A wonderful experience on the AmaDante to Paris & Normany

I've just returned from the Paris & Normandy cruise on the AmaDante. I cannot speak highly enough of the experience. I was met at Paris CDG Airport by an Ama Rep and the taxi driver, who took me and 1 other person to the ship. My Stateroom was spacious, clean, comfortable, the bed was very comfy, the shower room was a good size with a very efficient shower. I had a French Balcony so it was lovely to sit beside the open doors whenever I wanted some down time.
I have some very awkward food intolerances, which the Kitchen staff handled with sensitivity and care. The Maitre D (Yanko) was extremely helpful to accommodate my dietary requirements. I met with him at breakfast each morning and we went through the menu for the day, choosing appropriate options or he was able to suggest modifications where necessary.
The lounge area and sundeck were spacious and spotlessly clean.
The excursions were very well thought out and organised. The day excursion to the Normandy Beaches, museums and British/Canadian cemeteries was a very sobering and emotional experience, very tastefully done and with plenty of time given so that we were not rushed. The evening's entertainment was a brilliant Andrews Sisters tribute group, which was completely appropriate.
Other excursions included were a day in Rouen with a guided tour and plenty of free time, a visit to Giverny (Monet's Garden), some Chateaux, a bateaux tour of the main Paris sights etc., and we ended the week with a special view of the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty being lit up at night, which was a very fitting way to end the cruise.
Transfers to and from the airport/ship were well organised.
My only complaint was that the air conditioning on the ship was constantly too cold, although of course I could control the AC in my Stateroom to my desired temperature.
The ship's Crew were all extremely friendly and helpful, always with a smile on their faces and nothing was too much trouble.
The Tour Manager (Tita), was extremely pleasant and helpful.
In conclusion, I have given 4 stars (1 deducted because of the temperature of the aircon), and would highly recommend this cruise line and this particular cruise.

Not a good experience of a 5* river cruising company

Cruise in general was very good
On last day issue no water not able to shower or brush teeth!! Had to vacate cabin at 0900 Water came back on at 1300 asked if we could use empty cabin to shower and brush teeth
Told in no uncertain terms “NO”
Certainly not a 5* caring cruising company. Will certainly not travel with them again

Uncaring and untrained staff

I took my husband on a river cruise as it looked like a perfect holiday as he has Parkinsons disease. So everything included....no driving no decisions to make for me. It started badly. The first flight was cancelled the second delayed. We arrive at ship at 21.45. I had phoned travel agent so they lnew we would be late and indeed a taxi awaited us at Lyon airport. We discussed how hungry we were with the other couple on the same tour as we hadn't eaten since 12.30 at Heathrow.....but never mind the ship had excellent reputation for food...!
When we arrived we were greater with. You're late....nobody told us. ....mmm who sent the taxi then? Don't you do a head count? The Purser told us the restaurant was closed...no they hadn't saved any food for us! Tough! After 10 minutes or so someone turned up with a plate of cold chips and roast beef! No champagne reception then?
The good in the restaurant was very good but some of the staff have little knowledge of serving table. At one point stood over my husband who was eating, telling him his main course was ready! 5 Star...I don't think so. Finally. We had 3 glorious days in the Hyatt Regency in Nice. Super. But why were we told we had to get into a taxi and 7am when the flight was at 11.40 and the airport is just 10 minutes drive? We had to sit in the airport with our cases for over 2 hours before we could check in.
We had a lovely handwritten postcard today from AmaWaterways saying how lovely it was to have us on board and hoping to see us again. No thank you! I certainly won't be using them again. Why 3 stars? The excursions were very good...the chefs table excellent. The Head Waitress excellent....but many of the staff were sullen and untrained. I have written to complain...but no response.
