Do not bring your pet to BluePearl!!

If I could give 0 stars I would. I was referred to this hospital from my vet. I contacted BluePearl before I left my vets office since my vet was closing up as I was leaving. They quoted me on the phone as services starting at $500-$600. I informed them over the phone what was wrong with my puppy and what exactly I was needing. When I got to the location I had to stay in my vehicle and a lady came out to assist. She informed me I was incorrectly quoted even though I told her that I was not planning to hospitalize my pup if the cost was 5k as I could not afford that. She came back out with Marissa whom proceeded to tell me "do you want this dog or do you want a dog" after I informed her that I could not afford 5k to hospitalize my pup. I told her "you can't tell me that, youre making it seem like I dont care for my dog because I don't have the 5k to hospitalize him. My vets office is closed for the day and I have nowhere else to take him can you please provide him with antibiotics, IV and some nausea medication so I can do my best to take care of him at home." She proceeded to tell me that there were other hospitals in the area that started at 2k. I again told her I dont have thousands to hospital my dog with you telling me its a 50% chance of survival. I begged her to take him in and give him an IV, medications and something to make him more comfortable so I can do my best at home to care for him. I explained that my dog was already dehydrated and hadn't really eaten much since Thursday evening (It was Saturday afternoon). She told me that I was not treating his condition and only putting a band aid on his issue and that he would "die anyway" I again begged her to provide the meds and IV and explained that my vet offered this service before I left but when I spoke to someone on the phone, they said it would be 500 to do these things and keep him for at least 1 night. Marissa again refused to give him the IV and instead suggested I euthanize him. I informed her that I was not ready to give up on him yet and that I wanted at the very least the opportunity of a possibility for my puppy. She again refused and told me that I would not be able to care for him and his only chance was the hospitalization, mind you she had not looked at him, or even bothered to take him in for an evaluation, nor did they look at my paperwork for him. She told me that he would bleed from both ends and that it would be a traumatic experience and that I was not able to do these things on my own. She went back inside and called a few foundations after I was crying hysterically that I couldn't afford the cost when she made the comment "do you want this dog or a dog" when she returned she made a point to tell me she called 11 places with no response from any. She then informed me there was a few places she can refer, to put him down possibly for free. I again begged her to do something and informed her there was no way I could decide right now to put him down when I wanted at least a chance to try, my kids had not said their goodbyes yet so there was no way I could decide right then and there. I ended up leaving defeated as she refused to help him and had no lack of sympathy. She even at one point told me that she was sorry to be so blunt but I myself am a blunt person and there is a way to be honest and still respectful and instead I feel like she played on my emotions as a pet owner and decided to deny him care when I drove all the way over for a possible chance for him. If you love your pet do not bring them here. They dont care for anything but money. Now while I understand everything comes with a price the lack of compassion and empathy in this type of field is non-existent at this hospital. They dont treat you like a human being they treat you like a money bag. I was ready to spend at most 1000 to help my pet in some way and she just told me hes gonna die. My pet passed Sunday morning between the hours of 1am-4am. When I called them to take him in for cremation they told me it was $75 for communal creation i wouldnt receive his ashes, or I could pay 300 to receive his ashes. I would have to pay an additional 65 for his ink paw print. When I took him in for the cremation I waited out back with my deceased puppy for over 30mins and had to call them to see why I was waiting out back without anyone coming to help. These people don't care about you or pet. Please take them anywhere else.

Took my 12 year old Dog in after he developed a growth under his chin and already had seen 2 other vets. Took him to the Blue Pearl in Augusta GA. Vets name was Kevin A. Kunkel. He told us that it was not going to be cancer like the 2nd Vet had told us that she thought. So our dog has the surgery. Go for his recheck and it is cancer! Cost us 4 grand that we don't have to help our dog & it is cancer. Will never recommend Blue Pearl!!!

Called to see if they had the equipment needed No Answer over phone

Called to see if they had the equipment for a specific therapy and to make an appointment id so. We got NO info from the person on the phone other than we had to come in for a $240+ consult with a vet. But still no answer if they could do the procedure. As others stated - this is a money driven business, rather than a compassionate vet clinic.
The person was cold, mechanical and I doubt ever was a pet parent. NEVER will go to them or any other one of their "clinics/businesses" They are owned by MARS corp, also Banfield and others

Terrible experience at Blue Pearl in Cary

We were seen at Blue Pearl in Cary, NC for our cat who was losing weight. The internal medicine doctor recommended doing a PARR test, which would be sent to an outside lab, to find a diagnosis. I was told the results could take up to 14 days to receive. After almost a month filled with repeated calls and them saying the results were still “pending”, I still hadn’t received the results. In the meantime my cat was not eating at all and was wasting away. I finally took him to my primary vet, since Blue Pearl wouldn’t help me. She was able to access BP’s records and found that they failed to send off the blood sample for 13 days! By the time we received a diagnosis, more than a month after first taking him to BP, it was too late, the small cell GI lymphoma (which should be easily managed)
had spread to his bone marrow and we had to let him go.

To add insult to injury, afterwards they asked for our feedback, which we willingly gave. During my conversation with the customer relations specialist, I was asked about an outstanding balance of $671. I explained that was for the PARR test which wasn’t sent out for almost 2 weeks and when we finally got the results almost a month later, they were inconclusive, possibly because the blood sample wasn’t viable anymore. BP ultimately refused to waive the cost of the test stating that it was the lab’s fault. The lab never received the test. Of course not, because it was NEVER SENT! I asked to speak to the manager and was told she would call me back. It has now been over 3 months and I have yet to receive a return call, despite follow-up calls and emails.

Honestly, I am not terribly concerned about the money. I am concerned about their lack of transparency and accountability. This practice was recently bought out by BP. Under the former ownership, we always received compassionate, quality, patient centered care. Since BP has taken over, the quality of care has drastically diminished. Their focus is on money, not patients.

Turned a non-life threatening issue into a life threatening issue resulting in death

I brought my dog in to the nyc emergency room for a non-life threatening issue. She's an older dog and has to take many pills both day and night. When she started to turn her nose up at hard/crunchy food, I got concerned. She was still taking her pills in a pill pocket, but my fear was if something worse was wrong it could progress to her not taking her pills which would make matters worse. When we got there she was examined and they said everything looked fine physically. My dog had multiple issues that were all medically managed. Her biggest issue was congestive heart failure, but again it was medically managed by this hospital and the cardiologist was amazed at how well she was responding to the medications. Anyways, they ran blood tests and said her kidney levels were high and there could be multiple reasons for that. The biggest reason could be the heart medications. However, they wanted to keep her overnight and give her some antibiotics in case it was a kidney infection and also put a tube in her to flush out her kidneys. At first I thought it was a bit much seeing as how I thought maybe she was just having dental pain, but I trusted them as I had so often before and relinquished bailey to them. This was the first time I had ever relinquished her without saying goodbye or kissing her which would turn out to be a mistake. The doctors called me in the morning to say they were worried about her because her gums were a muddy brown color indicating she wasn't receiving enough oxygen which was confusing them because she wasn't breathing abnormally. So, they needed to troubleshoot more, but they were worried for her. For the first time, I now became worried too. They said they would support her in whatever way they could and we hung up. 30 mins later the same doctor called me back with an update. She told me, "I'm going to be completely honest with you. Whomever put the tube in Bailey, put it in wrong. They put it in through the trachea. So, fluid has been leaking into to lungs. We are also concerned that since this was done incorrectly that bacteria could've been introduced into her lungs and she might get pneumonia which she may not survive from." I was in complete shock. I brought my dog in for a non-life threatening situation and now you've made it a life threatening situation. They said she was coughing up fluid which was good and they were going to up her dosage of antibiotics in order to stave off any possible infection and would then support her the best way they could. They also said they were going to use the tube to try to suck out some fluid from her lungs. Now, they said, they at least knew why her oxygen levels were low....it was the misplaced tube that was causing it. Now...I'm REALLY worried. 30 mins later I get another call..."unfortunately, we have some bad news. We were attempting to remove the tube from bailey and she passed away. We tried giving CPR, but were unsuccessful in bringing her back." What?!? I was incomplete shock. I raced to the clinic to be with my baby girl one last time. While there, completely heart broken, I asked to speak to one doctor and one administrator. I told them both that I couldn't understand how I bring my dog here because she was having a non-life threatening issue and less than 12 hours later, she's gone. The doctor said that yes the tube was placed incorrectly but it was just a perfect storm of things that occurred that lead to her passing. The administrator said he was sorry and that even though they would never know for sure, that the tube misplacement was likely a contributing factor in her death. Contributing factor? I'm convinced had I not brought my dog to any clinic that night, she would still be here with me today. I was so completely heart broken by what had both happened and by what was said. "We are truly sorry. We are refunding all the payments that you made both last night and today." Thanks. That's great and all, but you can keep the $6,700. I'd rather have my bailey back.

Blue Pearl saved our dog’s life

Our dog was in need of emergency care for ITP, a blood disorder that sees the body’s immune system attack and destroy the blood platelets. The result is no coagulation of the blood and internal bleeding that is terminal if not treated promptly. Dr Roca and the staff at Blue Pearl in Lakewood, CO gave swift and effective treatment for 24 hours, stabilizing our dog. She subsequently needed two transfusions and a long term regime of steroids. Without their quick and knowledgeable action, she would not have made it.

We took our 15 month old dog (Sloan) to…

We took our 15 month old dog (Sloan) to an eye doctor because she had a red eye and swollen glands under her jaw. The eye doctor was “Eye Care for Animals in North Scottsdale”. Immediately the Vet said that my dogs issue was not her eye and that she was very sick. The took a sample of lump under her jaw and sent it off and referred us to the animal hospital next door. This was Blue Pearl Pet Hospital. We were able to get Sloan in the following day and Dr. Sara Ford was able to see our dog. By this time we had received the results back from the sample that was taken, and the Eye care vet said that the sample came back as metastatic cancer. Dr Ford had received the results as they were brought over from the next door vet. Dr Ford looked over our dog and said that she did not believe that our dog had cancer because she was so young and in 30 years of practicing, she had never seen this. She told us that she didn’t believe the lab results that we had. She said that we need to get xrays taken of Sloans head neck and chest and take more samples to send in. If the xrays came back clear then we should have Sloan have a CT Scan. The xrays were negative and we scheduled the CT Scan.
Two days later we took Sloan in and she would need to spend the day in order to get the scan done. We dropped her off at 8:45 am and left for the day. We picked Sloan up that Thursday night and we were told that we will hear back within 24 hours. 48 hours later we had not heard back so we called and we told that they would call us back. 8 hours later we had still not received a call and we called again. I was told that the doctors have rounds and they would call when they get a chance. I asked how long that would be and was told they don’t know. I told them that if I didn’t hear back by 8pm I would stop by to talk to the doctor. Less than 20 seconds later from my call my wife received a call from Dr Ford. Dr Ford went on to explain that the lab they use doesn’t work week ends and that they will not know anything until Monday.
Monday comes and we don’t hear a thing once again. My wife calls and they say they will send the results and have the doctor call. They send the results and they are from Antech lab in Irvine California and the report is the same Thursday that we had our dog tested and Blue Pearl Pet Hospital failed to let us know. The Friday, Saturday and Sunday that Dr Ford ignored the results, the patient and their customer, Sloans health had rapidly declined to the point that both of her sinus canals were blocked, her lymph glands had increased in size and Sloan had not slept in 3 days. Other than the emailed report that I can not read because I am not a vet, I still have not heard from the Hospital or any doctor or any other staff member at Blue Pearl.
At 5:00 pm Monday night I had to put Sloan to sleep!
In my opinion this Hospital is not interested in helping your dog get better. They have doctors like Dr Ford that the only interest is getting you to spend as much money as they can by playing on your heart strings because we love our animals. They want to get every test and diagnosis they can just to make money. I have done some more research in the area and it is my opinion that there are a lot of great animal hospitals close by that you should look around before choosing this one.
We spent $5000 to look after our dog and have still not heard from them.

OKC attempt to bill as much as possible

Took a small dog in , after hours, for a bug for which multiple other dogs in family had been treated. Diarrhea and vomiting. Clearly informed them of treatment given to other dogs that resolved issue ( antibiotic and anti nausea medication). They took my dog to back for several hours and then came out and told me dog needed to be hospitalized overnight at $$$$ due to its condition. I demanded dog be brought back for me to observe. Dog was shaking due to fear but otherwise was alert and happy to see me. I refused hospitalization.

They gave 5 lb dog fluids under skin and sent home meds and saline bag with instructions to give more fluids next day. They had put so much fluid under the skin that it took 5 days for his body to absorb it. I did not administer any additional fluids. Antibiotics I had requested resolved the issue.

Bottom line is they wanted the money for hospitalization and were not looking after the best interest of my fur baby.

BluePearl pet care

My husband and I were traveling in our motor coach when Diana, my 9-year-old female Bombay cat became sick. Fortunately, we were near a pet hospital on Purdue university property in Indiana where Diana was stabilized enabling us to return her to her primary care veterinarian.

Diana’s primary care veterinarian reviewed the hospital reports, completed an examination and additional tests, then determined an ultrasound was needed for further diagnosis. Since the primary care office does not have ultrasound capability, Diana was referred to BluePearl for the ultrasound and specialist perspective.

Once the ultrasound and examination by the specialist were complete, we asked for a care conference comprised of the specialist, the primary care veterinarian, and us. BluePearl refused. BluePearl would send the test results to the primary care; however, there would not be a team effort. Our choice was to be a BluePearl customer or not.

We met with the BluePearl veterinarian and asked questions until we understood all he said regarding the surgery he recommended. Surgery would be exploratory to investigate an inflamed and possibly infected bile duct to determine if the cause was cancer and what corrective procedures may be appropriate. We asked about an investigative procedure the primary care veterinarian had considered, a needle biopsy. We suggested guiding by ultrasound. The BluePearl veterinarian dismissed the approach. Concurrently, he emphasized the surgery he wanted us to authorize was not to resolve a known condition. He made sure we understood the surgery had a less then twenty-five percent probability to save Diana’s life. He also made sure we understood, either authorize surgery for ten thousand dollars followed by a possible minimal five thousand aftercare, or take our cat from BluePearl.

After our prolonged “near begging”, the BluePearl veterinarian agreed to 24 to 48 hours of IV medication requiring hospitalization. Diana’s primary care veterinarian suggested an additional 24 hours of in hospital monitoring after removal from IV medication because it is good medical care practice; care the primary care office could not provide because it is a small practice and not staffed for after hour care or emergencies. The BluePearl veterinarian refused and released Diana.

BluePearl provided six Rx medications and a written prescription when Diana was released to us. Many hours after we had returned Diana home, we received a phone call from a compounding pharmacy affiliated with BluePearl. They had an eighth prescription from BluePearl. While seeking clarification of the nature of the prescription, it became evident the location of the pharmacy selected by BluePearl was over an hour from our home. BluePearl had never asked us about a compounding pharmacy of our choice. It is understandable that many patrons of BluePearl may not understand the nature of a compounding pharmacy; however, I clearly made my status of Dr. repeatedly known to each BluePearl employee. I had the BluePearl pharmacy transfer the Rx to my local compounding pharmacy.

When we left BluePearl with Diana, the technician provided extensive outpatient instructions including instructions to call for Rx refills when needed.

Today, we phoned BluePearl for Rx refills and were told the veterinarian had left written instructions to deny our request and to refer us to the primary care veterinarian.

I reminded BluePearl of the fact Diana’s primary care office is too small for after hour and weekend response. I asked to speak with a BluePearl vet. My request was denied.

Every step of our BluePearl experience exposed a primary issue of financial profit rather than care. There was no regard or professional perspective of the primary care veterinarian who knows the pet and the pet’s family. BluePearl veterinarians have no bed-side manner and corporate policy appears to ignore respect for the customer.

Future care of our pets will include every conceivable effort to avoid subjecting them to BluePearl profit motivated care.

My 11 month old kitten was very sick…

My 11 month old kitten was very sick and I was concerned she wouldn't make it through the night so I took her to the only 24 ER closest to me in Brandon. I was expecting more from a place that is being trusted to care for our pets. I'm the only one at the front desk, waiting for one of the two receptionist to acknowledge me which neither did until I said "hello". Filling out the paperwork I questioned what the required deposit amount is as it doesn't state the amount on the form. FYI, it's $150. Like most people I can't afford it, but our pets are our family and we'll do what we have to. We finally get called back. The vet tech I didn't care for completes the intake. She takes my cat back for vitals. As I'm sitting waiting, I swear this tech literally comes busting through the door sticking her head in, talking incredibly fast about needing my permission to either resuscitate or DNR my cat. As a pet owner when you take them in, you're not thinking they're dying. I'm trying to process this information, the tech kept repeating herself still talking fast. I finally said resuscitate her. Apparently there's an extra cost for that because they sent someone else to let me know. Every time they would tell me the cost, I would tell them I can't afford it which their response was always "the doctor will be in to talk to you". Sadly I had to make one of the hardest decision and had her put down. I was devastated and was there for her final moments but of course they wanted to make sure to take my payment before they brought in my cat to say my final goodbye. I pray to God I don't ever have to use this place ever again. They did not ease my pain in any way, but they got their money. I have two other friends who had to use this place and had horrible experiences. They to didn't have much of chose either because they couldn't wait the next day to see their actual vet and this is the only animal ER in our area.

If I could give no stars here I would

If I could give no stars here I would. We took our 12-year-old dog here knowing it was probable that we would have to put her to sleep. It was a weekend, so this was not our normal vet office. Unfortunately, we were correct and did have to put her to sleep that day. We requested a private cremation for many reasons and even went as far as explaining to the vet and staff our plans for her ashes. We paid for this additional service, and we were told in 2 weeks we would have her remains. Two weeks came and I hadn't heard from them about picking up the ashes. I called in to ask and immediately knew something was wrong. They were being very vague and kept putting me on hold to finally say the manager wasn't here and they would call me tomorrow. Come to find out, they put the wrong "tag" on her, and she was cremated in a "group" and her ashes were supposedly spread in a field. We were gutted. They were indifferent and had an attitude like, "Oh well, mistakes happen." To make matters worse I requested her medical records because now I was questioning everything. As I started reading them the inaccuracies were everywhere. All of the notes they wrote were wrong and it made me feel like either they don't listen or pay attention...or care. Nothing made sense. People bring their pets here because they are parts of your family. My husband and I had her for the entirety of our relationship. To be just told, "Whoops" was beyond upsetting. The way they handled everything was horrible and insensitive. They wouldn't answer our calls or emails. The worst service I have ever experienced. How can you trust someone with your pet if they cannot even put the correct tag on an animal.

$200 to walk in front door

My dog recently had a surgery at my primary clinic. On the weekend we ran out of pain meds so I took him to Blue Pearl to get a refill, since they are the only emergency clinic in my area.

I was charged $200 for a 3 minute exam for the vet to tell me my dog is in discomfort. I already knew that he was in discomfort which is why I brought him in to go through the motions and have a vet look at him before getting the refill. The exam was 3 minutes long and was nothing more than a formality to get a refill of the pain medication.

Blue Pearl cares more about money and profits than anything else. $200 to walk in the door is absurd.

If I could give negative stars I most…

If I could give negative stars I most certainly would. This place does not care at all about any of the animals that they see. I run a rescue of 18 years and am a 35 year vet tech myself. The staff is rude and uncaring, only trying to cover their mistakes and talking to people like they are stupid. We sent a dog here for emergency care, he had been hit by a car and the shelter called us for help, we picked him up and took him straight to them. They did xrays and gave him a shot for pain. The vet, Dr. Esther Schow told me that they would send a prescription for Gabapentin 100 mg and they did, but we discussed AT LENGTH sending him home with Carprofen for PAIN, but they FORGOT to put i in his bag!!!!!!! AN EMERGENCY VET CLINIC FORGOT PAIN MEDS!!! I called when we got home and realized this...and Jennifer was just about the rudest person I have encountered since starting our rescue 18 years ago dealing with veterinary practices all over this country!!! She was more worried about covering up the mistake than the pain the dog was in. I asked to speak to Dr. Schow but was denied!!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE IF YOU LOVE HIM/HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very uncaring staff

On 7/9 my Pomeranian puppy injured her front paw while we were camping. She would not put any pressure on it and would cry out and bite at me when ever I tried to examine it. I thought she might have a fracture. I called all three Blue Pearl's around my location to see what the wait times were to be seen. When I spoke with the Lee Summit location they very rudely told if I was calling in to ask about the wait time then it must not be an emergency. I ended up taking her to the Northland location. When I arrived I was told it would be an approximately 5-6 hr wait. She was crying and in alot of pain so I asked if they could give her some pain medicine while we waited. The tech said she would have them assess her and give her pain medicine. About an hour later they still hadn't brought her back to me so I asked the tech again if she had been given pain medicine and she seemed very put off that I was bothering her and said she would check. Another hour and still no update so I asked the tech again if she had gotten the pain medicine and if she could bring her back to me so I could hold her while we waited. She said she had gotten the pain medicine and was resting comfortably. She then put me in a room. The room had not been cleaned. There was urine on the floor and dog hair all over the seats. I have pictures if interested. I waited in the room another 2 hrs, with no updates. Everytime I tried to get an update the staff was very rude and acted like I was bothering them. Finally 5 hrs later the vet came in to talk to me. She had finally evaluated her and recommended an X-ray. I asked if she had been given any pain medicine and she said no. But they would give her some prior to the x-ray. I was very upset that I had been lied to. They took my dog from me for 5 hours who was in pain and scared and stuck her in a cage and didn't give her anything for the pain. I could of held her and comforted her during the wait. I was given no updates and when I tried to ask I felt like I was bothering the staff and was talked to rudely. I'm a nurse and I work in a busy clinic and we are also short staffed. I understand about long wait times and how frustrating it can be. I would never treat my patients or their family members with such a lack of compassion and caring no matter how busy I was. I have had dogs all my life and many vet visits and emergency visits with them and I can say this was the worst experience I have ever had. I will never take my dog to the BluePearl Kansas City Northland location again or any BluePearl for that matter.

My vet was closed, I was told to take my dog to Blue Pearl. So I did, Snoopy had thrown up bile that morning, then he threw up on and off during the day. I realized after thinking about it that he was not able to hold down even water and had throw up 10 times on through out the day. When we got him to Blue Pearl they took him to the back to access him..... They took me to a room and I sat there and waited. When I turned around and looked back out to the waiting room they had given my dog to the person that I came in with who is a friend of mine ..... But Hello, they should have talked to me to let me know something. We waited .... the staff was busy ordering food telling me it could be a few hours before we could be seen. So we sat there for 3 hours. They said nothing this whole time. I went back up and told them that Snoopy had thrown up two more times while we had been there. they didn't care. Just have a seat! I asked so are you trying to tell me that we could end up sitting here until Midnight and still may not be seen! they were like well yea ... they were NOT that busy, they said Snoopy was NOT Critical! He had thown up 12 times. I left and brought my dog home and started to look for another place to take him. By this time he now had BLOOD coming out of his Butt. I rushed him to the next 24 hr Vet and they instantly took him and got a IV in him my dogs level of dehydration was at 70 and normal is 40! So yes, Blue Pearl my dog was Critical and all the time you had me sitting there waiting he was getting worse! I called to tell you what happened and you had NO care and you did not own up to what you did and what you put us all through. You even tried to justify that you gave my dog to the person I came in with was (name of a former boyfriend) like you telling me that you gave my dog to him was you covering your butt. Again your lack of even saying are you (name of the ex?) to make sure they were giving my dog to the owner of the dog! All around BAD experience. They should not accept patients if they do not have a VET to look at the animals that were coming in and you were not that busy but yet said you had a CRITICAL cat in the back and we just had to wait! What is Critical to you? A bone poking out, did Blood coming out of my dogs butt make your "critical" list ? The 24 hr vet I took my dog to .... they were doing surgery on a pet at 10:00 p.m. and they had the staff to take care of my dog and me. I got to spend the night there with my dog ! Do NOT take a Turnip to Blue Pearl they would let it dry up and die!

Do not go here

Do not go here! If your vet refers you, demand another place! i had to go get for an ultrasound and the vet, the tech, the check out person, were all non caring, way less than empathetic for your pet, and just want to rubber stamp your paper work so you can go to check out and give your credit card to a less than empathetic, non caring check out person. Worst veterinary experience I have EVER had- DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!

My dog was sick my sister called the…

My dog was sick my sister called the hospital and they took her name, my name, and my dogs name. told her if i could be there within the hour they would take me. got there and they acted like they never heard from my sister or me and refused to take my dog. i thought a 24 hour vet hospital should never turn a animal away. never will i go to the one in southfield.
