BIDDULPHS INTERNATIONAL damage your stuff and then are silent and frustrate you

I recently relocated from KZN to Johanesburg and we regret using Biddulphs International.We took out insurance for our goods and they are a fsp but did not explain.We insured our goods for higher amount but we were told to adjust it to a lower amount which was quoted.Their staff damaged several items and staff are unprofessional,staff member requested to use the toilet and urinated all over the seat and laughed,their staff member carries furniture in the rain with slippers,Staff wear environserve uniform.They did not collect my dog kennel and bird cage which I paid for and also insured,they now don't want to assist and pass the buck to the insurance, their staff member loaded shelves which they damaged and now their insurer confirms theu won't pay as the items was not on the inventory,they damaged my plastic storage containers and don't want to pay as the items were not noted in the inventory,but they damaged it.They damaged my stairway scrapping items on the stairway,their ceo is very quite and does not want to communicate,please do yourself a favor and stay away from Biddulphs International poor pathetic service!

Absolutely useless

Absolutely useless. Couldn't even get yourselves organized to come and quote. 2 Other large removal companies already been and quoted. Very glad I didn't start the process with you if this is the type of service you deliver. Imagine the disaster awaiting me if I had!!

Absolutely useless

We moved from Bloemfontein, South Africa, to Brisbane, Australia, in October 2021, and Biddulphs collected our things that same week.

Biddulphs was absolutely useless with our container.

Not only did it take more than a year for us to get our container, but there was a box missing and Biddulphs made it as inconvenient as possible to claim our insurance. Also, the insurance they sold us for R2200 was worthless, so it didn't even pay out.

Things were bad from the start because a few months into the process they asked for an additional R6000 because of 'unforeseen costs' - which should not be the customer's problem.

I hate them and would not recommend that anyone use them.

International removals from South Africa

Packed up my house in South Africa on 29th July last year……. STILL waiting for various items of furniture to arrive in UK, even though I paid for everything to go into the same container!! To add insult to injury, when I unpacked the boxes (sealed by “packers”) that did arrive, several valuable items were missing. Don’t trust them on any level…….

They simply don't value you or your goods!

Please understand that I can't find a sufficiently honest way to express how bad Biddulphs is! It may just be the consultant on the garden route but they do not have a clue about the importance of there cargo! Communication is key and one should not have to threaten to get a reasonable response and the planning of how they ship is shocking!
My suggestion.... If you are relocating and value having your household around you.... Look elsewhere!

Biddulphs assisted me with relocatig to the Netherlands

Biddulphs assisted me with relocating to the Netherlands. From start till end they were extremely professional, friendly and patient as they understand that the move is very stressful. They worked efficiently, even with the shortage of containers, and I received my goods in perfect condition. They are affordable when compared to other companies. I would highly recommend them just based on the staff and kind assistance. Additionally, the company they used in the Netherlands (Gerson Relocation) were just as helpful and patient. The relocation of my goods was the easiest task I had to do throughout the entire process of immigrating.

5 star service from Biddulphs & Carlo Brown

I was due to move to the UK and Carlo Brown from Biddulphs was really super helpful and patient at this very stressful time. He patiently answered every email and query and called me back every time I asked him to - which was many times! He really provided the best of customer service and never made me feel as if I was bothering him at all. The moving team were super professional friendly and helpful and very considerate and tidied up everything after they left.

In a bizarre twist I ended up not leaving and Carlo was very helpful in getting the information to me to have my packed goods returned to my flat

A very satsified customer who was extremely stressed and worried about moving continent

We just moved from RSA to Italy.
Biddulphs door-to-door service was excellent.
From the first meeting to obtain a quotation, to the packing of our "lives" (done exceptionally carefully), to the shipment which arrived in Italy way, way earlier than what I anticipated - seen the state of turmoil in which the shipping world is presently and finally to the delivery of the goods at out new home, everything was done professionally and basically well.

Horrible feeling when you are moving…

Horrible feeling when you are moving overseas and you put trust in people that will not even give you proper advice.
Very dissatisfied with the service from Biddulphs, would never recommend the Durban branch or trust them with packing and delivering overseas, no feedback from Kesh and her manager unless you call or email and that also a delayed response . Only received my goods because I complained to customer services and Suttaford's were willing to collect my items from the biddulphs warehouse and have my goods shipped to Australia. The packing process was a rush and one one staff member was sent to my premises, my goods were loaded on the back of a Toyota hilux and waited on the road side because the driver did not bring any restraining equipment. There were too many missed shipping opportunities but payments were were asked for and were made immediately when Kesh requested, when there are customer service skilled attained at the Durban branch, business might be better for Biddulphs

We are perturbed to hear of this review.

Firstly, you have left similar reviews on other website and media forums that have been removed for being misleading.

Secondly, your goods at the time were delayed and/or affected by the massive unrest and looting that occurred in KZN, South Africa, in mid 2021.

Thirdly, most estates and premises require smaller shuttle vehicles and depending on operational requirements, even our 1.5T dyna closed vehicles exceed weight entry limits into estates. Using a bakkie shuttle vehicle is normal practice where required to place into a larger vehicle outside, however the items should have been covered (if they were not) in the event of bad weather.

Fourth, we even had your sister in law come to the depot to view your goods since you were already overseas and unavailable. You have been kept abreast of all movements from November (except briefly during the looting period where our branches were closed temporarily) about your shipment and when we were planning to ship.

Fifth, the only additional invoice that was raised to you is for the difference in rate of exchange before we could ship as per our terms and conditions and given we can only get this when the container finally loads from the shipping line. These amounts are normally charged in foreign currency and would therefore be quoted at the time we are informed accordingly when your container loads into stacks and ship departs. There is indeed a frustrating time lag on this.

Sixth, we have seen delays of ships docking into ports for up to 6 months as they bypass South Africa due to port inefficiencies, wind bound issues as well as the fact more ships are not stopping in South Africa to deal with more backlog and congestion at overseas ports. All removal companies would have been affected by the same issues we experience. The vessel sailed in December 2021 and goods were delivered in April 2022.

Disappointing and frustrating....

The collection team was on time and good. After that things went downhill fast. Having been told it would take 6-8 weeks to ship our goods it ended up taking 21 weeks. Updates were slow. One box and a bike rack never turned up and some goods were damaged. We had paid for insurance and filled in the claim form. Having been told our claim had been approved we are still waiting three months later for the settlement payment....it is 13 months since our goods were collected. Moving should not be like this.

We disagree with your statements regarding shipment timelines. You were notified well in advance of timelines and had even signed relevant paperwork confirming this via means of a groupage shipment advice. This was resent to you both on the 3rd June 2021 as per below email trail advice.

The contents for your consignment was viewed & discussed with your partner. You were not present for the viewing survey process whilst Biddulphs was onsite. We advised, on viewing, that it takes a minimum of 8-12 weeks for a consolidation of a Groupage container [ not actual move time ], depending on demand. The goods were collected at end of March 2021.

Your partner sent through a query for a progress update end of April 2021, just a month after collection. You then sent a follow up by calling our sales consultants in anger at the timeframes, etc. We advised what was conveyed to your partner and in writing.

Good Day Mr & Mrs Cartwright

We will be loading the container this week & will be shipping it on the next available vessel which is provisional for next week. The sailing time to the UK is then 17-20 days & another 3-5 days for clearing at port before our destination agent delivers to you. We will advise on the shipping details once we have received confirmation from the shipper.

Please see attached Groupage Advice as requested which was signed & accepted.

I remain frustrated and dismayed by the complete lack of communication from Biddulphs.

At the moment you have our payment, and all the goods we need to work and live and we have just entered week 12 since you collected our goods. I have not heard from you since I took it upon myself to phone you two weeks ago.

I have established that at no point was it communicated to us that having half a container would disadvantage us or provide Biddulphs with an excuse to breach the 6-8 weeks we were informed would be required, and around which we planned our lives.

Please reassure me via email reply that our goods have indeed been shipped and please provide me with an expected arrival date.

Contents docked in the UK mid July 2021 & notice was sent to client by our agents. Unfortunately, due to the new and ever changing on-going shipping crisis globally, contents were taking 2-3 weeks to clear customs at that time. We can confirm there was destination port & demurrage costs invoiced.

Lastly, the insurers are attending to your final settlement payment you have signed release for. We agree that the insurers should be taking this long to process payment and will enquire with their accounts teams. We believe they have had some trouble with the loading of the beneficiary and errors on your SWIFT code which we have asked them to look into and expedite the release of the payment.

We had our goods from UK and ended up with less…

We had our stuff moved from the UK to South Africa and could only verify all the boxes months later. Once verified, we have found 4 complete boxes are missing with expensive equipment in these boxes.
Having gone back and forth with the Biddulphs representative this side, we keep getting told they are verifying with the Office in George.
All boxes were properly numbered and recorded by the UK shipping company before leaving UK. On delivery in SA, the missing box numbers were shown on the delivery note as being delivered by Biddulphs in SA. Once we checked months later, as we could not move to the destination until later, we find 4 boxes non existent and get the run around from Biddulphs. Insurance claim is not possible as they cleverly only allow 7 days to claim. Who can check everything in 7 days anyway?
They even kept asking us if we had another customers 5 boxes in our shipment, yet all our items were apparently marked as delivered with the count being correct. They would have found a discrepency if the process was properly done.
Guess those boxes went elsewhere instead or were stolen. Either way, it's pointless dealing with a company who does not care for your goods.

We are sorry to read of this bad review. Its certainly not the norm at Biddulphs. However, carrying out a few thousand moves a month we do sometimes make mistakes. In this case, it should be straight forward delivering an inbound import shipment from Scotland area.

I can confirm that facts we have at hand is that both Biddulphs and the overseas agents have been in communication with you.

Delivery took place around mid October 2021 to a farm that you were renting. The owner of the property of farm assisted with the offloading process of the container and refused to sign on your behalf as he was not the owner of your goods despite our best efforts to get someone to do this (you were not in the country at the time). This remains your responsibility as the client to ensure if you are not present that adequate arrangements are in place to cater for this and dispute this at the time of delivery or within the acceptable insurance timeframe claim period.

We were informed that you then arranged your own transporter to deliver your goods (not Biddulphs) several months later to your eventual chosen residence around end March 2022.

The agents did inform you that you only have a certain number of days after delivery to lodge a claim as per the insurance or claim term and conditions process.

Biddulphs cannot be held liable or responsible for other transporters moving goods, claims being made and not within timelines as per due diligence and standard best practice.

Absolutely useless removal company….avoid!!!

Myself and my mother had our stuff moved by Biddulphs, her stuff went to Australia and my stuff to the uk. All my moms expensive silverware and a antique table never arrived in Australia. Some paintings and glassware was missing from my move. As both our belongings were stored due to covid, we couldn’t claim for missing/stolen stuff. Customer service stinks! Steer clear of this useless company!

Disappointed

We relocated from South Africa to UK and due to covid and the red list, our boxes arrived long before we were able to get to the UK which meant we were only able to check our contents much later. I later found that my very expensive pair or Jordan's were no where to be seen and were 100% there with the rest of my shoes at packing stage. I brought this this to Biddulphs attention and was told the window of time to raise a claim was passed to which I replied with understanding however covid delayed us getting here to check the boxes and regardless of whether or not we can claim im still very angry and disappointed that my shoes were gone. I was completely ignored after this and my next email was also completely ignored. Clearly they couldn't care less. So disappointed as the service I received in the beginning before the packing was great

Great service from Biddulphs

We recently relocated and made use of Biddulphs (Johannesburg) to do our move. I was extreme impressed at the service we got from them, the team that were loading were very bright and early (before the due time even) to start loading, their service was quick and effective, and they handled every piece of furniture they loaded, with such care like it was one of their own. Even every employee at the office itself, was friendly and helpful and really went out of our way to assist in every special need that we had, to made the move as easy for as as possible.

I am very impressed, as it is rare to find a company where everyone that you are in contact with, will go out of their way to give great service. I can just say WELL DONE BIDDULPHS!! And thank you so much!!
