Extremely poor service from Alamo

Have been trying to get in contact with Alamo car hire regarding the car that I have on hire with them currently. I now cannot use the car as the car was provided with faulty windshield wipers, which is the reason I cannot use the car. Where I am it is snowing and cannot see to drive

Only gave a 1, deserves a rating of -5

Only gave a 1, because there wasn't anything lower. I reserved the car thru Expedia and their print out to me says "Additional charges or restrictions may apply for drivers under 25" On arrival, they refused my reservation because I was over 75. That's it, nothing else. I have a perfect driving record-no tickets or accidents. A credit score in the 800s. That is simply age discrimination. Maybe their needs to be a class action suit?

A terrible experience

A terrible experience. I would never recommend them; they don't even deserve a single star. Even though I had no accidents or incidents that could have caused any scratches, they charged me over €2,300 for a tiny scratch on the bumper that likely occurred before or after my rental.

This scratch is so small it’s almost invisible to the naked eye, yet they billed me this astronomical amount. Charging the price of a small car for a minor scratch on a plastic bumper—what do you call this? It's a total scam! To make matters worse, they blocked my email address so that I couldn't reach out to contest it. Their understanding of customer satisfaction is zero. Stay away at all costs.

Alamo Muscat Oman

I rented a car in Muscat, Oman. It was very dirty. Before returning the car, I washed it at a car wash. I returned it clean and without any damage. Now I have been waiting for two months for my deposit to be refunded. No one from Alamo wants to help me with this issue. I do not recommend using this company!!!

Do not rent in Vigo-Guixar train station

These are a bunch of con artists. Not only did I get a very unreliable Jeep (supposed to be an upgrade but definitely not) but they also do not answer your calls if you have problems returning the car. After reassurance when I arrived back in Vigo that I would not be charged extra, I was charged €60 extra for being an hour late. These folks, particularly Paula are a bunch of liars. Never again.

No response regarding lost goods & unauthorised withdrawal

I left my bag of shoes in one of the vans, and despite a few emails to them regarding this issue, I have received no response. I chatted with them online, but to no avail. My wife talked with someone on the phone and was told someone would email me. It's been 4 days now, and still no response whatsoever. I will edit my review once this issue is resolved.

With the above being said, the following remarks are part of my edited review:
It's been over a week now, and Alamo (Brisbane) hasn't replied, so I'm back to edit my review as I previously stated. Two days ago, Alamo took funds out of my account without any explanation, even though everything was paid. I replied to them by email regarding this issue and the previous one, but again, no response. I wouldn't be surprised if the former was due to the negative review I did a week ago (first paragraph). What is clear is that they don't often respond to queries, yet they are so quick to take money out of people's accounts. I'm not impressed overall.

Amazing experience with Alamo León (Spain)! 😊
Ricard and the whole team were absolutely wonderful—super kind, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. From the moment I arrived, everything was easy, smooth, and stress-free. You can really feel that they care about their customers.
Thank you for such great service—I’ll definitely be renting with you again!

Crash recovery is the worst. Rent somewhere else

I´m not rating 1 star because staff in Dublin Airport´s counter was nice and helpful.

I had a minor crash due to ice on the road during rental period, and got a small crack in the front bumper and the plastic cover of the wheelarch got semi-detached.

Report reads: "Damage Description: Front Bumper : Crack-psf bumper and wheel arch"

I was OK with paying the 2700€ Damage Excess, as I was told later on I would get back the amount Alamo didn´t spend in repairing the car.

Well, I´m getting back 130€ because they appear to have bought a new car or something.

I´ve been charged:
- over 1700€ for two plastics. It seems spares are really expensive in Ireland.
- over 400€ for 17 days of "loss of use" for changing two plastics. It seems people really take their time to do stuff in Ireland.
- over 300€ in diminution in value (!?)

Do yourself a favor, pay a little more and rent in a better company (add full insurance, not like me, I´m a moron). I´ve rented a lot in local companies that had pristine cars, unlike the one I got from them. As it was a cheap rental, I´m not making a fuss about it.

Excellent car rental in Phoenix

Just finished a two week rental with Alamo in Phoenix Az.
Their processes for pick up and return were excellent.
Very friendly, knowledgeable and engaged customer reps and very efficient.
We had a Chevy Trailblazer that was clean and worked perfectly.

SCAM!

SCAM! Very rude.
We booked the car online as usual — just like we have done many times all over the world using the same credit card. We were suddenly asked to pay an additional 130% of the original price, allegedly for extra insurance and a full tank of fuel that would not be refunded, and because the employee refused to accept our credit card.
We had no choice but to accept this scam, as we urgently needed the car. The employee was not helpful at all, showed no understanding for our confusion, and did not properly explain the charges.

This is not our first time renting a car, so we know how the process normally works.
Be careful! We strongly do not recommend this company.

NIGHTMARE in ALAMO

NIGHTMARE in ALAMO - A few months ago, we went late at night to the airport to pick up a rental car from Alamo. We arrived using another rental car from a different company, simply to make sure the reservation was properly registered, even in the middle of the night, so we wouldn’t end up without a car.

When we entered the parking area, it was extremely crowded. I didn’t get out of the car or join the line and decided to leave immediately, using the exact same exit as the entrance. Suddenly, without any warning, a ground spike barrier was activated and instantly destroyed both front tires of my car.

We parked inside the lot and asked for help. The security staff were fairly polite but clearly overwhelmed. Shortly after, an Alamo manager arrived — his name was Charlie — and from that moment on, the situation became a nightmare.

He was immediately extremely aggressive, with an attitude and way of speaking that were completely over the top, honestly giving the impression that he might have been under the influence of something. He forced me to call my insurance company to get the car out, but my phone plan didn’t allow phone calls. I asked him if I could use his phone — he refused. I then asked a nearby customer, who agreed to help, but he became angry and forbade her from doing so. Even the girl working for Alamo at the desk who was in front of me was schocked by his attitude and was looking at me telling with the eyes, i'm so sorry for him and cannot help you as he is above any control

He then forced me to pay for my Alamo reservation. At that point, I thought he finally understood our situation, as we were completely stuck in the middle of the night with no solution. But the moment my card was charged, his behavior became even worse.

When I asked for the keys to the car I had just paid for, he shockingly told me — while physically pushing me out of the terminal with two security guards — that my payment was lost and that I was permanently blacklisted from Alamo. No explanation whatsoever. He repeatedly threatened to call the police, shouting aggressively.

We were kicked out of the terminal and forced to leave the parking area with the car and its two flat tires. We had to abandon the vehicle just outside the airport grounds in the middle of the night, then walk over 30 minutes to reach the terminal of the other rental company we had used earlier, hoping they could help us.

This situation is completely unacceptable. This manager, Charlie, should absolutely not be in this position. Such aggression and disrespect are shocking, and I have never experienced anything like this in my life. A message to Alamo’s management: this person must be held accountable. Acting this way is simply unthinkable — especially if this behavior was influenced by any substance. One advice, check which of your agent confirmed the booking and collect the payment that night with me - she saw all of it - she will be able to explain it in details. Do not hesitate to contact me i will be very happy to give you more details as this manager Charlie brought me nightmares during few weeks.

I booked a rental car with Alamo Rent UAE

I booked a rental car with Alamo Rent A Car in Dubai via Check24 and paid more than EUR 400 in advance.

Upon arrival at Dubai International Airport, I was suddenly told that my credit card had to be valid for at least six more months. This requirement was never disclosed beforehand — not in the booking confirmation, not in the terms and conditions, and not during payment. My credit card was still valid, and I even explained that a replacement card had already been issued. Nevertheless, the vehicle was refused.

When I asked the Alamo staff member to cancel the booking so I could recover my money, I was told to handle the cancellation myself — fully aware that this would most likely result in no refund at all.

After contacting Check24, I was informed that I would receive only 50% of the amount back, with Check24 covering half of that and Alamo supposedly covering the other half. In other words, I was expected to simply accept losing a significant amount of money for a service that was never provided — essentially being treated as if I should just “sit on the loss” as a consumer.

This approach is unacceptable. I paid in full, complied with all disclosed requirements, and was denied the service due to an undisclosed rule introduced only at the counter.

This was one of the worst rental car experiences I have ever had and will certainly be my last booking with Alamo. Given this experience and the many mixed reviews already visible here, I strongly advise avoiding airport car rental companies in Dubai altogether.

I will never rent a car from Alamo again.

This review is Alamo Rent A Car (Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Guyana) for Alamo…

This review is specifically for Alamo Rent A Car at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (Guyana), which is operated locally by Massy Motors.

I chose Alamo for convenience and brand reliability, but this turned out to be one of the worst rental experiences I’ve had.

I purchased the maximum insurance coverage offered, only to find out that tires and windshield are not covered, with no option to purchase additional protection. This is especially problematic given the road conditions in Guyana, where incidental tire damage can occur without negligence or abuse.

I returned the vehicle with no known issues. The day after returning the car, I was contacted and told there was tire damage and that I would be charged $250 USD for a replacement. I was unaware of any damage and had no accidents during the rental.

When I contacted management, Meletia, the manager, took a strict, inflexible, and uncompromising approach. While professional in tone, there was no willingness to review the circumstances, exercise discretion, or offer any goodwill. I explained that I travel to Guyana several times a year and wanted to maintain a long-term rental relationship. I requested either some flexibility in the charge, or, if that wasn’t possible, a goodwill credit or discount on a future rental. Neither option was considered.

I found the charge shocking, as a similar tire on a comparable vehicle would cost far less in the United States. I also contacted several local rental agencies near the airport, all of whom confirmed that $250 USD is unusually high for a tire replacement in Guyana. These same agencies also offer wheel and windshield coverage for a small additional cost — something Alamo/Enterprise does not offer at this location.

Had more than one tire been affected, the charges could have easily reached $1,000 USD, with no coverage available.

Based on this experience, I do not recommend renting from Alamo/Enterprise at Cheddi Jagan International Airport. Travelers should strongly consider local Guyanese rental companies, confirm wheel and windshield coverage, and ask detailed questions before booking.

I will not be renting from this location again, and I will be advising my family members to do the same.

DO NOT BOOK! SCAMMERS!

DO NOT BOOK! THEY DO NOT REFUND THE MONEY WHEN THEY DO NOT PROVIDE THE SERVICE. SCAMMERS! MENTION: I have a Revolut CREDIT CARD, had previously PAID FOR DRIVING INSURANCE AS WELL! they are scamming and refusing to confirm officially that they will refund me 600$ which I paid to Alamo in advance and then at the counter say that my card is not accepted. also that they don t have the time to send me a confirmation email for the payment, plus that they say they don t know how many days it takes to refund whilst I already paid 600$. very unpleasant situation on behalf of the woman manager in the inglewood pick up station. There is NOWHERE stated that REVOLUT card is not accepted as well as I don t understand why it was accepted for payment in the first place. You ask me to call and solve when I was left alone in the night by your low manager and woman who absolutely did not empathize and EITHER she was able to tell me where on website or during payment checkout there was info that I cannot pick up with my Revolut physical card!! I also offered to provide a US card details also refused. She said she doesn t have time to send me confirmation that I will get my money back! I am on holiday with almost 700$ blocked because I trusted this scamming and offensive company!
