Strongly recommend to not rent a car from AvantCar. Fixed penalty charges with no evidence, and an unsafe child restraint offered without concern. Would not rent here again.

Biggest scam company

Rented a car through avantcar. At the desk a worker demanded and twisted the rules. He said that “credit cards” meant mastercard and not visa dancard. In english and every other language a credit card is not specified, its just an overall description.

And because of that he said that he couldnt accept the visa dancard. It said no- where beforehand that they do not accept visa dancards. It just said to remeber a “credit card” We have rented plenty of cars in the past where the card was not a problem.

So he said to us because we had visa dancard he could only give us the car by signing an insurance for 20 euros per day. We ended up paying 100 euros for insurance. And then the visa dancard magically was accepted. When i wrote to travellink about it they said that it was an offer we accepted. Sorry but this was not an offer. This was either you buy the insurance or you get no car. When we landed from the flight the time was about 02 at night so this was the only option for us.

I paid for the car beforehand through travellink but when we arrived at the desk they didnt want to give us the key before we paid for insurance.

Big scam!

Big scam!
A dented and scratched car from the begining. I took photos of it in pitch black dark of all the scratches i could find. And still by the return they walked straight to the front bumper and reached under and said, do you have a photo of this damage? They never checked anything else! They knew the scratch was there! 466€ did that scam company cost me!

Warning!!

Warning!!! Totally scam!! We picked up our car at night when it was dark and were trying to take photos of all the damages. We drove the car from the airport to the hotel and back and it is impossible that we got a damage during this route. When we returned the car the staff did an inspection and charged us 500 euro for a damage under the bumper.

Very dodgy company. Don’t use them

I booked online and paid extra to ensure no excess in the event of a claim.

When I got to avantcar, they demanded a hold on my card of €1400 and an additional €70 because I was planning to cross the border.

Bear in mind that I paid extra for a full policy with AXA in case anything happened.

I let them take the hold, but immediately looked at reviews and cancelled on the spot. No sign of the €1400 back on my card and no email to confirm the cancellation.

Just got a confirmation of my payments 15 minutes after I walked out in disgust.

Don’t use them. Sixt (next door) are no better from what I can tell.

Avantcar, my first and last experience.

Rented a Car for our stay in Croatia, picked up the car around 21:30 in a dark parking lot outside the airport.
Went thru the outside of the car for any pre existing damages, and the person from Avantcar that was with my showed a scratch on one of the mirrors and one of the doors.
The inspektion was very hard to do due to the lack of light at the spot for the pickup.
Almost like it was choosen for that particular reason.
There was no way to do a proper inspection of the car, even less under the car.

We used the car for a couple of days and returned it early 04:30 on sunday. Not long after the car was returned i got an e-mail stated that i have caused damage to the front bumper and Avantcar was going to charge 634,20 euro from my card.
I have been nowhere near a curb on anything else that could cause that little scratch that they found under the car. But since i had no way of confirming that this is not a "damage" that was pre existing Avantcar show no interest in resolving this.
If i just had done some research before i rented the car i would have stayed as far way from this company as possible since this aint the first time damages like this apperars when the car been returned.
So dont do the same misstake as i did, go for another car rental company

Avoid

Avoid! They charged me 650 euros for a tiny scratch they aren't (by their admission) even going to fix!
Their agent is spinning lies about our communication, and their management is making no attempt to resolve our dispute.
Never again; they're the worst rental company I ever dealt with.

This company is a scam

This company is a scam. I returned the car in perfect condition at 5am but their office only opens at 7am, which means that I have to take full responsibility of the car during the hours between 5 and 7am. I trusted them but here is what they did: they claimed that there was a damage to the bumper of the car, took three armature photos, and charged me 1,700 Euros. It was clear that the bumper was taken down by hands and then pushed back after the photos were taken. They pulled it down purely to show me as the evidence to charge me ridiculous amount of money. They have taken advantage of my vulnerability where I had to return the car at 5am when their office was closed. Shame on you, Avant Car. Avoid them! The company is a SCAM!!

FUYEZ !

FUYEZ !
Don’t ever rent or engage with this SCAMMERS company.

They are definitely scammers as you could think doesn’t exist anymore in 2024. Unfortunately it does.
Reservation made with booking for like 150 bucks.
1. The guy at the counter is kind as a prison door.
2. Rent vehicle A and they give you vehicle B that is not even of them same brand…
3. Force you to pay a « care free package and prepaid tank » for a total of more than 300 buck. If you do not comply they basically cancel your reservation at your full expense. Keep in mind that the full reservation cost was about 150 bucks for 10 days that is now more than 450. (They justify this by the fact that the contract indicate credit card required and most of people have only debit card, you come with a black card but is not enough, they play on the « credit card » translation.) To end on this point they tell you it’s the same with other company but it’s a LIE as the renown international company around them DOES TAKE DEBIT CARD.
4. You could think that having charged you like that they would agree to let you keep the car a few more hours without being scammed again on the day you supposed to leave the car, but no, you should pay around 50 bucks for half a day when 150 was for ten days originally !!!

To conclude i just want to add that I’ve made a lot of car renting around the world and never had this type of credit card problem, in fact most company manage to hold money on your debit and don’t need credit, that why it’s a big scam.
Take care as I think that 5 stars comments are probably bought comments, in fact most people landing on the same plane as us had the same problem with them and preferred to change car rental.

Terrible experience. To be avoided at all cost

Terrible experience.
Unpleasant and insulting staff on return.
Never seen anything like it in my life. The worst car rental agency and the worst experience.
Not only was the car not clean, but they tried to hold back my deposit by identifying scratches that were almost invisible to the eye and that were probably already there when I left, but you would have needed a very high definition camera to see them.
Dishonest, unpleasant and aggressive agency.
To be avoided at all costs.

Wish I’d read the reviews first

Wish I’d read the reviews first, just returned a hire car . A slight scratch on the wheel trim which might well of already been there as it was so barely noticable.
I was then charged 500 euros plus 100 euro handling fee for the ‘ damage’. Had my pants well and truly pulled down at least dick Turpin wore a mask as they say.
Worst hire company I’ve ever dealt with. Use at your own risk

I suggest - avoid. Or buy extra damage cover.

AFTER i booked the car, i checked their score on Trust Pilot. Poor... first warning. To avoid potential issues i took an extra damage cover ( extra 120 euro to rental price ). Car collected during a night. Parking with no lights, i can't check car body condition, car cover with dust. The Avantcar employee took all my data, credit card.. etc. explain where to find the car and that's it. He said the car was checked, i get my raport over email. 2 days later i checked this report, the car had many more dents on the body than in the report ( at this moment i was happy i took an extra coverage ). The car itself was fine. When i return the car, other Avantcar employee took a look at car condition. Oh - big dent on the left car fender - we need to charge You for this one. 1 - it was here before, 2 - i don't think so.
- Have You took an extra cover damage?
- Yes.
- oh, ok. ( at this moment she took some kind of ruler witch circles to assess the dent size ). Oh, below 2cm - we don't care about dents this size, no worries ( 20 seconds ago she said something different ).
- BTW, because we're talking about dents - on the roof there are like 5 big dents - there's nothing about it in You report.
She took a look at her paperwork
- we don't have any any dent's on the roof - probably they're too small.
Really? Just take look at them...
In the same time there were few already marked dent's at the report - much smaller the one "i had ".
Next example: Marked alloy wheel damage. Somebody just ignored fact the wheel rubber on the side was damaged as well ( i noticed it last day. Scary sh*** ).
Conclusion: I think it's one this companies who rent car cheap, and then they earn on selling extra damage cover, or on damage fix excess. Avoid.

Avoid! Avoid!Avoid!

I returned my hire car. Unknown to me there was a scratch on my front passenger door. No longer than 15mm. I was charged 590 euros for a complete new door!!! This is obviously a scam to increase their profits. Staff must be on kick backs. I advised all potential renters to avoid dealing with this company.

I have been driving and renting cars…

I have been driving and renting cars every summer for 30+ years and Avantcar has been the worst experience of a lifetime.
When we first arrived in Split, coming from Amsterdam on July 24, I went to pick up the car, a Fiat Panda. The Avantcar employee checked the car for damages, and mentioned all the little scratches the car had, he also mentioned that the people before us had done some damage under the bumper. I took his word for it and I did not bend down to the ground to look under the car. (Who does?)
We went off with the car on July 24 and we brought it back as agreed on July 31. I brought the car back as I had received it, and with a full tank. The car had been cared for very well, since the apartment we had rented had a garage.
Another employee, also from Avantcar, starts checking the car and he says that he can feel a scratch under the bumper of the car, the same front bumper that, at the time of pick up on the 24th, the first employee had mentioned had been damaged. Now, I had not seen the damage the fist time, as it was located on the plastic bumper but completely under the car. I told the employee that his colleague had mentioned that damage to me and it was already there when I picked up the car. He said that that had been a 'different' scratch and that I should have taken photos of the entire car when I picked it up on the 24th, including photographing under the car. In other words, I should not have trusted Avantcar employees at all. Who ever takes photos of the under part of a car? I have never heard of such a thing and at almost 60 years old I am not going to go under a car to take photos.
To make a long story short, he charged me 466.31 EUR in damages for a little scratch on the plastic bumper, invisible to the eye because UNDER the car, and more importantly, a damage that in no way was my responsibility since we had no accidents and took very good care of the car. I said that this was not my damage and the employee said not to worry too much because I would get the money back from the insurance anyway. Well, sounds like an insurance scam to me, since we HAD NO ACCIDENTS.
Since the insurance I took had a deductible, I will have to pay a good part of that cost out of my own pocket.
After this happened, I googled the company Avantcar and there are other complaints of people who, just like me, were charged hundreds of dollars or pounds or Euros for some damage under the cars. If you are trying to scam insurance companies, do not do it at the customer’s expense. I only paid because we were going to be late for our flight. If I had had more time I would have called the police and denounced them.
They make up damages and charge people these ridiculous fees. I know for a fact we had no accident. And since the scratch is UNDER the car, there is no way that another car would have done that while the car was parked near the beach during the day.
Horrible, do not trust them.

Beware....Avant car hire are not to be trusted

Beware....they are not to be trusted! When we collected the car from their Split centre office they refused to give us a print out of the cars damages. I asked 5 times to enable us to ensure all the damages were noted. She said I am emailing it to you later, I said but if you have not noted everything we have seen you could say the damage was done after the pick up. Still she refused and just looked at me and said i am emailing it. When we returned the car they asked my husband to move the car but as he turned the car he went over the kerb but did not scrape the tyre. They started speaking in Croatian and after a few minutes said he damaged the hub cap. We asked to see the photo of the tyre they took when we picked the car up as we saw a slight scrape but very conveniently they no longer had the photo...we insisted the photo was taken as we 100% remember the girl coming back to take the photo because we asked her. We were charged £600 for a rusty mark which could not have appeared in a minute! I checked at the airport with other car rentals and they all give a printout of the marked damages on the car. I should have known they are a dodgy firm when they would not even show me the photo on their computer. We also should have taken our own photos but the girl kept saying don't worry this is a new car with small knocks I am taking photos! Don't use this firm because their rental is cheap...if you add on their covers it adds another £100 to £150. Ruined our holiday and we are still worried they will not return our deposit.

Disgusting car rental company

Disgusting car rental company. Don't ever use their renting services.
They expect you to pay 1200 EUR deposit and if you say that it's too much - they will be ,,offering'' you to pay 20 EUR for each day of the rental to get rid of that insanely big deposit. The deposit is literally larger than the car is worth.
The customer does not give a damn about you. NOT recommended.
