I recently bought a pair of cycling gloves through Balfe's after trying to order them directly from Specialized. Unfortunately, every time I attempted to complete the order on Specialized’s website, I encountered an error.

Balfe's came up as the next best option—and I’m so glad I chose them. The entire process, from adding to the basket to payment verification, was quick and hassle-free. The gloves were delivered as promised to my local store in Hackney, and the staff behind the counter were incredibly helpful and friendly.

Good communication, quick service and a good price.

The gear cable snapped so I got it replaced, but the gears weren't indexed, only the cable was replaced.

The staff are very friendly and helpful, but they are busy, they said I would get my quote within 24 hours but 48 hours later I had to remind them, then got it an hour later and confirmed the work almost immediately, another 48 hours passed an dI called to se when it would be ready to collect, only to be asked why I hadnt replied to the quote email. When I sad that I had , and when , they apologised, said they'd complete the wok quickly, which the did and its all working perfectly now. So generally happy with the work done.

Super impressed with Balfe's. Thinking about buying a bike online? I suggest you call the company first. I went with Balfe's as they actually (a) pick up calls and (b) were friendly and helpful. I wouldn't like to have to return a bike to a company that doesn't answer the phone. The bike arrived in store within 2 days, was built the following day and adjusted to fit. Exceptional service throughout. Balfe's have clearly put a lot of thought into customer care. I have three more bikes to buy for the family and I'm not going anywhere else.

I put my bike in for a service at Balfe's Hackney branch. After a lengthy conversation over the phone with a staff member (Mike K?) about scope of work and agreed price then gave them the go ahead. 11 days later, when I went to pick it up, work hadn’t even begun. I wasn’t happy about that, even less happy with the glib “…mistakes happen…” from the guy in the workshop. When your bike is your main mode of transport that’s a pretty unthinking response. I took my bike away. Organisation and Team management clearly not a strong point, which doesn’t bode well for quality of work, I’d rather not risk it.

My only gripe is customer service.

They definitely have a ‘not my job’ attitude in that workplace when it comes to customer service. Despite 4 people in the workshop, it took over 3 minutes for someone to even acknowledge me, the only customer, standing and waiting. The same on the return except there was a guy working on a bike right in the front practically at the counter and he dared not make any eye contact whilst I waited for over 2 minutes.

It amazes me how people can be that way. Its just rude and unfriendly.

I only had pickup and drop off experience. Nothing wasn't really explained about what was done and not really sure if any else was checked or not. There wasn’t much of a convo on picking up other than the to advise to come back if something is not quite right, which appreciate.

Other than that, I was pleased with the repair on my bike.

Of knowledge and I learned a lot. A slight hiccup on the first bike I received and in all honesty, if I wasn’t a complete ignoramus about cycling, I probably could have and should have lived with. Dan however, was extremely patient and understanding with me and my need to have the absolute perfect bike and resolved my issue with speed.
