bad to worse
My last review was that the pool was nice but not sure what “better” have done to the place, everything works now and broken lights finally fixed but staff are miserable. The floor manager has got worse since my last review, Tracey just looks like she wishes she was somewhere else.
The price increase is an absolute joke, that was the last straw for me.

I used to love this gym but it's gone downhill…
I used to love this gym but it's really gone down hill after Better took over. And this isnt a complaint against staff. Atherton used to have an amazing programme of varied, impactfull classes and they got rid of all of that and replaced it with legs bums and tums. These were packed, popular classes with incredible instructors, and almost entirely the only reason for membership. I'm probably going to be cancelling at this point, because I waited to see if we'd have all the cancelled classes/programming adequately replaced. But this has not been the case at all. Also dirt and unpleasant smells have become a much bigger issue than previously. Just super disappointed, there is a managed decline in the services and quality of the gym, while still increasing prices. This is my experience since betters take-over and until now.

The reception staff are very helpful
The reception staff are very helpful, I love the pools as they have easy access for older swimmers, and I appreciate the time slots so the pools are never overcrowded. A costume spinner would be an asset, and an extra hairdryer would be useful. The lifeguards are very watchful and nice.

My classes without appropriate notice, now no instructors taking over current classes I was attending to changing from Les Mills to some other programme without no notice. Yet you want to increase my charges from 1 April which is a joke as the service you are providing is below par. Great customer service by Gavin
Better have recently taken over my gym and my membership was up for renewal. There was a discrepancy with the price for the annual membership so I emailed customer service. Gavin contacted me by phone to assist and he was great at resolving my issue. I managed to renew my membership over the phone at my usual cost. He was very helpful and the whole experience was pleasant due to his genuinely pleasant manner.

Very poor management and customer service
I am a regular customer, as both my daughters and I have memberships for swimming lessons. One day, my wife and son accompanied us, but the front desk staff unfairly targeted my wife. My son, who is under two, innocently approached the gates and began to pull on them. While we fully understand this isn't safe and shouldn't happen, the staff member responded rudely and aggressively, saying, "Can't you see your son is breaking the door?" My wife calmly explained that our son is under two and wasn’t pulling hard enough to cause any damage. The staff member then retorted, "It’s not my fault your child can't behave."
My wife reported the incident to the on-duty manager. As she was explaining, the staff member interrupted and shouted, calling my wife a liar, seemingly trying to prevent her from making a complaint.
I submitted an official complaint about the staff member, but I was dissatisfied with the management's response. They claimed that the staff’s behaviour was unintentional and reminded us of our responsibility. We had already acknowledged our responsibility in the initial complaint, but management appeared to defend their staff instead of addressing her inappropriate behaviour.
I feel this situation was handled poorly by management, and I am now considering cancelling all of our memberships if we continue to be treated in such a hostile manner. My wife had planned to sign up for a gym membership but has decided against it after this experience. I would not recommend this leisure centre if that rude staff member continues to work at the front desk.
