane Australia. I've always chosen to book only 5 star rated super hosts with a flexible or moderate cancellation policy. We've travelled the world using Airbnb accommodation, by making these sensible choices we've never once had any issues. If you choose to select a non super host, make sure you read their reviews as they may be new to the platform and check their cancellation policy. Try to avoid the hosts with strict or super strict cancellation policies. Regards Tony and Jane
We are a victim of travel issue last 6/7/22
We are a victim of travel issue last night from our host who cancelled our booking a day before we started our accomodation because of issue in the house. We payed nearly $500 extra just to get another accomodation because its school holiday, this is on top of airbnb aircover, it didn’t do much. So meaning, if you are booked on airbnb, on peak season, even not your fault, you need to pay additional money to get not even an equivalent accomodation. We booked 2 bedroom unit, got cancelled, we git 1 bedroom house nearly 700 dollars plus more because of peak season. They didn’t do alternative accomodation which is written in their airbnb rules 4.2 guest rights.

Greedy host Alastair at Kirribilli
Just like the reviews below these greedy people took 50% of our booking plus $369 "admin" fee when we had to cancel due to the Syney lockdown. We live in Sydney and though we were playing safe! As previous reviews state they just hide behind a cancellation policy which ignores sporadic lockdowns and they pass the buck between company and host. We asked for another date and were refused too, disgusting! Yes bye bye Airbnb, never again !!!
Unconsionable Conduct
If I could give zero I would. I booked 'The Gem' in Jindabyne for a family ski trip and paid a deposit. A couple of weeks before we were to go there it became clear that Covid restrictions would prevent us from going, so I cancelled before the final payment was due. I queried the Host on refunds and was told we would definately get a 50% refund. That refund never came! Airbnb were completely useless, just deferring everything back to the Host. The Host said it was nothing to do with her and kept saying we would get 50% back. We were referred to the Terms (not read in total prior to booking and I doubt many do) which said that there is an exemption from refunds as a result of Covid closures???????? After a lot of digging it is clear that the refund policy is entirely with the Host and in our case she continually deferred and blamed Airbnb. I would recommend that you not book either through Airbnb or 'The Gem' in Jindabyne.
Wish I could give zero star
Wish I could give zero star. NEVER EVER use this bunch of thieving conmen. We booked a 5 day break back in February for September in Victoria . When Victoria premier announced lockdown in Melbourne We contacted our host and Airbnb immediately to see if we could postpone/cancel indefinitely as no one knows when restrictions will be lifted. Needless to say no help at all from them. They told us this does not fall into their "extenuating circumstances" policy for refund. After a huge fight with them and the host we have managed to get the cleaning fee back but they refuse point blank to issue a full refund. Absolutely disgusted with their lack of compassion on what are very trying circumstances.
Not even 1 star!
Have only given 1 star because I have to. NEVER EVER use this bunch of thieving conmen. We booked a 5 day break back in February for September in Sydney. We were emailed by the airline to cancel and issue a credit note when it started to look like lockdown was going to happen. We contacted our host and Airbnb immediately to see if we could postpone indefinitely as no one knows when restrictions will be lifted. Needless to say no help at all from them. They told us this does not fall into their "extenuating circumstances" policy for refund. After a huge fight with them and the host we have managed to get 75% of our costs back, but they refuse point blank to issue a full refund. Absolutely disgusted with their lack of compassion on what are very trying circumstances.
Never again
I'm was an existing Airbnb user. I paid for a 6 week stay with a host.
Shortly after, Airbnb requested ID. I took photos of my driver's license, but they said it wasn't clear enough. I did it again, you could clearly see the details. They rejected it.
I then spent an hour trying to upload a picture, which they kept saying was too large.
In the end they rejected my booking, as I took too long to provide ID and advised my refund may take days to be refunded. Luckily it was refunded quicker, but that's a lot of money. Should have asked for ID before money. Also should make it easier to provide ID.
Scam Company!!!!!
During our stay some money was stolen (in our room) our host didn’t helped us. And after this we informed Airbnb asap and they didn’t helped us neither!
We will never book again with this scam company!!
DO NOT BOOK WITH AIR BNB NO REFUNDS!!
DO NOT BOOK WITH AIR BnB during COVID. NO REFUND. I am not even going to explain my story, clearly it is similar to everyone here. All I will say is that it was no REFUND if I cancelled my booking I did not cancel but the hosts to $1650 and refuse to even give me a 50% refund due to the WA border closing the night before I flew and couldn't use the accomodation. THIS COVID POLICY IS DISCUSTING I am a single mother who needs this money. Qantas refunded me my $650 for my flight, Luxury Escapes refunded me my 2 nights in Perth but AIR BNB just said a FLAT NO. Discusting DO NOT BOOK EVER WITH THIS RIP OFF COMPANY.
I've been an AirBNB user for several…
I've been an AirBNB user for several years. I've logged about 140 experiences as guest, perhaps 100 as (super) host.
I've had a few recent bookings with them after the coronavirus started and I'm completely shocked at the company's behavior.
I've read their Covid 19 and Extenuating Circumstances policies several times closely and have concluded they do virtually nothing to provide safety and security of guests while booking during a difficult time.
#1 - we booked a trip to Uruguay for an early May arrival for about a one month stay. Shortly after we booked and paid, Colombia closed its airspace completely. In other words, it would be impossible to get there. We immediately informed AirBNB and were told that tis was NOT covered under the extenuating circumstances policy despite it being mentioned there. The issue revolves around date. Booking had to be made before March 14 with a check in date between March 14 and July 15. We reserved after March 14 and were told the policy did not apply to us. As such we were not eligible for a refund and the decision is the host's. Our host seemed like a lovely, responsive person in Uruguay who flat out refused the refund. We were out close to $1000 and there was nothing we could do. Several calls and emails to AirBNB support were a waste of time. Unlike the airlines, who have refunded or credited me for every reservation I've had that has been impacted in any way, AirBNB does the exact opposite. So my advice to travelers is this: do not book an overseas trip with AirBNB until you are already in the country you are going to. If you cant get to your destination for any reason AirBNB will not refund a nickel, including any payment to host and their fees. If the airlines are more reasonable and fair than airbnb I guess that says a lot. I'll be closing my AirBNB account after completion of a three month stay in Colombia, where I already am and don;t encounter that risk. It's shocking to me that AirBNB does this. Pay no attention to the marketing rubbish on their website about the topic. It's for a limited number of historical reservations and does not include anything booked post April 14 or beyond. It's an attempt to make you feel good but there is nothing there. Notably when I was a host and a guest had verifiable travel problems, I always cancelled and refunded . Our host chose not to, although he wrote an email saying we had a credit at here place. I have no idea if it is legally binding, but the east solution is AirBNB create a voucher, which the client can easily use. We can't simply change the dates as we have no idea when Uruguay will open its borders and when Colombia will open its airspace. Atay away , very far away.
#2 - on this trip to Colombia we had a one month plus stay at a lovely home outside of Medellin. All was going well until a weekafter check in where I encountered very serious anti-semitism on the part of an employee of the host. I immediately notified both AirBNB and the host and old them I was leaving that day, as I have no tolerance for any type of discrimination (racial, sexual, religious, etc). I provided AirBNB with all documentation *including text message where the host admitted everything , was told I'd be entitled to up to $1345. In the ensuing weeks I've written and called AirBNB at least 10 times who have failed to act - make a decision or issue a refund - despite their claims on their website about their intolerance for discrimination. They don't respond to emails other than with form letter responses and it's clear to me they could care less about my issues or refund.
This is a company that is as insensitive as they are greedy. After a seven year history with 200 stays involving thousands of dollars of fees paid to them, they don't seem inclined to act on either of these issues. As such I'm closing my account when my last trip ends September 2 and will never use them again. These are fundamentally bad people with a track record that matches.
The Only Honourable Accommodation Provider During the Pandemic
We had 3 months of travel booked when the pandemic hit and borders closed. Airbnb was the only company of all the airlines and travel providers who have acted honourably and with respect towards their customers. They have refunded all my bookings in full and very quickly unlike all the others. I will only ever book with Airbnb from now on. They have proved that they can be trusted.
AN ABSOLUTE RIP OFF
Airbnb
I’ve used the app three times and the experience on all occasions was good. I’m posting g three stars because I think it’s a little pricey.
No Free Refunds for All Affected by COVID
Airbnb is not offering free cancellation for all those who cannot travel due to Corona Virus. Money grabbing and leaching at a time of international distress. Poor show. Sack the heartless management who make such greedy, unkind decisions.
Watch time if you cancel within the 48 hours "free" cancellation.....
I looked at a house on Airbnb and asked the host if it would be suitable to paddle board, I was told it was. I booked the home but after driving up to take a look, the water did not seem deep enough (could have run with the tide) so I cancelled the booking, believing it was in the 48 hours allowed.
I knew I had cut it close and the Airbnb site dropped me out 3 times while trying to cancel. Airbnb’s pop up message told me I would get my money back in 3 to 5 days, so cancelled
After 7 days and no refund I contacted Airbnb and was told it was my bank holding the money as
Airbnb had returned it immediately.
2 weeks later and no money, I again contacted Airbnb and was told I would not be getting a refund as I had missed the 48 hour cancellation by 6 minutes. (Coincidence airbnb site dropped me out 3 times caused me to go over the 48 hours)
There is no way I would have forfeited nearly $400.00 to book accommodation in the same town and the same dates. I would not have cancelled if the pop um message had of said I would lose my deposit.
Please be warned when you look at the cancellation policy on Airbnb, it means after the 48 hours they keep 100% of the deposit then after 14 days they will debit your account of the remaining price to cover 100% of the cost. I read it that they would keep 50% of my deposit…not so
Traumatic experience with Airbnb
The rational for providing a 1is as follows - last year I used my anz credit card to pay for my accommodation in the lower north island. This credit card I lost sometime later so I cancelled this card and received a replacement card. I booked an apartment in Central Auckland using my new replacement anz credit card whereby the 1st initial deposit was accepted. I received a receipt and confirmation notice with the credit card details of the new replacement credit card. The 2nd deposit was due but this is where my experience turned negative. Someone in the Airbnb payment area used my cancelled anz credit card for this payment - why have no idea because within the Airbnb payment system it shows the new replacement anz credit card plus the 1st deposit shows the correct anz credit card. When I received this declined payment notification I began a journey of trying to get a solution driven answer from Airbnb with the support of the host. It has been a traumatic experience with the Airbnb support centre trying to intimadate me by stating that it was my fault that the original lost replacement card was used by their organisation. Wasn't having a bar of that behaviour. The host and I agreed to support each other through out this ordeal. As a paying customer all I want is for the Airbnb payment area to use the validated anz credit card used for the 1st payment to pay the 2nd payment. How hard is that...Very difficult by the reaction of the Airbnb support area. If you didn't know any better it's like comedy on wheels.
Airbnb, silly prices in JB
Taking Johor Bahru as an example, there are many nice small hotels, less expensive then Airbnb places, and it's easy to visit / check a hotel using grabcar.. we tried a few before finding one we like, here for two months already .... ;)
At first my experience was miserable
At first my experience was miserable. I booked on a strict policy and didn't quite understand what it meant so instead of verifying it with the company itself I decided to affirm it with my host. I asked my host if I were to cancel would I receive my full refund back and he stated yes. When I cancelled my reservation as I had found better down the line I waited days for my refund back with still no money back in my acct. I called airbnb to work this out. They stated that the Strict Policy meant partial refund and not full. I decided to fight it out with them as I had been lied to by the host. At first it was tough as the hosts were firm on the policy, but eventually they gave me my refund and saw my side of the story. :) Point is although the whole thing was stressful we worked it out in the long run. Inevitably the real thing I am annoyed with is the host lying to me and putting me through this whole situation.
Moral of the story, read fine guidelines and double check reviews on hosts first!
(I noticed after I cancelled that the host had iffy reviews)
