Review summary

Based on reviews, created with AI

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers expressed dissatisfaction with the service, citing issues with claims, constant price increases, and poor customer service. People found it difficult to contact the company, often experiencing long wait times and unhelpful representatives. Reviewers also noted discrepancies between initial price quotes and the final prices, which frequently increased significantly after commitment. Some customers also reported concerns regarding policy cancellations or coverage denials. However, a few other people also felt that the premiums were reasonable and that the service was efficient, especially when setting up a new policy or reporting an accident.

Automerit needs work

My issue is with their highly inaccurate Automerit program. Firstly, it is very difficult to get it working in the first place as there are so many settings on your phone you have to turn on in order to give the app unfettered access. It took about 2 weeks before I got my first trip recorded. Secondly, the app does not pick up all driving trips. It seems to capture trips that only exceed 50km/hr or a specific distance, thus falsely calculating your yearly average driving. So all my inner city trips have not been counted. Thirdly, the use of a GPS program(ie Google Maps, Waze) can be interpreted as using your phone and thus be counted as distracted driving. Same for playing music from your phone, even if in both cases it is completely hands free use. I've only recently signed up but think it just isn't worth the hassle. Do not sign up.

I can't even give them 1 star

I can't even give them 1 star. Their customer service is horrendous, especially in the datails, which you would think might be important for an insurance company.

Daughter had an MVA, and for a week (so far), the claim has languised with no one in the company able to help. Garbage company

Lousy service and a lousy website

Lousy service and a lousy website. Unreal and unacceptable. Premiums keep on coming through my bank account regularly but talk about service. About as bad as it can get. Website doesn’t work. Manitoba’s name is not even mentioned in the list of provinces. Unbelievable indeed. Couldn’t get any worse. Something needs to be done immediately otherwise I have to do something else.

Johnson insurance was way better than this lousy outfit BelAirDirect. I am exploring my options as to what actions can I initiate to wake up this hopeless company.

Think twice before you get into this company

I contacted Beldirect to see if they did better than my current company for both Home and Auto insurance. The Sales and Service agent working from home asked for all the details and pictures and gave me an approximate quote. Wanted more details and provided it. Also sent the current quote from my existing company and never heard from her.

Looks like these guys have no interest or cares less for potential new customers.
I decided to stay with my existing insurance company and after reading all the reviews, I am glad I did not make the mistake of switching.

I can’t get through on the phone listening to same robotic message every minute telling me “my call is important to us.” You can ask for call back but doesn’t work for me b/c waiting for important call to come through The system needs to tell customer how long the wait is or what number they are in” priority sequence”. Poor customer service , not impressed after transfer from Medoc or Johnson & Johnson . After 15 min I don’t feel very important .

Very underhanded business practice!

I bought travel insurance for 2024 as we had two large trips planned to Europe and Australia. What I didn't realize is that the travel insurance auto-renews, which to me is a very under-handed way of doing business, as not everyone requires travel insurance on an annual basis. The Belair customer service rep claimed that the paperwork was mailed to me and that I had ten days to cancel the policy after receiving the paperwork. I did not receive the paperwork, or I would have cancelled. I found out about the renewal from my cc statement, and by that time, it was too late to cancel. So now I have a travel insurance policy and no plans to travel. I will never do business with Belair Direct again!

Rear-ended at red-light; don't want pay-out!

Rear-ended at red-light; they want to not pay and for my to sign-away my rights because I had an expired-licence BY A WEEK, at the time of being CLEARLY IMPOSSIBLY ANYTHING BUT NOT AT FAULT! And, so; nobody called me for a week and they're still determining "the liability," and haven't heard of RELIEF-FROM-FORFEITURE, apparently--and, in that, I had taken REASONABLE STEPS; TWENTY SECONDS BEFORE THE INCIDENT AT WHICH I WAS NOT AT FAULT, for my to have obtained, a renewed-licence--but, the government-office, had been lined-up out the door, and so; I hadn't had all day; and would return over and over the next days, perhaps yes, getting a ride those times--but I made a reasonable effort and no "condition-precedent," therefore, had been breached--nor in a "perfect-"manner. And. They think they can be their cheap selves with me, but based on how they must think I know nothing. But I know all the in's and out's of the few statutes but also case-law that pertain here to this exact issue-in-licensing. And. I will be furnishing them with the papers required that I civilly sue them; and they will lose. I am 38 I was not born yesterday. And. For two decades now; have always kept up to breast with my documentation. AND--my original-adjuster I just found out, had did the enviable thing of LEAVING THE COMPANY; like I should have done; but; insurance is the only special-industry that FORCES you to pay by preauthorised-debit, and, punishes you if you do leave. But. Nobody told me that. And. Nobody called me for over seven days. I ain't signing anything. And. They're still, like I said, "determining THEIR OWN, and, I guess, liability". They can navel-gaze further as I sue their pants off. What they also don't understand, is that, yes, my intelligent-non automatically coddled-and-pampered-non-boomer-self, KNOWS THE COMMON-LAW! And--all of these issues about government-related-boiler-plate-language in ALL our policies, HAVE ALREADY BEEN RULED ON AS FAVOURING THOSE WHO TAKE REASONABLE STEPS TO HAVE RENEWED AN EXPIRED LICENCE EXPIRED DURING ANY CLAIMED INCIDENTS! And, which I'd did do; and; so long as you don't therefore, break, in a "PERFECT-"MANNER, any of these boilerplate, "conditions precedent," which is another term for said boilerplate. THE SYSTEM, "stare decisis," and THE JUSTICES OF THE APPELLATE COURT OF ONTARIO FOR THE SUPERIOR COURT HAVE ALREADY RULED IN FAVOUR FOR APPELLANTS SUCH AS MYSELF! Tell your lawyers to go back to school; I can't wait until you pay my counsel's fees and look like the losers you are at the behest of one you discriminated against and had taken as a moron.

Appalling service from Belairdirect

I have property insurance with Belairdirect for my seasonal trailer park. The trailer was damaged in an ice storm in March and after the park opened in May I filed a claim for damage estimate on May 15. Over 3 months later, I am still waiting for a damage estimate from Belairdirect and my window for getting repairs to my trailer before the park closes in October is narrowing by the day. I have numerous unreturned emails and phone messages and there seems to be an absence of accountability or effective escalation to get this claim addressed. Quite frankly, I am appalled by the level of service provided by this company.

Called them for a quote because my insurance went up to almost 300 dollars.
They came up with 443 dollars and told me too many claims. I got hit by 5 different cars on the last 10 years. Never at fault.
Two speeding tickets from stupid radar. Nothing major. Going 5 points over.
I don’t know where they took this number from but I will never call them again.

This is a terrible insurance company…

This is a terrible insurance company that increases rates constantly.
Belair charges a fortune to insure my two houses and two vehicles.. plus they can't even insure my log cabin on land I own as well so I had to get another company to do it.
Their agents never respond on a timely basis, I am actively looking for a better insurer on my renewal but in melee mouthed Canada choices are limited like most communist style countries.

My mom has been with Johnson insurance…

My mom has been with Johnson insurance for 18 years which is now BelairDirect ,she has a good payments history with them, by making Sure she deposited enough for her insurance withdrawal .a few weeks ago there was a increase in the monthly withdrawal which she was not aware of, she did not receive any mail or call to inform her of this ,so the withdrawal did not go through which also cause a service charge for insufficient fund ,my mom just learn of this when she went to make another deposit for the upcoming month, After calling Belair Directly to explain, they told her that her insurance was cancel and they had send a letter with a deadline, anyway we ask to speak to a supervisor who didn't call until 5 days after he ask us to pay the outstanding amount and then to another department to speak with a license insurance person who will rewrite a new policy taking into consideration she is a customer for 18 yrs he thinks with good will the underwriter will approve this, she spend approximately 30 minutes on the phone setting up the new policy with thiis person and after completion ,she was told to wait for the underwriter to review it,then less than 3 minutes he came back to say that he said noway he will give her a second chance of doing business with them, my mom feels that the 18 yrs of doing business and having a good history of payment was totally ignored and she was just another number they would erase, very sad .

Totally Ghosted By Belair

My spouse has been a customer for 12 +years. I have had to make a claim for my vehicle and am having the most horrible experience. The adjuster assigned to my claim, Zara Riswan, firstly took down incorrect information regarding my claim. I have been emailing and calling her as well as her supervisor Dara for a few days now and I have been totally ghosted. This is unacceptable customer service, when they state they will call back with in 48 hours. Maybe they will see this review and get back to me. Who knows

I’ve been with belair for 8 years

I’ve been with belair for 8 years, had a hit and run recently and they said it was an accident caused by me. Totally calling me a liar. They said their inspectors deemed it not a hit and run. I believe they have inspectors trying to keep their jobs by deciding in favour of the company to grab more money on a new policy. It’s a big scam they have going, Now putting my rates up by 1200.00 a year more. These guys are crooks, do not use them !!!
I’m leaving them for an honest company.

Belair seems super shady(scam alert)

Belair cut off my insurance immediately after I missed a payment. I called to fix the payment and the man on the phone wasn't capable of explaining what was going on and told me im going to have to pay almost double my already staggeringly high monthly bill just to get my insurance with them back. I told him I wasn't able to pay that I guess send it to collections and I'll pay my bill later on. Now im getting calls from collection saying I owe double the amount of the initial bill anyways. Update, I called today and the lady on the phone tells me that conversation never happened. And I have to pay the full amount.

I wish you could give 0 stars

I wish you could give 0 stars. We called to update our policy we were told that we would get a refund of X. When we called to see where it was we were told that they entered it as a cancelation instead of an update and finance determined that we could not get X instead we now owe Y. However, they will kindly waive Y which is significantly less the the refund we were supposed to get. I suggested they reenter the request and I was told they can't do that as the policy has been changed. When I asked to speak to a manager I was told they would make a call back request and that it would be 7 business days. If I ran my company like that I would have no clients. In the end, we left Belairdirect twice now and they keep buying up the independent companies that we move to.

Take away cancellation fees

Take away cancellation fees. If somebody finds a policy for half as much as what you are charging, they shouldn’t be penalized for cancelling and switching. This company is overpriced and does not have any coverage.
