Tried to hire a lawnmower after using their service for years but got told I am banned 🫢

For expressing my opinion about moody Margaret. I mean I was more than tactful last time but what I really should have said is the owners and most of the 'mature' staff are all bloody racist. I only put up with their pathetic customer service because I needed the lawnmower but since discovered Smiths and their tools and customer service is a 100 times better.

Used a few times over the years. Had a really strange experience recently where the owner started getting aggressive. I had a tool (Stihl saw) stolen from directly outside my house. I was devastated, me and my family have been on edge ever since. They kept the £150 deposit which I fully accepted. The kit was far from new. I'd reported to the police, showed the employees the footage when bringing back the remaining tools & even emailed them to give further information...those that have been robbed before know how awful it feels, especially from right outside your door. I went back a few weeks later for a tool & no questions asked I used the kit and returned... however this time the owner refused me and said I owe him £600 and that "we needed to come to some sort of arrangement". I couldn't believe it really as no one had tried to contact me or detail anything about an "arrangement". I said surely you are insured as a hire company, he stated that he can't afford to insure his business and I still owe him. Gob smacked, I decided to leave due to things getting heated...he proceeded to follow me out of the door and carry on being aggressive.

I reminded him that I had been a victim of crime and that his employees had failed to inform me of any requirements for an arrangement, despite having my contact details. I also raised my concern and confusion as to how a business loaning tools isn't insured. All very confusing and strange. Yes they are cheap and I've not had issues in the past but clearly if you are a victim of crime and you have one of their tools stolen there is clearly no sympathy or compassion...he (the owner) did all but accuse me of stealing it...as I said, I had the footage, crime number and had forwarded this on via email. The owner said he hadn't read the email...just a weird carry on. Maybe pay a little more and use someone else. I said I won't be using them again and he said "good" so I guess the feeling was mutual.

At short notice, I needed a good quality driller to use with a core drill to make a 4" hole for an extractor fan. The National companies seemed to want as much as for buying one.
And then, I found a listing for Burnley Hire Centre. What a find! Loads of equipment for rent. No gimmicks, no fuss, just great equipment at great prices. One phone call to reserve what I needed, and even without a trade account, I picked it up next day within 5 minutes.
At pick-up, there were no hidden extras, just a quick run through with Calvin to confirm I knew how to use it safely (and had my own safety equipment).
Next day return process with Matt was equally straightforward, and their hire rates are realistic.
I will be recommending Burnley Hire Centre to family and friends, and WILL use them again.
