Horrible to work with
They took over gm credit cards from Marcus. Somewhere my account got lost. Talked to Marcus they told me it was sent over. Barclays is blaming everyone else for the problem. They finally told me it was sent to a collection agency with a 0 balance. Collection agency told me Barclays sent it there. Barclays tells me Marcus did. They won't take responsibility and are just horrible to work with. NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM UNLESS YOU WANT ISSUES
Paperless Billing - leads to late fees, collection agency and credit freeze.
After months of trying to get me to go to paperless billing for my account (Banana Republic, GAP, etc..) I did just that. March 2025 my wife makes a $72 purchase for clothes using my card without me knowing. Fast forward to December 2025 and I get a bill from a debt collector saying I owe $400+ for delinquency to pay off this debt unbeknownst to me. My credit line from my bank also goes on freeze for have a delinquent credit account. After verifying the $72 in charges I go back and don't have a single notification from Barclay US about the amount owed. No April statement, no May, June, July, Aug, Sep, Oct Nov or Dec. No notification of a late fee. Rather waiting 8 months to maximize penalties on a $72 balance to the point I owe $413, have my account suspended, my bank loan suspended and collection agency left to work it out. Customer Service at Barlclay US wouldn't even tell me if/when they had notified me of this outstanding bill either mail, email, phone or other because I was no longer a customer and to deal with collections. Of course it's because they never did notify me. Shame on them and I'll never work with their company or the retailers they represent again.
Beware
Unwarranted Credit Limit Decrease
As with many other reviews, experienced a DECREASE, WITHOUT ANY KNOWLEDGE, NOR CONSENT, of my credit limit. When speaking with Customer Service (if you can call it that) to find out why, the same as others - 'you don't use your limit'. As a 12+ yr customer, who never missed a payment or was ever late, I asked 'if you say I don't use my limit, tell me what the target $$ value you think I should use'. Anyone want to guess the reply, or lack thereof!!
Then there's the 'it's a soft credit inquiry, it won't affect your credit'. Well, we all know this is 100% untrue.
Spent my accumulated rewards points and fired these CLOWNS.
I was offered a balance transfer and so…
I was offered a balance transfer and so i applied and asked for $1900 to go to my Kitsap credit union credit card. They sent it to someone at BOA that is not me. After 6 months of repeatedly contacting Barclays many many times. nothing has been done. They continue to say they sent a letter to BOA and that is all we can do. They are horrible to their customers never get a credit card from them they will screw you over and act like its your fault and you need to fix it.
Rude
Rude, unhelpful customer service reps. Barely speak English and give you the runaround for even the most basic problems. Would give zero stars if I could.
Worst credit card
Worst credit card. If you near the credit limit, They’ll decrease your credit limit every couple of months. Every time they do your credit history gets hit with a low credit score. If you don’t use your credit at all say keep it at 0 balance for may months they’ll intimidate you that they’ll close your account for low or no activity.. wtf. They suck balls. Can’t wait to pay it off and use it to charge $1 every month lol.
Never had a problem until they decided…
Never had a problem until they decided I had too much debt for their liking. Reduced my limit from 10k to 6k with no warning or contact. Pure garbage company that gladly took my high interest payments. Reported me over the limit to reporting agencies for 25 bucks after they reduced it.
Don't give a F about the customer!
Never missed a payment but they decide to keep lowering my credit limit. I pay my bill every month and use the card. Now right before the holiday, they cut it by 2/3rds! WTF!
If I could give it a zero I would it is…
If I could give it a zero I would it is not worth it. They don’t let you use the points unless you use them with a lot of hoops and obstacles to use them. In my opinion do not get. The points they offer you are not worth the hidden fees and yearly fee. Horrible card. Do not get. I repeat do not get!
Worst customer service department in…
Worst customer service department in the world.
I was robbed by a merchant and filed a dispute.barclays closed my case without contacting the merchant.no one assisted me,
I am out $1800 and no help from Barclays.
My name is Joan Williams.
This is the worst credit card merchant,
Stay far from them,
Warning- Barclay is the worst
Warning! Do not get any credit card from Barclays. I have never missed the payment or a bill. I had the Athleta Barclay card, which I had used once for an Athleta purchased. It was stolen from my car, after which I immediately notified them And it took months for them to investigate. They then told me I had the card in my possession and was responsible for the charges, which I did not do. In addition I had hundreds of dollars more in fees because of the time it took them to investigate and wrongly accuse me of having made those fraudulent charges. Mind you, the charges were made in an area I had never been to before just avoid the hassle and never get a Barclay card!
Bad card
I have had a credit card with Barclay for ten years an this is now a terrible credit card. I have excellent credit and always pay in full and on time. As a result they have repeatedly raised my interest rate and lowered my credit limit. When I call to ask why I am told because I don't spend enough and I need to spend more. This is the most irresponsible terrible advice to give. I will never use them again. Very very poor customer service!
Do not remove fraud transactions from accout
Barclays has been very disappointing. They don’t remove obvious fraud charges from accounts and fail to protect their customers. Instead of helping resolve fraudulent transactions, they make the process frustrating and unsafe. This is not the level of security and support customers should expect from a major bank.
Nonsensical policies, FRUSTRATING …
Nonsensical policies and frustrating subpar IT at Barclays credit card services. Spent 90 minutes wasting time “running in circles” per their repeated various nonsensical instruction—and self-defeating policies, in the larger landscape. Unable to escalate my case, despite my experiences in CS mgmt and typical success in escalating.
Second star because rep tried to be nice/helpful—despite ridiculous BarclaysUS credit services policies/IT/admin, and I didn’t suffer major financial loss or fraud :/
Longtime Athleta (GAP, BananaRepublic, Old Navy) credit card (decades of experience taught me GAP Corp doesn’t have best credit card mgmt via various banks).
Rec’d email telling me to read my Barclays message via my acct on their website. After about six failed attempts with consistent 10-15min delays in receiving emailed passcodes that expire in 10min—and additional incidences with IT apologies for reflexively shutting down after successfully entering when trying to reset password because my password wouldn’t work, I called them.
Rep told me that I can’t see access my acct online (even though they clearly instructed me to do so in a BarclaysUS email today), unless I give them my current financial info, such as income and employment so they can make sure I can pay my bills, and is why they want me to open my acct on their site to read that they require this info. (No other credit cards actually demand this info, in my broad cc experience.) Anyone else see the problems with this request (request to nowhere)? Brick-wall circular reasoning. Nonsensical. FRUSTRATING waste of time.
I told Rep that I’d prefer to close my acct rather than divulge my personal info. So he proceeded to close my acct, even though I explained that I have a near-perfect FICO score (I paid off all loans early, which is why I can’t get 850 or 900 FICO), with a decades-long history of all on-time payments, use 1-3% of my credit consistently. But their credit card has so many issues, I shy away from using. Nonsensical business policies.
But I’ve seen worse (incredible and shocking) financial institution practices, UNFORTUNATELY. I don’t rec Barclays credit card services. (GAP Inc companies offer credit customers much better shipping rates, but not worth all
this time and frustration.) :-(
Worst bank ever
Worst bank ever. The place a hold on my account after ever purchase. It’s rude and embarrassing to always get denied with a 850 credit score.
Awful Customer Service!!!
I have an American Airlines card through Barclay and I am ready to cancel the account. I have 4 fraudulent charges on my account and no one speaks English well enough to understand the issue. I have called several times, waiting an hour just to get another person who can't understand me and I can't understand them. When speaking about something as important as MONEY there is no room for a language barrier.
AVOID Barclays, all robots, no service!
My GM credit card was transferred to Barclay. You can't get through to a real person. They won't let me download the app because my phone is Android 11 and they require Android 12. You answer about 20 questions to prove you are who you say you are. I won't be using my GM card till they find somebody who actually provides customer service. Avoid Barclays!!!
Barclay JetBlue cards sucks
I just cancelled the Barclay JetBlue credit card. Tried to buy an apple computer and sale got declined because of possible fraudulent charge. No message or email came to me to click that it was me. They locked my card and the customer rep and the manager were unable to lock my card after spending half an hour. The man/woman running the fraudulent department need to be fired. Disgusted with their service. Terrible Terrible Terrible.
I want the JetBlue card but cannot deal with Barclay
Terrible - high fees "Residual Interest" charges
Terrible.
I've been a customer for years, we pay our accounts (2) in full every month. In June 2025, I mistakenly scheduled the payments one day late. We got charged $29 late fee on each account, exorbitant interest, and this month, even though July's balance was paid in full, we got charged "Residual Interest" on both accounts!
I contacted Customer Service (I ate the June fees, they were technically my fault), no help.
Do not get this credit card
Do not get this credit card, there's are plenty of other places that will protect the consumer. If you have a dispute they will not help you when when they know it's in to your favor. The absolute worst credit card I have every had. I closed it!!
