Won't Buy From Back Market Again
Ordered a refurb Pixel 7a phone. Seemed nice enough. Ordered it in December 25 now in May of 26 (5 months later), I was working out and accidentally set a dumbbell down on the phone. The screen didn't crack or break but went black and stopped working. Apparently the OLED underneath which is a thin piece cracked due to the mild flexing of the screen. Well, when I was looking into replacing the screen and reading about how difficult it is to remove because of the seal the factory glue provides I just put muy nail on the edge and low and behold my nail was able to slip between the edge of the screen that meets the edge of the phone. Meaning, this was a pi$$ poor cheap screen refurb that some high volume refurb company did. There is NO WAY you should be able to slip your fingernail between the screen and phone and remove the screen doing that alone. TRY IT. The only way that happens is poor quality refurbishes which is what Back Market apparently deals in. Won't do business with them again. BTW, if you do the fingernail test and this happens to you, you know what you've got there in your hands now. You're welcome.

Back Market cares more about the bottomline than true customer care. I came to Back Market after hearing good reviews from some peers. I purchased a phone with plans to sell our old phone. Received a phone which arrived quickly. Then...I waited 5 days for the package to arrive to return the old phone. Back Market did not pay enough postage when they shipped the return kit to me, so I had to visit the post office and was required to pay $7.86 to even find out what was in the unlabeled yellow envelope to discover this was the return kit. I contacted Back Market assuming this must have been a mistake. Here is a part of their reply, "The yellow envelope you received with the kit was sent to you as regular mail, and any extra USPS postage charged to release that envelope at the post office is not covered or reimbursable under our trade-in conditions." They are all about company care, not customer care!!
Update: BackMarket asked me to "Please open a claim through your Back Market account by going to "My Orders" → "Ask for help". This is what I did the first time...and none of the results were helpful

It's a really nice Glaaxy S20, but it was advertised as unlocked and it's totally locked. Now I'm having to play phone tag with my provider and the other provider toeven figure out if I can unlock it or if I have to return it.

I’ve purchased a few items from back market , 6 iPhones, 3 iMac computers,2 ipads,a Mac mini,headphones,key boards ,and a few others and I paid a fraction of what it would have been for new , but when I got all this stuff it was NEW , everyone says the same thing ,I know that everything that I purchased was taken care of by those refurbishes and they did a great job,and over the last five years I have not once bought anything from backmarket that I wasn’t 100% proud to call mine and have told everyone I know about how good everything they sell is backed by a year warranty ,if you’re not happy send it back ,I’ve never had that happen ,it could but i doubt it,you don’t get this great selling bad stuff,and not taking care of your customers,thank you backmarket I’m you’re #1 fan keep it up

The ability to purchase with the knowledge my purchase is going to be a lot better than "fair". I have made 3 personal purchases and as a family a total of 5 purchase that everyone is still happy with their choice to buy from Back Market.
Account locked with no response from Safety and Security
My Back Market account was locked on May 13 with a vague “fraudulent activity” notice and no explanation. I have two open orders where the carrier miss delivered that cannot move forward while my account is restricted, mind you I can’t personally initiate an investigation but UPS mentioned this has happened in the misdelivered city frequently.
I contacted Safety and Security the same day, as the lock notification instructed. Six business days later, I have not received a single substantive response from that team despite multiple follow-ups.
Customer Care has been polite but has confirmed they cannot help with the lock and must defer to Safety and Security a team that does not respond. I have completed every verification step requested (Onfido identity check, proof of address) and remained cooperative throughout.
I have filed a BBB complaint requesting that Back Market simply respond to my messages and review the restriction. I am not asking for a specific outcome on the cases. I am asking for a response and a manual review.
For a company that markets itself on customer experience, going silent on a locked-out customer for nearly a week is a serious operational failure. Account access should not require an external complaint to get a response.
UPDATE (May 20): Back Market replied to acknowledge the case has been escalated, but my account remains locked and Safety and Security has still not responded directly. Updating this review when the access issue is actually resolved.
