I placed two orders for pre-order special edition books in March and April of 2025. I kind of forgot all about them until I started seeing social media posts of other people receiving the books. I log... See more

Try harder or something
I don’t even read books, but I have a friend who ordered an expensive special edition copy of a book from BAM like almost a year ago (like 10 months now) and she has contacted customer service politely asking for some help time and time again. She has not received a shrivel. Well, if you count empty promises as good customer service, then maybe I’m wrong. I am leaving this review for her. I hate Books-A-Million. I didn’t before. But I do now. Rot.
Also, I would love if you guys had an official place to review. I am realizing you do not because apparently, according to this website, this is an overall issue. Please grow a pair.
Powerless merch letdown
I always knew BAM existed, but it wasn’t until Lauren Roberts partnered with them for a collab that I was interested in what they had to offer. I ordered several things from the merch drop back at the beginning of April (04.04.25), then followed up with support per email and the chat option over the last few months. There are still 3 items missing from my initial order, which consisted of a total of 5 items. Basically more than half my order is still nowhere to be seen and nobody I ask knows what is going on with the shipments or manufacturers. Not only that, but I get a “Order Status Update” every month telling me the same thing: No new information!!!
I already struggled and got annoyed at the way the website was setup, not being able to look at any of the pictures they have for items and the general process of ordering. However I thought things would be okay once I simply receive what I ordered. Clearly I was wrong.
Nowhere on their social media are there any updates regarding the collab or for shipments involving it. Their online support is an absolute waste of time, unless you use the chat option and get an actual person on the line, but even then they can’t help out either. I wrote out my concerns in an email before I had tried the chat and they gave me an automated answer separated into three emails for every item missing (even though I didn’t make three tickets..?) and THEN ASKED FOR A SUPPORT RATING?
Anyway, while I think going to a BAM store could be fun, I urge people not to order from them online, especially if it’s a pre-order situation as mine was.
Membership Fees!!
I have been purchasing books on Amazon for years and wanted to try a different source. I pre-ordered a book for a book club I am in from Books-a-Million just as I would from Amazon. My credit card was charged. Three months later when the book was shipped, my card was charged again. Membership fees with auto renewal? Not for me. I asked for refund but have yet to hear back from them. I make a point to avoid online offers that require online subscriptions and memberships -- This one was sneaky.
I bought a deluxe edition of a book…
I bought a deluxe edition of a book that was showing available on the website, after waiting two weeks I contacted customer service and was told it was on “backorder” and then when I asked if I would be mailed the deluxe Edition I was told yes,and then when I asked if they are sure because the stock picture had changed to the regular copy with no sprayed edges they answered me like I was dumb and said “that’s just a picture” so I didn’t order the book anywhere else because I was told I had the correct one getting sent to me. I got it today and it was wrong I reached out to customer service and got an “it’s limited edition and sold out, sorry” this is a ridiculous response after I have emails back and forth where it was verified that I had the correct copy and they didn’t really care at all how I felt sooo… won’t be doing that again.

DO NOT ORDER ONLINE
Worst experience I think I have ever had ordering a book. I purchased a book collection listed as In-Stock on their online website. After 3 weeks I still have only received some of them. I contacted the support in order to look into this and they state that they are on backorder. I was never notified of this and looking at the books that are claimed to be backordered on their website they state that they could be shipped same day and that they are currently in-stock. I will never purchase from this site again waste of time and money, would have rather just bought them off another site and saved my energy.

My daughter bought a toy at BAM and walked out with a monthly subscription to National Geographic. She’s 14! I don’t know how this is acceptable and I want to cancel the subscription. There have been 9 transactions!!! I have called sent customer support, sent messages, emails and I am getting the run around. How is it legal for their employees to force a child into subscribing to a magazine subscription. She didn’t know what to do or say because they were pushing it on her.
Cancels order without regret
My personal experience with this company left me nothing short of disappointed.
They cancelled my order without notifying me...
I ordered Pokemon cards through their website almost 2 weeks ago. A lot of others who ordered from them immediately had their orders cancelled so I assumed my order was still on track to be shipped eventually. The payment on my credit card still showed up as pending for more than a week, and on their own site the order STILL shows up as pending shipment. Upon checking my credit card statement today I realized the payment was cancelled. I was never notified via email or anything from Books-A-Million that this has occurred. What a joke of a business! I
Magazine Scam
They have some sort of magazine subscription scam going on, if you visit one of these stores be weary, won't be back ever again.
I have read the reviews
I have read the reviews, and they are horrible! I have ordered numerous times from Books a Million and had not one problem with them.

Orders cancelled numerous times
They've cancelledy our orders on 3 seperate occasions. I've reached out to their customer service multiple times and it's been weeks with not a single response. My kids have been anticipating for these cards and we've chosen not to purchase them elsewhere as it was ordered here. Horrible that they'd take purchases even without physical product in inventory.
I purchased a bible for my…
I purchased a bible for my granddaughter for Christmas from the Ponte Vedra, Florida Books a Million store. It is two months later and the pages of the bible are falling out. I went to the store today to exchange for another bible and was told that I could not do so since I wrote in the bible. I wrote my name, my granddaughters name and Christmas 2024. Since I wrote in the bible, they cannot place back on the shelf. The bible is defective and should not have gone back on the shelf anyway. I am a Books a Million Club member and shop there often. The sales person didn't care and just let me know that there is nothing that she can do. I feel this is very poor customer service and I am very disappointed in this response. I still purchased another bible from this store but I feel that this was a very poor decision on thier part and I will probably find another store to purchase my books.
Deceptive webstore.
I feel as though the listings for their books are rather deceptive. They will add a description if the book is a special edition (sprayed edges, first printing, signed, collectible etc) but they do not always list these items separately so the buyer is unsure of what they will receive. I had ordered a special sprayed edged version of a book. The description stated it was sprayed for the first printing, but they failed to disclose that edition was actually sold out and I was going to receive a plain hardcover. The book came in fine condition. (Although not the edition I was expecting to receive.) I contacted customer service and they took very long to respond and were very unhelpful and rude when responding. I have always heard the physical stores are great, not sure as there are not any near me but I will happily shop elsewhere for affordable books, with accurate listings/descriptions and kind customer service.
Do not ever purchase from them. They steal your money
Do not ever purchase from this company! THEY STEAL YOUR MONEY. I purchased a collectible book. Came damaged. Sent it back and received a replacement that was even more damaged. I'm talking edges of the pages looking like it was cut by box cutters. Don't know why they thought such a damaged would be appropriate to be sent out to their customer. Sent replacement back for refund. Refund was not processed for 3 weeks post confirmed delivery through USPS tracking. I contacted live chat and they said refund is approved and being processed. Refund, in fact, was not processed. I contacted them again 2 months later through live chat. Customer service rep says they never processed the refund and that they need to confirm receipt of item with warehouse. 2 months and no refund. I'm not holding my breath and I'm not expecting them to get their shit together at this point. Lesson learned
Horrible maddening experience
This was the most absurd experience I have ever had when trying to order something. Zero customer service for many hours, then when I finally spoke to someone they were rude and unhelpful. The amount of time I wasted dealing with Books a Million was maddening.
What a horrible company
What a horrible company. Buy from Amazon or Barnes Noble. I purchased a tresure hunting book that was time sensitive and their website said available and would receive it by Xmas or the day after. It's now the New Year and their reply email was another week plus shipping time.
It's their scam to tell you they have it available, when they don't hoping to string you along after you paid for it. IF IT SAYS AVAILABLE, ITS PROBABLY NOT.
HAD TO SIT ON THE FLOOR
I. Visited the new San Marcos TX After circling the shelves for 20 minutes pulling books to evaluate for gifts.. I sought out a place to sit to read the covers and blurbs to decide which ones worked. BUT THERE WAS NO WHERE TO SIT EXCEPT ON THE FLOOR
SO I PUT THE PILE ON THE FLOOR AND WALKED OUT.
Guess I'll go back to Barnes and Noble.
Order hasn’t arrived in 17 days
Placed an order 12/6/24 and it says it shipped 12/12/24. Then tracking stopped on 12/19/24. Cannot get any help or responses from the company. This was my son’s big Christmas gift and is sold out everywhere. Very frustrated and upset as tomorrow is Christmas Eve and I won’t have this item.
no cancellation notification
Order a Christmas gift. When Checking a week later to see if my order shipped there was an order cancelled notation on their site next to the order. No notifications on the cancellation were sent to me although they had my email address. Buyer beware.
BEWAre!
BEWAre!! Terrible company. Will NEVER order from them again. Absolutely terrible. I ordered a $150 item from them on the 9th of December for my daughters Christmas gift.. They Cancelled my order without notifying me whatsoever on the 15th.. A WEEK later! No explanation, No Email, Nothing... Just cancelled .. Now I have to Reorder Elsewhere a week before christmas. Pathetic.
