Shameful experience.

Shameful experience.
Today, April 18th, 2026.
Customers left stranded and lied to about their rights.

Terrible experience with Alamo at Frankfurt-Hahn. I had a confirmed reservation made 45 days ago and fully paid for a one-week rental. They sent a cancellation email while my flight was already in the air. After staying at the airport hotel and arriving at the counter at 8:00 AM, I was told they had zero cars available—not even a higher or lower category. Nothing.

I asked to be taken to another branch; they claimed that since it was Saturday, branches closed at 12:00 PM and it "made no sense." I then requested a transfer to Frankfurt Airport (FRA) to get a car there, but they lied again, claiming there were no cars available there either. Furthermore, they refused to provide a formal complaint form or any written proof of their lack of availability, falsely claiming I had "no rights" because the contract hadn't started yet since no keys were handed over. This is a complete lie intended to avoid legal liability for breach of contract.

I was forced to make an emergency booking with another company, paying €623 for the only car they had left—nearly triple my original price. Do not book here unless you want to be left stranded at the airport.

We rented a 15 passenger van

We rented a 15 passenger van. I spoke with a manager from Alamo one week prior to our rental date, sent them our insurance policy and answered all of their questions. The day we were supposed to leave for our road trip we arrive at the counter and were told we could not rent the van because our policy did not have renters insurance. This was extremely frustrating because I explained to them I had sent them my entire policy a week before and why did no one pick up on this before so that I could have called and taken care of this before my trip. Luckily another counter, Budget, had a van and we were able to rent from them. never dealing with his company EVER AGAIN!!!

This is a fraud company.

I have never tried anything like this. This company is withholding my deposit illegally. My car battery went out and they with no documentation keep my deposit and will not offer the reports promiser. Never use them. Never. They lie about procedures, hang up when you need help. I now have to take the legal battle. This is a fraud company.

I rented a car through Booking.Com to drive in Thailand I paid a deposit of £100. I was informed that it would take between 2 weeks to a month to receive it. It has now been over a month and it is still not here. Do not rent from this company they bank on you forgetting about it or just refuse it when you complain about not having it.

I’ve never been so annoyed.

You always have such nice ads.

And then that slogan, “Drive Happy and Save”!

That’s ridiculous. This was my first time renting a car from ALAMO, and I’ve never been so annoyed.

The service at Cologne Airport is an outrage. I already paid through Check 24, and now I’m supposed to pay another €330 for 6 days???

And that’s supposed to make me happy???

Their chat-based customer service is useless, so my only option is legal action. I’m going to take this rip-off to court!

Now I’m totally happy.......

Never again, ALAMO!!!

Avoid this company

Avoid this company – card issues and potential scam. LAX airport.
I booked a car through Discover Cars, but when I arrived, the staff refused to accept my credit card from Lithuania, claiming it wasn't valid. Interestingly, another rental company nearby accepted the exact same card without any issues. It felt like a classic "worker scam" to force me into buying extra insurance or higher rates. Be very careful and have a backup plan if you choose to rent here. Extremely disappointed with the service.

I got damage and collision insurance with generali and provided insurance policy and I received a very small dent and instead of contacting the insurance that covers the damages or waiting for the claim I submitted to help pay them, they instead charge me immediately with full overpriced damage on a small dent that is literally covered by my insurance. Never rent from Alamo

Alamo Car Rental Tampa

Absolutely superb. I found that car rental through Alamo was more expensive than other "off airport" car hire providers, but these guys were excellent and they deserve the positive feedback that I am leaving. I had prebooked everything before travelling, when I arrived at their office, there was no queuing, staff were friendly and attentive wanting to help. There was no hard upgrade sale or pressure to add anything extra - which I am always fearful of (having played this game many times in Europe). The credit card deposit was only very low. We were given a selection cars to choose from, all well maintained and pretty much brand new. This was a hassle free experience - and how I would have wanted everything to go. I have no problem whatsoever with recommending Alamo Car Hire in Tampa Airport Florida - they are excellent.

PLEASE AVOID!

PLEASE, PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE BOOKING WITH THESE MODERN DAY THIEVES!

I am incredibly disappointed with my experience. We were wrongly charged for vehicle damages that were already present when we picked up the car on 8th March 2026. Despite us providing clear, timestamped video with metadata and photographic evidence proving the damage existed prior to our rental, the company has completely ignored our dispute and simply taken a large amount of money (£730) without any communication or reply and it's now been over three weeks. Zero.

Their own checkout report was poorly documented with no supporting photos, yet they are holding us liable for pre-existing issues.

I beg you, avoid this company at all costs or consider walking. Their customer service is non-existent and their billing practices are completely unjust.

Really bad experience.

Really bad experience - Budapest Airport.

I booked with Alamo through Ctrip, where the cross-border permit to Italy was agreed at €55. But when I collected the car, the staff asked for €420.

The male staff member (slightly big-sized) was very rude, unprofessional and unethical. Even after the Ctrip agent tried to intervene via phone calls, he refused to cooperate.

Because I was tired from jet lag and my child was exhausted, I was ready to pay €420 just to move on. But before I could confirm, he tore up my booking form and rudely said, “You are not getting your car today.”

I don’t mind paying €420—if the staff could simply show some respect and courtesy, I would have moved on.

In the end, I went to another company next door, AXIS. The staff from AXIS were much more friendly and helpful.

I will never rent from Alamo, nor any companies associated like National or Enterprise.

SCAM PLEASE AVOID

Complete scam. Would avoid at all costs.

We did not read the reviews before using, please trust what you are reading and AVOID this company.

They charged us extra hidden fees on arrival and labeled them as random charges on the invoice so it seemed reasonable.

Tried to charge us twice for being young u25 drivers through an ‘upsell’ on the invoice.

They then refused to check over the car upon immediate arrival and didn’t inspect until 2 hours later. Then claimed damage of the vehicle (when we had images to dispute) and we asked not to be charged until we came to a conclusion - they charged the card anyway.

Horrible customer service and horrible company to deal with. Blatant scammers. Avoid.

Booking ref. GVAT72-185***

Really good service, car was upgraded, clean, nearly new. Previous damage was already noted on the hire agreement and a return condition report quickly arrived.

Check in was a bit slow due to someone wanting to tell the Alamo staff his life story and the staff politely engaging.
If this review ever gets read by anyone at Alamo/enterprise etc…. Please remember that everyone in the que has something important to be getting to. For me that day I was off so see my dog for the final time. I missed him by 40 mins. The 10 mins listening to said guy talking utter rubbish resulted in a polite tap on the shoulder and being told to shut up. The staff member who ended up serving me ‘read the room’ and got me sorted very quickly. I wish I noted his name.

Regardless of the above Alamo have been faultless.

Confirmed reservation meant nothing — I got left stranded

If I could leave less than a star, I would

I prepaid for a rental car and showed up at the Alamo counter at Atlanta airport on March 7 expecting to pick up my vehicle. Instead, I was told there were no cars available and that they could not honor my reservation.

This was during a major travel disruption, but that doesn’t excuse taking someone’s money and providing nothing in return. A “reservation” clearly means nothing if you can simply show up and be turned away with no solution, no backup plan, and no accountability.

I was left stranded at the airport after paying in advance, with no assistance or effort to make it right. That is unacceptable for a company of this size.

I will not be using Alamo again.

Made reservatio two weeks in advance - no car!

Made reservatio two weeks in advance. When arrived ar airport to pick up the reserved car, I was informed that car is not available. No decent alternatives were provided, i. e. having four persons, two golf bags and three luggage peaces, I was offered small SUV (instead of reserved Seat Alhambra) while agreeing that we will not fit!!

We had to go to another rent company because Alamo simply failed snd even did not apologise.

Awful post hire experience

Awful post hire experience. They overcharged my debit card, and I have spent months trying to get a refund they confirmed I was due. Their customer service team just say they will ‘escalate it’ and that ‘I should hear back within 48 hours’ after 3 separate phone calls I still haven’t heard from them. They have ignored emails and I feel that they will continue to do so to try and avoid paying me back. I will likely need to escalate with the European Car Rental Conciliation Service to try and get my money back.

Worst company you could hire a car…

Worst company you could hire a car from, they charged me alot of money after I had dropped the car back to them as they claimed i had put 3 marks on the car. Two of which were 2mm spot dents from a pebble bouncing back. Usual wear and tear. I hardly drove the car on my holiday onky to get to my accommodation and back. I had photographic evidence of the damage on the car from when I collected it at the airport the first evening which had previously been damaged before I even sat into the car. Do yourself a favour and stay far away from this car hire company

Alamo is the worst rent a car company.

Alamo is the worst rent a car company.
I detected extra $75 for going out from their car parking building.
I know it 2 month later.
Seattle branch explained no ticket or something for going out.
However car parking required me ticket.
I got angry that Alamo ignore my message.
I can’t recommend such rent a car.

I hired a Car ( Full size SUV) at Miami…

I hired a Car ( Full size SUV) at Miami International Airport in early March , Two days later one of the wheels was loosing air, I pumped it up and again it lost Air Pressure. I went into Alamo in West Palm Beach Airport and the staff there where going to change the car but they didn't have a full size available , but did tell me to go to Enterprise rent a car in Boca Raton as its the same company .
There I met the most customer friendly staff, in particular a sales agent called Scotty who really went out of his way to help me. He was polite , helpful , and understanding , and solved the problem , full size cars where limited as it was the middle of Spring Break , but Scotty came through for me , I'll be sticking with this company from now on.
