I placed two orders for pre-order special edition books in March and April of 2025. I kind of forgot all about them until I started seeing social media posts of other people receiving the books. I log... See more

Can't refund after three months
I ordered a book that was out of stock three months prior and was fine with waiting as I couldn't find it anywhere else. Then I check the site a couple months later and notice the book went back in stock. I checked my order but it hadn't updated so I decided to cancel the whole order. Apparently the site doesn't allow you to cancel an order that is pending despite the fact it has been for the past 3 months. I am now out of 25 bucks and customer support won't get back to me,
Ordered a book that says earliest ship…
Ordered a book that says earliest ship date is the 27th. Well now my order is cancelled saying unavailable yet the website shows earliest ship date is the 20th so a week earlier than my order. What kind of scam are y'all running?
Poor service, deceptive website
Took forever for the books to even get shipped, despite the claim of 3-5 day delivery (which wasn't free even)...Terrible customer service, they never really answer a question just quote the company line and link their email to a different website like, you don't even know who you work for? unbelievable.
Dreadful experience - do not do business with this company!
Dreadful experience. I ordered a calendar that their website said was in a nearby store that I could pick up. They took my money, then almost immediately sent me an email saying the calendar was not in the store, and I should either pay for it to be delivered or drive to another "nearby" store. The next nearest store is over an hour away so that is not an option. Nowhere in their email was the option of a refund, or - hey! - even the offer to deliver it to me at no extra cost, given they had taken my money for something they apparently knew was not available in the store. I then had a live chat, where I informed their customer service agent that their website still said that store had stock. She said when the website says "limited stock", the BAM definition of this can be anything from limited stock to no stock. Actually, when I ordered it said it had two calendars - which in my book means you have two calendars to sell in that location. I was then advised that the money should "usually" be released in 7-10 business days, but that I might also have to seek a refund after two weeks. Great - I was hoping someone would take my money right before Christmas and then tell me I could have it back in two weeks, or even have to claim it back after that. Why would a company place a hold on my money for something it had no intention of delivering as promised? Why lie about your stock? Two means two - NOT none! BAM doesn't seem to be aware they are one of many, many companies people can choose to do business with - they have certainly lost my custom!
Oh, and the best part was that - to say sorry - they sent me a coupon for 10% off. Which is meaningless, given that I can find a 15% off coupon online. Thanks for trying to charge me even more than I would pay as an apology for tying up my money and wasting my time.
Nonexistent customer support
Ordered three books. They shipped separately. First two arrived after 2 weeks. Slow, but they arrived. It is four weeks and counting on the third. Ordered 29 Nov for Xmas. When you click on the support links on their website, a blank white screen appears. The only option to contact them was by live chat. There was no live answer. It returned generic support articles and suggested I send a message. Waiting for an answer, but not holding my breath.

Is Books-A-Million at Coastal Grand Mall A Scam?
No Books-A-Million at Coastal Grand Mall is not a Scam.
However there is literally only one helpful employee in the entire place, and the service is the worst I've had at any type of store.
One time, I looked around for an hour for a specific title, and not once did anyone offer to help me find it despite there being tons of people working and me clearly not finding what I need. That's ok, I am self sufficient.
I went back the next day to try again to find what I was looking for, and was looking in various sections.
Again no one offered to help despite me wandering all over the store and there being plenty of employees working.
I visit frequently, but it took several weeks for someone to ask me if I wanted to sign up for a membership. This is the one good employee they have as far as I can tell.
Another time I was looking at collectibles and a guy that works there walked in front of me, literally between me and the shelves, and starts straightening them, and told me to just "let him know" if he was in my way.
The manager doesn't care at all about customers, it seems like he more interested in straightening shelves and chatting with employees.
So reluctantly I am going to start going elsewhere despite this being convenient and having a good selection.
Outstanding Service
Outstanding Service! I have ordered multiple times from Books-A-Million and I continue to receive outstanding service from this company! I highly recommend.

Went into the Coastal Grand Mall BAM today. Found a book I had been looking for called Foxfire. Was told a price by a staff member stocking at back of store. Price did not match at register. Questioned price and register personnel would not call for price override. Tried to sell me MEMBERSHIP CLUB as well. C Young.
Spam emails by the hundreds
Immediately after purchasing a book, my email inbox was flooded with spam emails and they just keep coming; they must've sold my email to hundreds of spam companies. Thanks a lot.

There deals they advertise are very misleading. They had a company wide buy 2 get the 3rd free mix n match deal instore or online. This was true for there store locations but for online they made it so it is only certain titles they will allow the deal even though you could get the exact same books in store and get the deal. No where do they have it advertise either that it is select titles. This was very disappointing and lost out on a big deal since the closest store to me is over 3 hours away

Been to their store in Bradenton, FL. Helpful staff, good variety of books and magazines.

Absolute worst customer service in the industry. My first order, the book literally fell out of the package in transit. The second order they canceled without contacting me, it's like they don't even want to sell books. This company is in the business of frustration and annoyance, you'll never actually see a book from them.

Went in to buy a book
Went in to buy a book, I already knew what I wanted so it wasn’t going to take but two minutes of myself walking in, grabbing it, and paying but I did not purchase the book today and will most likely just order it from Amazon because I understand that you close the Beckley, WV store at 8pm but it was 7:40pm when I walked in, the younger girl with long black hair didn’t even let me get into the door without rudely telling me in exact words “just so you know we’re locking our doors in twenty minutes so get what you need and let’s go” I came in for one single book and would have been gone but it was very obvious that she didn’t want to make a sale, she just wanted to leave. So you can count me out going into this store as long as she is there. I do not like to be rushed in general but she made me feel rushed and completely unwanted, when I walk into a store I’m about to spend my money in I would at least like to feel like I’m wanted. A simple “hello, welcome to BAM we are closing our doors in twenty minutes.” would’ve been pretty nice but it’s clear that’s not what your customers are going to get so you can count me out as one. As long as she is there my business will go somewhere else. Have a great day.
Great Experience!
After seeing the reviews for Books-A-Million, I got a bit worried that maybe I wouldn't receive my order. I thought about cancelling it, but I had also seen that the customer service was not good. So all I could do was hope for the best. Thankfully, this wasn't the case. I ordered three books with their buy two, get one free deal and none were cancelled. All my books were available and shipped three days after the purchase date. A week later, I received my package in the mail. The box wasn't damaged, nor were the books, considering they made a trip from Alabama to California. Overall, I had a great experience and will definitely order in the future.
I ordered a book and AFTER I paid I was…
I ordered a book and AFTER I paid I was told they would let me know when they would have it ready to ship from the distributor. That was a month ago. I tried to call customer service and the robot sent me in circles. I tried to write customer service at the designated email, and immediately got an email back saying that their server had automatically sent my message to spam. I understand that supply chains are a mess at the moment, but this customer service is ridiculous. I won’t be shopping with this company again.
This is a TERRIBLE business
This is a TERRIBLE business. Says books are in stock, then after you pay, notify you it will take 6 months to year to get them. Three months in waiting, they cancel your order with no notice. Then, they ship you books from your cancelled order and charge you again. When you try to cancel the 6-month-old fraudulent order, it will not let you log into the website, no matter how many times you reset your password. They outsource customer service, and when you send them an email trying to fix the situation, they NEVER respond. Then, after a month of trying to get book returned, they want you to pay for the shipping TO YOU and BACK for their mistake. This place should be avoided at all costs...it is a complete scam!
books are easy to find
books are easy to find, easy to read, but there are not all books, I would like more books
Relaxing book shopping
This store has some of the best atmosphere for book reading and browsing. With friendly and knowledgeable staff it is a win win to shop here! 10/10
Don't waste your money
I had to wait over a week for my refund because they were withholding it and then they tried saying that it was my bank when in fact I had an email stating that I never got a refund, MY BANK HAD TO START A DISPUTE OVER THE CHARGE CUZ YOU NEVER REFUNDED ME
so I tried purchasing my item online that same day that I tried buying it in store and it said that they didn’t have it in store (even though it said it was available in store)
The day I ordered it said it was in stock for shipping now all of a sudden it’s on back order😂
