B**** competition

There is really no other way of putting it: it's as if the air hostesses are participating in a rudeness competition (I would use another word but Trustpilot doesn't let me). On my Madrid-Lima flight, the hostess in charge was tremendously rude to elderly people that required assistance to board the plane and yet showed up with hand luggage. I can see why she's bothered that elderly people board with small suitcases and then need help storing them. I understand that lifting 10 kg many times a day, every day is annoying. I agree that people who require assistance should just check in all their bags. BUT there is no excuse for how many times she said it; how loud and aggressively she said it; how she made sure that the whole plane heard it; how her colleagues joined the chorus; how they spoke and looked at passengers with disgust. At the end, they almost started a mutiny from passengers because they were just SO rude and out of line. This was totally unacceptable, especially from the hostess in charge, who should be leading by example. It made everyone extremely uncomfortable. Now, on the way back, they did the exact same thing — a pack of hyenas bullying a passenger and making sure everyone was aware of their poor opinion of the passenger. Except that, of course, nobody would take the staff's side, seeing how they were being so rude. What happened: Someone in seat 21K had ordered a Kosher meal — but the hostess delivered it to seat 17K instead. The passenger probably didn't even hear what she said (the engine noise, the fatigue ... we all know how hard it is to hear what they say on the plane, like when they mention food options ... very hard to hear). So the person just took the box that they were given and opened it; probably started to eat. A few minutes later the hostess realized SHE'd made a mistake and bullied the passenger in 17K. "It's Kosher! It's for Jewish people! Why did you tell me you had ordered a Kosher meal?!?!?!" When the passenger said he hadn't heard anything about a Kosher meal, she continued, shouting from two rows behind: "I asked you in Spanish and in English and you said yes!!!!! You said yes!!!!! Don't lie sir!!!!!! Don't lie!!!!!!!" Then the chief air hostess showed up — she was more on a passive-agressive approach, contrary to the Madrid-Lima one, who was a flat-out b****. She first made sure we all heard that the box had "21K" written on it — but somehow made it sound as if that was the passenger's fault for not having seen it, instead of her colleague's. She then proceeded to walk around with the box in her hands, covering her face and saying "OMG SO EMBARRASSING!!!! What am I gonna tell her! I will try to explain ... OMG so embarrassing!" to which her colleague kept responding "I asked him and he said Yes!!!!!". When the chief stewardess went to speak to the passenger in seat 21K, she made sure we heard her from many rows ahead/behind. I was three rows ahead and I heard the fuuuull explanation about how the passenger in 17K was basically an idiot. (I would argue this was the staff's fault and the passenger in 17K shouldn't be blamed, let alone bullied repeatedly, for everyone to hear). Now, in my Madrid-Brussels flight, half a dozen people were aggressively forced to check in our hand luggage (it was larger than what's allowed — but literally most hand luggage is too large than what's allowed these days) even tho it all fit inside, there was enough space and it was a completely unnecessary hassle for people travelling from the other side of the world. Again, the attitude of the staff was the issue here: not just firm or serious but full-on aggressive. Sad to see Air Europa staff being more rude than Ryanair's. It seems to be a widespread thing so it seems it's something the company doesn't care about. Shameful.

Filthy plains - Nasty personnel

We did fly with many companies last few years. Where most companies would like to give you a good experience and help you with a smile, it felt like Air Europa doesn't give a damn about you.

If you have a long flight, don't expect too much from it. We had a flight 11-12 hours flight and got 1 meal with it. Do you want more? You can buy it.

But that's not even that bad. The thing that struck me the most is that a lot of their crew members seem to be totally uncaring towards the passengers. With the exception of 1 crew members, they all had no smile on their face and definitely were not pleasant to talk to, sometimes even rude..

Even on the airport we had 2 encounters with Air Europa personnel where they were totally ridiculously blocking passages. Once at the baggage drop, where they blocked the exit, once right after security.

As I am disgusted with their dirty plains and nasty personnel, I strongly recommend against flying with Air Europa. They won't find me flying with them ever again.

Rude staff

I was 5 minutes late, already checked in with a boarding pass and 1 bag to check in. Air Europa were extremely rude and said that it is not their problem. This was the day of the train strikes in Amsterdam and they did not care. Numerous people were rebooking flights at the counter - great way for them to make more money. Rebooked a flight for later that same day, which was delayed by 1 hour. No care in fhe world!

Airline has been generally good but, not my first choice…

Airline has been generally good especially flying to latam with good price connections. Their business class is also typically quite good and some new aircraft seat set ups are nice and new. However..

Madrid is one of the worst airports to fly to and through. Did twice in the last week and regretted it. Both times the airbridge didn't work or it was late connecting to the plan, and we waited in the plane for some 30 mins to deboard. Unprepared and disorganised.

Also, on connecting flights you land on completely opposite sides of the terminal having to run from one gate to the other, a huge distance.

You always a delayed departure, literally always. Not a single time I departed on time, usually 30mins or more.

Lastly, while waiting on the plane doing nothing of course there is no internet. Mobile network signal is very very weak or in existent. In comparison, even in developing countries, such as Bogota airport, mobile network was available and strong. Not in third world Madrid. The WiFi given for business class customers on Air Europa is a joke, you pay 4,000$ for a flight but can only access WhatsApp messages, maybe.

Not great and not my first choice.

Scam

Made me pay 270 Euros for an oversized bag (which I have never had to pay) and then proceed to break it. Then they refuse to pay for the damage. Outrageous customer service.

In January5 Months, 5 Calls, 0 Support — Air Europa Suma Is a Waste of Time

In January, I flew an extremely long and expensive itinerary:
Madrid–Paris–Los Angeles–Papeete (with Air France) and then Papeete–Los Angeles–New York–Madrid (with Delta). I made sure to attach my Air Europa Suma number to the booking. Based on the route and distance, I should have earned around 28,000–30,000 miles — yet I only received 8,000.

Since February, I’ve called Air Europa five times. Each time, they say they’ve submitted a request for the missing miles (especially for the return Delta legs), and every time it gets denied without explanation. They never follow up, never take ownership, and I keep having to chase them.

It’s been nearly 5 months with no resolution, no compensation, and no accountability. If this is how they treat loyal flyers, I’m out. I’ll be switching my preference to Iberia, who at least have a functional loyalty program and decent customer service.

Air Europa has lost my trust — and my future bookings.

Total dissappointment

Total dissappointment. I was flying from GRU to MAD (via Salvador de Bahia) and it was bad. First flight from GRU-SSA was good, we were told it would delay a bit but we then left on time. The 2nd flight was to take off 5h after landing in Salvador but we were then informed the flight would be delayed for about 3h, then they said it would delay 7h. We were supposed to leave at 22h and left at 5:30am the next day and they still expected us to be checking in at the original time of departure. Total mess. No staff was there to tend to us or give meal vouchers or anything, they only showed when it was time for boarding, which was also late. No explanation, but I guessed it was delayed from Spain causw the flight that arrived 1h before boarding is the same we took.

No compensation and disgusting food. Air Europa is good for short european flights but intercontinental flights are not their forte.

buggy systems, rude staff, lots of money wasted

Website was broken, so had to call to book. The the first person I called failed entirely. The second person did the booking but did it wrong. I called back later after realising and wanting a refund. Only 20 minutes later but couldn't get through. Called back later and finally got through and they just said that the cooling off period law doesn't exist in spain so they won't do anything.

Rude and terrible service.

I had several problems

I had several problems.

I had business class flight. For some reason im not awarded miles etc on my flying blue account do the booking me on a wrong or not eligble class in the system. I do get rewards on economy flight.. strange. I submitted support request but im waiting for answer 2 weeks already :/

For a economy flight i purchased emergency exit seats. Cost $141,-. I selected 2 seats and with checkout the amount changed to 28.200. Only after a call of nearly 20 minutes with customer service i was able to buy the seats paying directly to customer service.

In general it seems like the digital experience is not strong. Flight itself are ok given the price for the ticket. Flight attendants didn’t speak English that well, it was annoying. On business class flight i got nematodes for breakfast / snack. What kind of food choice is that?

Seems they are flying with very new airplanes. That was a good experience.

Madrid lounge with roof terrace was nice and convenient.

So all in all okish airline but they have some stuff to improve.

I missed a connection flight due to a…

I missed a connection flight due to a delay of the first flight, technical issues, very scaring. I had to wait 8 hours in Barajas so I ate a burguer. Filling out the claims form, the currency field would showed error and went red. This is the way this awful airline makes money, ripping put the customer. And the worst part is they are not cheap for the disgusting quality they offer. That owner of it should be sued by God

Had to open the case with the Civil Aviation Authority

Had to open the case with the Civil Aviation Authority but eventually got my €600 compensation nearly two months later.
When I first claimed it (knowing it was owed by law) they got back saying they couldn't issue any compensation.

10am flight from London Gatwick to Madrid (and the Colombia) with 24h delay due to an issue with the aircraft. Air Europa did everything they could to NOT cancel the flight and assign us a new aircraft to avoid passenger's claims. Kept us "hostage" at the airport while the departure time kept being postponed until finally boarded the plane at 2am. Another issue with the very same airplane and we were eventually given a hotel room in Gatwick at 5:30am. Slept 2h as the new flight was not yet scheduled and ended up being at 11am.
IF YOU WERE ON THAT FLIGHT or in a similar situation MAKE SURE YOU GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS.
Shady, poorly managed situation, and ridiculous voucher value for subsistence while waiting at the airport.

The reason why I gave 1 star:

Why I gave 1 star:
• They charge full-service airline prices but deliver low-cost carrier quality.
• I paid £760 for a round trip from LGW to Argentina — not cheap — but the experience didn’t match the price.
• The cabin crew mostly spoke Spanish, and communication was difficult. It felt like they made no effort to accommodate non-Spanish speakers.
• After using the bathroom, I had to wait in the aisle because a crew member was blocking the corridor with the trolley. Another crew member was incredibly rude — didn’t speak English and seemed annoyed that I was standing there. She even pulled the curtain in my face. I had to explain I was just waiting for her colleague to move.
• It’s concerning that some crew can’t speak basic English. In case of emergency, this would be a serious safety issue for non-Spanish-speaking passengers.
• Food was disappointing: pasta was undercooked and the “breakfast” was just a small cake.
• No earphones provided, so you can’t watch anything unless you bring your own — again, low-cost airline vibes.
• You can’t choose your seat during check-in without paying extra. They assign one for you by default, even after charging premium fares.
• I was assigned a seat near the front where a child cried for most of the 11-hour flight. If I’d been allowed to choose, I would have picked a quieter spot in the back and actually gotten some rest.

Avoid Air Europa. Not worth the money.

Really bad experience when boarding to…

Really bad experience when boarding to fly from Madrid to Cordoba (Argentina). No places to sit, hundreds of people with no indication where to queue, the terminal was very hot and crowded, another flight to Lima was boarding just next to ours making the same chaos twice as bad. And on top of day out flight got delayed, fist 20 min then 30… and we’re still waiting. We’re all sweaty and tired already. Really bad experience and we haven’t even boarded the plane.

I was unneccessarily worried by poor reviews

I was worried by poor reviews. We recently travelled London-Madrid-Havana and back. The planes were new and clean. All flights left on time. The inflight service was excellent - friendly and responsive. The food in Economy was not great, but hot and tasty, with a decent glass of red wine. As good as any other budget airline. Check in was fast efficient and courteous. It was all around a good experience, and our experience bears no resemblance to the poor reviews on line.
