Absolutely love Oasis leisure centre…
Absolutely love Oasis leisure centre gym! They recently upgraded some facilities which are top-notch, with a wide range of equipment that caters to all fitness levels. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to assist. The gym is kept clean and well-maintained, which makes for a comfortable and motivating workout environment. Whether you’re a beginner or do a heavy workout this place has everything you need. It also has a great outdoor pool which is hard to find in central London. Highly recommend it!

Totally frustrating locker system...
The gym at Oasis Sports Centre in Covent Garden, London, is basic – it’s functional but gets the job done. That said, the booking system is efficient, and there’s rarely a wait for equipment, which is a plus.
However, what’s totally frustrating is the locker system. Each use requires a token, costing 30p a time, which quickly adds up. On my last visit, two lockers simply swallowed my tokens without working. And if you accidentally leave something behind and need to retrieve it, that’s another 30p gone. Given the already steep monthly membership fees, it seems unreasonable to charge for lockers every single time, which is why many people opt to leave their belongings on the floor in the gym itself.
A simple solution would be a refundable £1 deposit system, where users get their money back after use. This would feel far less like an unnecessary cash grab.
Okay, I think I’ve made my feelings about the lockers clear! 🙂

Mis-selling of membership type
In the wake of the closure of the Central YMCA, staff from Better Oasis engaged with Y members and offered some Better memberships. One that was offered on many occasions was a one-off payment of £41.80 for Camden non-residents which was to include discounts and importantly, free swimming on weekday mornings. I joined up for this, only to find when I visited Oasis that the membership doesn't exist. I contacted the people who engaged with me and they admit I was given the wrong information (many times) and that this membership does not exist. Thus I was mis-sold it. I was grudgingly given my money back, but this is a warning to those out there who may also think this membership exists. Be very careful before you sign up. Obviously I'm very unimpressed with Better and have made a formal complaint about this. They have fobbed me off with an empty apology. Beware!

This gym is extremely disappointing. The layout is poorly designed, the facilities are outdated, and the overall atmosphere is unpleasant. The clientele leaves much to be desired, and it offers terrible value for money compared to other gyms in London. Definitely not worth it.

Patronising staff at the Oasis
The male staff at the Oasis, London WC2H 9AG have no idea how to speak to older women. They are patronising, dismissive and unhelpful. If I could give this centre zero stars I would. I warn all older women not to attend this centre for any classes. It is just about possible to go swimming there as this involves minimal engagement with staff. Otherwise - AVOID, AVOID, AVOID.

Dirty changing rooms and poor state of squash courts.
I only play squash here. The walls are crumbling, there is no air con for hot days, the showers only have 1 hot temperature, and the showers are full of mould and bugs crawling around.
Not the worst place I've played but far from the best.

Excellent service
Earlier this week I booked swimming at the Oasis Centre Endell Street. I found that there was no way of doing this except to pay a fee of £2.65, though I was certain that. as a Camden resident ,I was entitled to free swimming on Mon-Fri before 12 noon.
I therefore used the Complaints route to ask Better to amend my records and to arrange the refund of £2.65.
When I arrived at the pool, the receptionist explained the change in my position, and that I needed to re-register as a Senior Concessionary customer. I realised that I had not read the information sent to me earlier carefully enough. He arranged the first part of updating my position, but said that I will need to upload the relevant ID.
When I got back home, I found that I had already received a reply from Better, stating that “you booked your session prior to you being on the correct membership type which is why you were charged.” But the email went on to say that “On this occasion, as a goodwill gesture, I have refunded you for the session”.
So I am delighted to say that, in a time when the public often feels ignored and neglected by organization, Better have set an example of how things can be run efficiently but considerately
