Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 296 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many people expressed dissatisfaction with the service, particularly regarding furniture collection, which was often described as incredibly poor and frustrating due to unclear conditions and inconsistent information. Customers frequently reported issues with the delivery service, including late arrivals, no-shows, and drivers refusing to collect items for various reasons, such as lack of space or parking difficulties. Reviewers also found the staff, especially collection drivers, to be rude, unhelpful, and dismissive, often making exaggerated comments about the condition of items or searching for reasons to reject donations. Some people were dissatisfied with the product quality, citing issues like a fridge freezer developing water and ice build-up shortly after purchase, and items being sold with hidden defects. Conversely, a small portion of people felt satisfied with the staff, describing them as helpful, polite, and professional, and appreciated the wide variety of quality furniture available.

Rubbish

Rubbish! Collection van arrived while I was briefly out. I left a note on the door for them to contact me. They didn’t - drove off and just put a postcard through my letterbox to arrange recollection. I won’t be using them again!

Refused a collection

I never want to give a bad review on a charity. And I have always donated to this charity in the past.
Never again!
I Had arranged to get a solid oak extendable table collected. I had to wait over a week as the date they first booked had to be changed for logistical reasons. I had a couple of calls from their office and on both occasions advised that it was table only, no chairs (as I was still using them as I had replaced the large table with a smaller one that fits my space better.
At no time was I told that they only pick up tables with chairs!
The collection guys arrived, were very rude saying they don’t collect tables on their own. They must have chairs as unsaleable without. I actually bought the table without chairs a few years ago.
My mother suffered heart disease and I had always supported BHF even considering leaving a donation in my will.
I won’t be doing that now, nor will I donate the bedroom furniture that is also in excellent condition.
I did contact another charity who had no issues with there being no chairs. They collected it the same day and were delighted with it.

Thank you for sharing your experience — I’m very sorry for the frustration and disappointment caused.

You’re right to expect clear information in advance, and I’m sorry this wasn’t explained to you before the collection. The behaviour you describe from the collection team is not acceptable, and we’ve shared your feedback with our retail management so this can be addressed.

I’m also sorry to hear about your mum’s heart disease, and it’s particularly upsetting to know that this experience has changed how you feel about supporting the British Heart Foundation. We truly regret letting you down on this occasion and appreciate you taking the time to tell us what went wrong.

Dreadful customer service

I bought a table and four chairs from the BHF eBay shop. I sent messages & emails trying to get the phone number of the shop to arrange collection but all I got were generic autoresponders. Eventually I drove 45 minutes to the Huddersfield shop but when I got there the chairs were badly damaged. This was not visible in the photos or in the written description. Three men who work in the store all agreed as we looked at the listing together. I was told they could not refund me I would have to go via the online shop. I drove 45 minutes back. BHF have the furniture AND my money! I sent a message & asked to cancel the transaction - the reply stated they could not deal with it until they had spoken to the shop, Then 3 days later I got a message saying the cancellation had not been actioned. I had to ring eBay for help & have now had to report the items as 'not having arrived'. All so ridiculous, time consuming and irksome. It really puts one off trying to support charity. I am still waiting for any type of reply!

WASTE OT TIME OFFERING VERY GOOD ITEMS.

I booked a collection for a donation of a very lovely nearly new full size dishwasher. We are having a new kitchen fitted and all electrical app are built in, so we thought we would ask the bhf would like it, i phoned them they ask condition etc and said they would be very pleased to have it. When the driver came to collect it the man in charge refused to take it saying it was to big, he then tryed telling me they only take counter top which was a lie. I phoned the shop to conplain, was told the manager was going to look into why the driver would not take it. I am still waiting for the phone. This was 10 days ago I WILL NEVER USE THE BHF AGIAN. The driver was very very unhelpfull and rude the Cardiff bay store could not be bothered at all.

Home Store - Birkenhead.

Home Store Birkenhead.
Collection for Suite booked and confirmed as a collection between 9-11. Finally arrived at 12.40 and went to the wrong house. When asked to return within a few minutes of leaving driver refused as he had attempted collection from the address given based on the fact he went to the house next to number 110. He went to 108! not 112. He blamed me for not being there despite the fact he was at the wrong address.
To make matters worse I called the Store to complain and the Duty Manager was too busy in the back of the shop to speak to me.
They are wanting donations but then cannot be bothered with any customer service.
Extremely poor service

Waste of time if you live higher than a ground floor flat

Had booked a collection for the 16th march from the cardiff bhf. So all good all booked in and the day before just wanted to check all ok.

Come delivery day i had to nip out but my wife was in all day and she waited and waited and still no collection. She then texted me to check on my emails whilst i was at the job centre only to see my emails to day they have collected and made the delivery a sucessful one.

What utter liars my wife was in all day and nobody buzzed the intercom. So i returned home fuming and telephoned the cardiff branch and they would get back to me within an hour. An hour passed still no phone call so decided to ring them no answer, left it for half an hour finally got to a manager.

She was ok sympathectic and i could hear the delivery driver mumbling over the phone and offered an alternative collection so i explained i live on the second floor flat and was told it was against health and safety what utter nonsense. So i said i will donate to someone who will apreciate it and wont ever give my donations to bhf ever again untill theres positive changes.

If you have furniture donations give them to local charities who would appreciate them.

Appalling pick up - looking for reasons not to collect

I arranged a pick up of mums furniture the day that the keys were being handed back to the council. The guys that came to pick it up said no to so many things . First the bed needed to be dismantled to get out (I took the matters off and turned it on its side and it got through the door)so they had to take it. Next the backs of the shelves were slightly adrift so they couldn’t take it- I had a camping mallet and 30 seconds later hey presto all fixed. Next they refused to take the mattress as it wasn’t spotless (small water stain) and they refused the 2 year old cream leather sofa bed due to cracked leather (not cracked, just standard leather creases)- they looked fir any reason not to take things. So now these items don’t have a home and I’ve had to leave in the flat and mum will be charged for their disposal. Thank you very much BHF. It’s stressful enough moving mum into a home without this

Thank you for sharing this – I’m really sorry for the additional stress this caused at what was already a difficult time for you and your mum. We understand how upsetting it must have been to have items declined on the day, particularly given the circumstances. Our teams do have to follow safety and suitability guidelines, but it’s important this is communicated clearly and handled sensitively. We’ve shared your feedback with our retail team so this can be reviewed.

terrible staffing at Cramlington store

Thankless after making donation of furniture, it does not cost to say thank you, maybe you should teach your staff. The three Neanderthals we dealt with were very ignorant with zero communication skills. Will never donate to them again or venture into their stores.

Romford bhf collection disasters …

Romford bhf market square first attempt at a collection never happened because I didn't answer my phone or reply to the answer phone message they left..... I don't have answer phone on my phone - it just rings.... They never called me.
Second attempt was to be 2 weeks later and was confirmed by staff for the 12th of March 2026 yay!!!
First message confirming that they were coming was at 6.30am.
I phoned to ask about times they would arrive and got told that I would receive a message from the bhf about a time window - excellent!
13.05 your driver is on their way be at the collection address for 13.45-15.45.
Arrived at the collection address at 13.20 and checked my messages from the bhf and my collection had been cancelled... Super. Phone the office to ask why and got told the 'system is playing up and they have another 8 collections and the lady said she would contact the driver to check if they could come back. I phone again at 14.30 and get told by another member of staff that the driver had competed the route for today and I would have to rebook.. Fabulous!!
The same reason for cancelling was due to me not answering my phone apparently the number was wrong!!
They see my number on the confirmation page of the collection appointment and they have been sending me text messages from 6.30am!!!!
I advise people to think twice about donating to the bhf when there are apps available for giving away anything and everything.
No apology either.

Awful staff

My daughter booked a pick up from the Glasgow Forge branch which she regularly visits as a customer. Was for my Dads flat as moving to a home and required many items picked up.
All organised until day of pick up. Asked for a non first thing appointment during comms due to travelling time/distance to be there.
Was agreed then contacted at back of 07.00hrs by text would be there in time window of 0815-1015. Further text from driver to say on way so had to get there asap.

On arriving advised of text and the driver said as soon as he gets in his van in the morning thats him started work and lassie in the office is wrong.
Whats the point of giving a time frame then?
2 males were in a BzhF van. Neither identified themselves but older of the 2 was nothing short of a disgrace, in fact came across as a wee ned.
Immediately advised he was in charge, no matter what had been agreed and that he would decide what would be picked up and what wouldnt. No people skills whatsoever, slang, abrasive, confrontational and a total embarrassment to this company, younger guy said nothing but must be a long day working alongside this wee guy. Get rid of this wee clown. Happy to discuss with management as folk like him just in the wrong job.

Took 2 things and left the rest. Total waste of our time.

I have worked in public sector for over 40 years, regularly visiting people at home and he just did not have the basc skills to appropriately handle the situation well.

Got an email from them afterwards that would not let me respond to and voice my concerns.

Unreliable Collection Service

UNRELIABLE & UNHELPFUL - We rang and booked a collection of our sofas three weeks ago. They turned up today (10.3.26) and took one look at the sofas and said they would not take them because they had a few dog hairs on (despite us having had covers on the sofas which were only taken off as they knocked at the door, which is probably where the dog hair came from) sofas were in a very good condition (parker knoll) and would have done someone a good turn.
We also had issues with them on another booking where everything had been finalised and then upon turning up to collect they changed their minds on what they would take.
Totally unreliable & unhelpful with a can't be bothered attitude. They should inform customers on the phone at the time of booking of the do's & don'ts and whether items need to be cleaned first or not. We cannot believe that a Charity can afford to be this fussy and ungrateful and rude.
Wouldn't recommend. We've now had to pay for an urgent collection as new sofas being delivered tomorrow.

Terrible experience buying from BHF Furniture Store online

I recently had a terrible experience purchasing from the British Heart Foundation furniture store via eBay and will not buy from them again.

I bought a kitchen table and chairs set using the auction platform after seeing the listing online. The photographs in the listing did not show any damage to either the table or the chairs, so I proceeded with the purchase and paid a significant amount for the set to be collected and delivered to me.
However, when the items arrived, they were clearly damaged, with chips, scratches, knocks, and visible wear from use that had not been shown or disclosed in the listing. Had this damage been visible in the photos or mentioned in the description, I would not have purchased the set or paid the considerable delivery cost.
I contacted the British Heart Foundation to report the issue. They initially offered a 25% discount, but this was not acceptable to me given the condition of the items. I requested a full refund and for the table and chairs to be collected, as the items were not as described.
Since then, I have had to go back and forth with them repeatedly. After I referred them to my rights under consumer rights legislation, they stated that they would arrange collection of the items, but they have still not confirmed that I will receive a full refund despite my follow-up messages. In addition, no one has contacted me to arrange the collection.
As a result, I have now had to ask eBay to step in and assist. My concern now is that although I may receive a refund through eBay, the British Heart Foundation may fail to collect the damaged furniture, leaving me responsible for arranging disposal of large items that should never have been sent to me in this condition.
Overall, this has been a very disappointing, expensive, and exhausting experience. I have even had to purchase a brand-new table and chairs, which I could not really afford, simply because I could not face the stress of getting into this situation again.

BRITISH HEART FOUNDATION WANTS YOU TO LEAVE YOUR FAMLIY

If you work for this company you might as well be a slave . My daughter works at a home store about 16hours a week . They called her in at the start of the week for a meeting thar lasted 2 hours she was unaware of how long this was to last and had a dwp appointment which the manger stopped her attending . They then decided to have a new till put in instead of someone showing my daughter when she's in work she pretty much got badged untill she returned from a small mid week holiday to have to go in UNPAID on her day off to see how the new till works when she asked if someone would be able to record it for her . The manger at the kings lynn store has zero companion, nor does the like any of her staff have Famliy coming before the shop I know at least two people who have been pushed out if that shop because they were made to choose there job or there famliy . She wants no one to have a life outside of work she constantly wants you to do what SHE want ( she that bad my mother has named her She-devil ) she doesn't care if you are in work time or not .As far as she is concerned once you start working at kings lynn homestead she owns you every waking moment even if you are not in work !!

Awful experience this morning.

Awful experience this morning.
Text for collection time arrived after their two obnoxious collectors bashed on our door.
They could not speak English well enough to understand I needed to get the item downstairs.
They were petulant that I refused to let them in to my home and that I took a couple of minutes to get the item downstairs.
They then refused to take the item on a feeble excuse saying they couldn't sell it. This was especially galling as it originally came from their shop and was only being donated again as I had seen one for sale in a charity shop in worse condition.

Over the years I have donated to them and the collection people were all nice and grateful for donations. I don't know if they have outsourced it to a dodgy company rather than having volunteers, but now they look and feel like criminals with more interest in trying to gain access to the house than collection of donations.

Never again a Waste of my time and goodwill

I do not quite know who the heck these people think they are. we had a great many valuable items to donate and they arrived to tell us loftily that due to a crack in one of the fridge containers they would nt be able to take it. But were happy to take an AEG washing machine two years old but not the furniture we had also offered. BHF can go F themselves for ever more.

Also we have to wait for their arrival again loftily announced and no indication of morning or afternoon. We have placed all said items with a spice website who appear to be more intelligent .
