Excellent service

Order came in good time, but unfortunately damaged in transit and we had to refuse it. Informed the company who came back, straight away, to say they were sending a replacement by express delivery. Excellent customer service. You can't fault them.

The orders was very prompt

The orders was very prompt. Only the service would be better if customers could leave instructions for leaving deliveries eg to neighbours or behind the bins.

Called the number on their website on many occasions and no one picked up the phone. I needed some advice and in the end I purchased the item anyway but have little confidence in their customer services

Hi Mr Azizahmad

Thanks for taking the time to feed back your experience of dealing with Bridgewater Garden Supplies. We value all feedback - good and bad.

We are a relatively small specialist business. As such there is not always someone in the office. There is the facility to leave a message and we regularly check both our phone messages and emails, and endeavor to return calls and respond to emails as promptly as we can. Helping our customers make the right choices is important to us. In light of your comments, we will change our answerphone message to encourage people to leave messages when we are not able to answer the phone at first point of contact.

Thanks again for your feedback.

Excellent products

Excellent products - excellent service.

However, I think the website could provide more detail for amateur gardeners especially on how to apply the products. For instance, I bought a tub of compost accelerator but I needed more guidance on its application. How does this dry power interact with water, for example. Indeed can it work at all if the compost consists largely of dry vegetation (rather than mushy wet kitchen waste)? And if it does require wetness or dampness, is there an ideal level for that liquid element?
A bit of guidance like that on the website would be very helpful.
Otherwise I'm happy to be a Bridgewater customer. And I'm a journalist so I can be very dissatisfied on the slightest pretext!

Hi Martin

Thanks for your review. I think your point about product detail and application advice is a valid one, particularly for some products. We are currently working on a series of product specification sheets, which customers will be able to download from the product page on our website. Hopefully these should be available in the next couple of weeks.

The compost activator product you purchased will need moisture to release the product's nutrients - particularly the Nitrogen. The nutrient availability in your compost bin/heap will then begin to stimulate the microbial activity that will speed up the composting process and also help release nutrients in your composted material to produce a better quality end product. Applying some water when the product is applied would be the ideal scenario. That way the compost will be kept damp enough for product to work effectively. Is there an ideal level for the liquid element? I would say that as long as the compost is damp, but not wet or saturated, that would be the ideal.

Hope this helps.

Hi Baffour,

We are very sorry to hear that your tomato plants have died subsequent to using our tomato fertiliser.

Assuming that all other growing conditions were correct there is really no reason why, if applied correctly and as per the instructions on the label, that our 'Soluble Tomato Fertiliser' should have damaged your plants. On the product label it states that the fertiliser is a 'fully soluble horticultural fertiliser'. Because it is fully soluble the nutrients (NPK 22-7-22 + Trace Elements) are immediately available to the plant. This is the perfect scenario for plant and fruit development. However, if over-fed, the plants can be damaged through a process of 'super-enrichment' - i.e. they can 'overdose' on excessive nutrients. It 's difficult to be certain with the limited information I have, but this could be the reason your tomato plants died .

The fertiliser should be mixed at a ratio of 2 grams per litre of fresh water, and plants should be fed once a week or once a fortnight, so a little fertiliser will go a long way. If you do plan to use the product again, hopefully, this will help.
