Banfield Doesn't Stop Billing You After Your Pet's Death
I signed up with Banfield Pet Clinic for their welness program where I would put money in each month that would go towards my dog's check-ups. I never had to pay a vet fee for any of his check-ups because I'd been paying monthly. Well, he passed away last December and because of their policy, I've had to continue to pay for their plan until my term was up. They told me it would be up in July. I told them to cancel when my term was up because I wasn't going to remember the exact time to remind them to cancel.
My card got canceled because of some fraudulent transactions, so they called to harass me about not making my payments today. I was pissed. I again had to pay money to get out of it, but finally was able to cancel. If you are considering doing Banfield's plan, I would recommend against it for this particular reason. Don't get into these plans. When you lose your pet, their business practices are bordering on extortion. They do not have a good policy for handling the death of your pet.
Banfield sucks
My puppy has blood on her eye
On I can't take her to my vet....they only do preventive care
Why bother? Ugh .
4th time I've called for apt and been told we don't do that here.
???
Then don't call yourselves Vets because you are not
Watch all things bright and beautiful ...you should be ashamed
Horrible
Horrible! They signed my 14 yr old daughter up for a lifetime of wellness checks for a stray cat that was never going to be her pet (and they knew of this). We were being nice and getting it fixed and taken to a pet store then $786 later they have never seen this cat or my daughter ever again and have no proof of her signing up for this service but will not refund anything not even an apology! I do NOT recommend this place to anyone!
I made an appointment for my cat to be neutered
I made an appointment for my cat to be neutered. The website quotes $293 for a male cat over 6 mo. When I got there it was just a consultation where they weighed him, looked at his ears and checked that he had two testicles. He needed rabies shots, so the charge would be $150 for that. They said he would need abooster 3 weeks later and then they could schedule the neutering after that. The quote was $522 additionally for the $293 neuter package. Two thumbs down. I went to another vet and had the procedure accomplished the next day for $350.

Extremely slow yet kind
Extremely slow yet kind
We're used to them being fairly slow -- Not them forgetting to do everything in a veterinary checkup and having to drive back the same day to get a blood check for our dog.
And the doctor has been out all week, so I am still waiting 4 days later for them to approve the prescription from Chewy.
Maybe one person shouldn't be in charge of approving Hartguard when it's not necessarily dangerous, only behind a paywall.
This city doesn't have a ton of options, but there are options, and they probably have less customers. So they'll probably be getting one more.
Veterinarian was rude
Veterinarian was rude, degrading and refused to do diagnostic tests because I did not consent to pain medications. Ultimately my dog died due to other complications, but now the comprehensive plan cannot be cancelled. Must pay for a plan for a dead dog.
Dog was limping and xrays were suggested by the vet. Pain medications also suggested but I said no because the reason for the limping hasn't been determined yet. The vet decided to tell me that she was a "medical doctor" and knew better. Decided to degrade me further and hung up. Granted, I'm just a human doctor that treats human beings and don't know anything about dogs, but the attitude and demeanor of the vet was uncalled for. On top of everything, the staff at the clinic handed me my dog and said that the instructions for medications were on the label, and then proceeded to go in the back room. Asked for a receipt but was ignored. Finally had to call them on the telephone for somebody to come to the reception desk for a receipt.
Banfield 1615 NE 21st Portland Oregon location…
This review is specifically for the Portland, Oregon location @ 1615 NE 21st. I have had issues with this location for quite some time but continued to go there because it was convenient, I blame myself.
What broke the camels back was my dog had a seizure a couple of days ago, it was early am, the message states they open at 7:30 am, no one answered the phone until 8:00 am (I did notice on the website it states 8:00 am opening). I spoke to the person who answered the phone and stated my dog had a seizure and needed to been seen. She stated we have no openings today you will have to find another location to take him too. (FYI, I did call Dove Lewis and they said to take him to his vet). Ok fair, but in the interim can you tell me what I should do for him, her answer was "I don't know, you will have to wait until the doctors come in and they will call you".
I begin the search, calling all locations in the area, some were so gracious in helping me find other locations they may have openings, even transferring me to them. (where the 21st location did not even bother) I found a wonderful location in Vancouver, WA off of Mill Plain.
After several test and thorough examination they told me my 13 year old dog could have several ailments that caused the seizure, which may include cancer or a brain tumor but the most pressing was fluid around his heart. I was told this would not have caused the seizure. I wanted a second opinion on the treatment since the estimate alone was extremely high and they could not tell me if this treatment would prolong his life and what his quality of life would be.
To make a long story short, my baby boy did pass away several days later of another seizure, my issue with the 21st location is the doctor did not call me, it was the technician and told me the doctor sent to my email some information regarding seizures, this was 3:30 pm. What is even more interesting is to this day there is no email from Banfield from the 21st location.
I made arrangements for my dear boy, then went to the location and settled my bill, since they expect payment for the contract weather you pet lives or dies.
They are short staffed, pack the pets in like rats and push them through their processes and hope they can convince you to pay extra for any additional ailments they may conquer up to charge you outside of the optimum plan.
Please find another location if you value your dear pets!!!!!!!!!!
Banfield used to be the best and now failed miserably and left Jake to hopefully survive......
Good day All,
We have used Banfield for over 26 years and with two Labs. During the first thirteen years and our first Lab Banfield was AWESOME Bar none!!!! They saved Jericho on many emergency occasions after eating plastics etc and during wellness. With our second Lab Jake, they took care of wellness, but the one emergency situation they would not see him today. They did try to suggest I try another Banfield to get Jake in and made me a back-up appointment on August 2 two weeks away. I called the second Banfield and was told no, but they would call the first Banfield and get me an appointment. Then dead air.... Why did my wife and I pay $40+ dollars per month for Labrador care when I was turned away in our hour of need? I went to ABQ Pet Care. ABQ Pet Care got me in immediately due to seizures. They provided a military discount and actually cared about Jake. I had to pay $800 plus but received the care for Jake in a timely manner. Not excuses and kick to the curb by Banfield. I'm cancelling Banfield and seeking a refund. They used to be the best of the best, now they are animal mercenaries chasing the $$$$$ instead of our pet's best interests. I still cannot believe the change from the best to the absolute worst. I would take Jake to the pound before taking him to Banfield...... In this case the results would be the same. Banfield Pet Hospital.... What a gross misrepresentation (needs to be turned in). They do not do emergency care (Now) (They did 13 years ago). ABQ Pet Care saved the day. Buy regular pet insurance, not a Banfield placebo.... Banfield used to be the best and now failed miserably and left Jake to hopefully survive......
They don’t care if they lose you as a client
Apparently they have a new rule: If you are over exactly 10 minutes late they will not see your pet. Well life happens … & that is unacceptable in my world. They are so rigid with their rule that they lost me as a long-time customer. I got the feeling that they really don’t care if I return or not. If we, the customer can’t be more than 10 minutes late, why don’t we get something in return if they make us wait more than 10 minutes! (which has happened many times) I will never use Banfield again.
Not worth the money
Not worth the money, even with a 75 a month plan I still paid almost 100$ every time I went.

If I could give this joke of a company…
If I could give this joke of a company 0 stars I would. Not only they are rude when talking to you on the phone but they will also lie to you. 6 months ago my payment didn't go through and I NEVER got notified about it , I found out 3 months later when I logged into my account. I called Banfield and ask the representative why I was not notified and I was told they had emailed me (which is not tru I looked through every single folder on my email and have nothing form Banfield) . Today I once again had the same issue with Banfield , on top of that any time I need any documents from them it takes days to get it and sometimes I don't even receive them. Stay Away from it, I would rather spend more money when taking my animals to the vet than give money to this joke of a company that knows NOTHING about customer service and a company that just cares about money.
Vet tried to coerce us into…
Vet kinda tried to coerce us into putting our dog down before his time. He's very old, and was shaking when we took him in, mostly from a fear of vets.
They were convinced he was in constant agony and tried to drop the bomb that we need to put him down. . . Right before they were about to close. We took him home instead, changed his arthritis meds, and he's still old and creaky but doing a lot better, and, surprise surprise, not shaking from pain. The vet kept spamming "dogs live in the moment" like an NPC. . . Not bothering to think that maybe we should give him a better "moment" for rest aside from shear terror.
They also didn't give us a receipt so we have no clue if he was actually vaccinated like he was supposed to be.
A seperate issue we've collectively had with them. A year ago, they tried to force us to continue paying our dog's wellness plan after he was put down for cancer. The plan is specifically written to be vague so you don't know you have to pay WHILE GRIEVING YOUR DOG. My dad spent days calling, dealing with horrific customer service, and after days of being treated like an idiot, suddenly there's an option to transfer the remainder of our first dog's plan to our second plan.
Not to mention, if you make a fuss about this, they treat you horribly from then on. There has been a vastly different quality of service since, employees that we knew for years suddenly ghost us or force us to wait just so someone else can deal with us, and it's consistent.
Update, we just got a notification that our dog is late on his vaccinations, so they didn't vaccinate him, which was the whole point of the potentially disasterous appointment where they tried to put him down last minute. So they didn't vaccinate him, didn't provide a recipt, didn't tell us.
Beware of Optimum Wellness Plan
Wellness plan is a bait and switch. They sell you on discounted prices then upsell you on services during the term of the agreement negating any savings you thought you would achieve. Also the discontinue process is unnecessarily time consuming. They force you to speak to a representative rather than just have a box you can click on in the customer portal to not auto renew. A hyper agressive business model with a smile on their face. Beware.
Horrible costumer service.
Horrible costumer service.
Not professional at all.
They are more concern of their lunch break than the costumer.
Find a local vet!
We have been at Banfield for a little over two years now. I really wish that I had read all these reviews before I signed up. I hate the fact that we never see or talk to the vet. I hate the fact that we don’t get to be with our animal while he is getting examined or getting his shots. I hate the fact that, just to get an immunization he has to be locked in a crate for hours. We just took him to get his dental cleaning, and when we brought him home, he couldn’t walk on his one foot for two days and he didn’t eat for four days. Considering we were just billed in March, we have another 600 and some dollars left to pay, but we’re not taking him back there. Twice during the last two years, we had emergency situations and they said they couldn’t even see him . I would never recommend Banfield to anyone.
Found a baby stray kitten said it was 8…
Found a baby stray kitten said it was 8 weeks old said it was prefect healthy made me pay didn’t tell me 1st visit is free and my baby threw up has worms!!!! And has trouble breathing
I see why this place has a bad rating
I see why this place has a bad rating! I had a terrible experience here. The manager was awful and has no idea how to deal with someone in crisis. They have no business running a foundation and is only concerned with money and not the community.
