I want to cry

I got this card years ago for the flyer miles. I just tried to use my flyer miles for the first time to purchase a 1-way ticket and the only option it would give me for my flight was at 6am, even though there were many other available flights that day, if I didn't use my flyer miles.

I want to cry.

Surprised Jetblue does business with Barclays.

They are unable to figure out how to call us for a security code in order to establish online access to card. The only reason I took this card was to get JETBLUE miles.. NEVER AGAIN... I am surprised Jetblue does any business with them. Reflects poorly on jetblue involvement with such a low rent company.

Stay away from Barclay

I made a payment on my old navy credit card (held by Barclay) I paid the credit card off. Over a week later I started getting text messages that my payment was returned for NSF. I contacted them and was told they were being sent in error and disregard them. They stopped, I went to Old Navy and my card was declined. I paid for my stuff and called the number when I got to my card. It was saying I still owed the payment. I spoke with corporate and she was going to investigate it, she said it will take a couple weeks. I never heard back, I called a week ago and was told a supervisor would call in 24 to 48 hours, no call. I filed a BBB complaint and they won't answer it. I will pay my card off but all this time they are playing around they are adding late fees.
I called my bank and it wasn't declined for insufficient funds, Barclay didn't put the first 3 digits of my account number in and that is why it was denied. So this is 100 % their fault and they are ruining my credit. It went down 31 points from them.

WORST customer experience ever

Worst customer experience ever! DO NOT ever take a credit card out with this company. After I closed my account, they sent me a credit (I guess I over paid). AFTER that date they allowed two charges to come across, to which they continued to add late fees. The $14 of charge became $51. I called on three occasions to try to get it fixed, escalated to managers, etc. They are either a bunch of idiots or they try to rip you off. Incompetent and unethical (great combo). I eventually was able to get them to open an investigation to try to fix it; after a few weeks I got a letter that says "because too much time went by they can't confirm any wrong doing". WHAT!?!?!?! The time that went by is on them. I called so many times to try to fix this. I paid it all today even though on principle I shouldn't have to, but it's not worth the time and aggravation. NEVER EVER EVER open a credit card with this company.

Less than 1 star if possible

Less than 1 star if possible. Horrid customer service and don’t even try to get multiple issues resolved. Ridiculous! If you are thinking about getting any service associated with Barkleys forget about it!!

You won't find a partner in Barclay! RUN!

When I have a credit card, I am looking for a partner. If my credit report shows 30% credit utilization rate, and I specifically pay down Barclay by a few thousand to lower my utilization, you can count on Barclay to then lower your credit limit so they continue to report high utilization. They are NOT a good partner. RUN!

I would absolutely never recommend the…

I would absolutely never recommend the Barclays GM Mastercard to anyone. Barclays is the worst company, their app is does not allow you to rate them when they ask for your opinion (complete waste of time), they don’t care to safeguard any of your information, and their Customer Service does not care about the customer at all of them speak no English and everyone I spoke with has a strong Indian accent dialect that is extremely difficult to understand and they do not use proper English so the language barrier makes them extremely difficult to talk with. I have spoken with over 10 reps about a Fraudulent Claim that needs reported to the FBI and they refuse to look into it after I provided documentation and they are very inconsistent, not helpful, and unclear. When you ask to speak to a manager their management is incompetent and the background noise on their end sounds like they are in a location inside a shooting range, making the language barrier even more difficult. This company needs to be run by people that actually speak English. Don’t waste your time with Barclays unless you to be ultimately disappointment and dissatisfied.

Was Good before, NOT so NOW

UPDATE on May 19, 2026:
My third dispute was denied. As always, nothing was ever sent to me in terms of why it was denied. Only thru CFPB intervention, I learned why it was denied. Ready?
"We were not provided with detailed description of what you were to receive." - this about a Starbucks transaction for $10.56 from overseas where they fleeced me by charging a currency conversion fee (I only wanted a refund of currency conversion charge).

Barclays: listen up, they were supposed to deliver a business class ticket, NYC-Singapore. Starbucks is also selling hotel rooms and vacation rentals.

Barclays is the most stupid company ever. Goodbye Barclays. Go back to UK.

They wanted me to tell them what
UPDATE on March 25, 2026:
I can finally confirm that this company has really gone BAD. This must have to do with the change of their President and Chairman. Now, their entire focus is on denying disputes left and right. They have found a novel way to do this.
(1) All communications I receive from Barclays are by electronic means and could be reviewed online. Examples: Credit Card Statements, Account Statements, Payments, even Confirmation of Opening a Dispute.
(2) However, Denial of Dispute Letter, along with reasons thereof, is sent by snail mail. WHY? They are doing this knowing that snail mail can get lost and thus disputes are closed, people don’t follow up, and Barclays don’t have to stand up for its customers.

ORIGINAL:
For a long time, this company was a Gold Standard for Credit Cards: Great Customer Service, Focus on eliminating Fraud, no Foreign Transaction Fees, etc. But now I have to sadly say that it is declining and going to dogs. See my AGODA review below. I filed a dispute about the non-existent property for which Agoda had billed me. Without any investigation, Barclay denied the charge back. I am quite disappointed in you, Barclays. I hope you will not force me to start looking for a better credit card provider. Please get your s*** together.

DO NOT USE

As a credit card user of 20 years with an >800 credit score, I can confidently say this is the WORST credit card customer service I have ever encountered. They stole 32.49 from me, and refused to refund it despite repeated attempts to contact them. They closed my account due to inactivity while I was having major healthcare issues and did not have the ability to access my account.

Balance Transfer Nightmare - I closed my account

Been a jetblue plus cardholder for years. I've done several balance transfers on the card where I would receive the funds directly deposited into my checking account; this time was no different. However, a day later I received and missed a call from their fraud department. I returned the call 20mins later and went through all the checks and the rep said I was "good to go." Lo and behold, they canceled my balance transfer and removed the ability to initiate another direct deposit transfer. After 2 phone calls with 2 reps and 1 purported manager, nothing was offered to be done and I was received was half-hearted apologies. I closed my account. I'm not paying a yearly fee to a bank that would cancel a transaction after 1 missed call, even when the cardholder calls back after 20mins. The lack of communication and the subpar customer service is not what I pay for.

Barclay is incompetent!

Barclay issued "authorized user" cards to fraudsters who promptly used them for 3 purchases. I was notified of suspicious activity after the 3rd charge and promptly reported is as fraud, along with 2 others. I was promised a call back within 2 days which would allow time for investigation. I called again the next week and was treated to another telephone marathon that resolved nothing. I wrote to the company. Charges were still on my account. After nearly a month, I called for the 3rd time and was told that because I had requested the bogus users removed, the charges could only be removed after the fake persons were added back on to my account! And I needed to call back for a 4th time for this to be accomplished. I made the call, bringing my phone time up to 7-8 hours and was assured that the matter was resolved. Nope - these idiots had reapplied the charges in duplicate and issued only a single credit against each pair of charges! It's been 6 weeks and the charges are still on my closed account.

Even more outrageous is the fact that Barclay issued cards to an address 2000 plus miles from mine, and allowed people to change my address and profile without ever pinging my phone!

I have an 830 credit score which is pretty much all one would need to know about my character. "Investigation"? What a joke. Even if Barclay offered a handsome credit to open a new account, I'd pass.

Barclay BAD BUSINESS Practice

I have had a Barclay Mastercard for over 11 Years, and my credit limit had reached $25,000. After my current statement closed this month[January 4th, 2026], Barclay decreased my credit limit to $5,019. This is a dramatic decrease of $19,981($20,000) with NO beforehand notification. Barclay sent me a letter, days later, stating NOT ENOUGH USAGE OF MY CURRENT AVAILABLE CREDIT LIMIT. Luckily, I only use 1% of my TOTAL (6) Credit Cards (Credit Limit). Additionally, Barclay is not my OLDEST (Open) Credit Account. I immediately paid off the balance and CLOSED my Barclay Mastercard--If they did this once, they will do it again, in the future; That's BAD BUSINESS. DO NOT GET A BARCLAY CREDIT CARD!

**** WARNING ***

**** WARNING ***
Stay completely away from this institution “BARCLAY” OLD NAVY” horrible customer service, they decrease your spending, without notice!!! I had a credit limit of 750.00 I charged 240.00 for Christmas gifts - I placed order 12/17- I then today look at my statement - it shows my limit is only 400.00 - so, I call and say what’s going on? They said we reduced your credit limit and sent a letter on 12/19- so, I place said order on 12/17 they decreased my credit limit to 400.00 in which now my credit usage is over 50%!! In which none of my credit cards are near that!! So, I paid off credit card today - I will then cancel once it’s processed!!! DONT APPLY FOR THIS CREDIT CARD OR ANY CREDIT CARD WITH THIS INSTITUTION!!! You will regret it horribly — I would give this company -0.00 if I could!!

Balance chasing

Have an Old Navy credit card through Barclays, less than a week ago I paid off my full balance. Only paid late once in the three, four years that I’ve had it. Original credit line was $800.00 just got a letter in the app today- they decreased my credit limit to $200.00. Seems like they absolutely balance chase- I held a higher balance due to some medical issues- but finally got back on track with everything and boom. Not that I planned on using that much, nor really using the credit card often- but now this will absolutely ding my credit score that I’ve been working so hard to raise.

Don’t get this card. It will be one of the worst mistakes you can make

This is thee worst credit card/bank ever. They continuously lower your credit limit despite making regular & more than the minimum monthly payments, & change the interest rates as well all with no knowledge or even talking or notifying you before doing it. Because of decreasing your credit limit & increasing your interest rates, it takes forever to pay the card off. Haven’t used this card since August, (6 months) & the blonde has gone nowhere lthough it’s being paid in 3 times a month. I wish I had read reviews before I got this card. Hopefully these reviews will help someone not to make the mistake of getting this card. I had to give 1 star because you can’t give 0 stars.

Left with alot of questions

We've had a Upromise Barclay credit card for years with no complaints until today. Yesterday, we received a fraud alert on the card in my name. My husband has a card but it's under my name. They were to reissue 2 new cards and send them Fed express requiring a signature. My husband's card was thrown on the front porch this afternoon. I tried to talk with a representative who was difficult to understand and hung up on me. She basically said a card was not requested for me eventhough the card is in my name and the envelope was addressed to me. ??? She told me the card would arrive on the 26th and that date could not be changed eventhough I can't be here to sign on the 26th.
