Chichester branch reopened-lovely…

Chichester branch reopened-lovely breakfast!
My partner and I were so pleased when the Chichester branch reopened. We visited this morning for coffee, pastry and juice. They have retained their staff and their usual pleasant breezy atmosphere, and as usual, the service and consumables were great. Covid safety measures were in place without it feeling too alien, which is no mean feat!
So glad they are back and we will be visiting again very soon!

Just great A+

Just great. Always helpful. Good food.

Any time I've ever had a problem with my food, they've always remade it for me with no fuss.

Highly recommended.

Snappy Staff at Carluccio's at Smithfields

Tonight my partner and I ate at Carluccio's Smithfield. I have eaten there many times, but I won't be eating at Carluccio's again! We ordered from the three-course menu. The choice my partner made was not available. He asked if he could have a few minutes to choose a new option. I went over to the waiter to give the new choice. As our starter came, so did his main. We said we wanted the mains together after the starter. After we'd finished the starter, they brought his main again. When my partner pointed out that my main had not come, the waiter denied I had ordered one. My partner got upset, and the waiter raised his voice and stormed off. I went over to get the manager, and the two other staff were also rude - having already spoken to their colleague. The waiter had gone outside to tell the manager what had happened from his point of view, so when the manager came in, he was decidedly prickly with me, saying, "What is the problem, Madam!" It was not until I was firm about what had happened that he saw that his member of staff had made a mistake. I ended up cancelling our desserts, as I did not feel like eating anything else in the restaurant. I don't like being bullied by the staff in very mediocre restaurants! I'm sure Antonio Carluccio would be rolling in his grave.

Chichester - Opera Night

Yet another fantastic evening at Carluccios in Chichester yesterday for the Opera Night.

Three amazing singers and pianist provided a broad range of operatic and a couple of more popular songs, lovely explanation putting the song into context before singing and lovely interaction between the singers and audience.

The food was beautiful, canapes, extravagant sharing platter, main and a dessert to die for (white chocolate and chocolate orange mousse this time).

Attentive staff and a lovely, friendly atmosphere.

We visited Canary Wharf branch this…

We visited Canary Wharf branch this afternoon. Really disappointing when place is half empty, no one is actually greeting you, and when we decided to take a seat on our own, we were told off by the member of staff (blond girl, we were told after she was a sort of part of management) & and what we did, just asked for menu, but it looks to get a menu we needed to be seated by member of staff - but if no one is actually greeting you .....when the place is empty....its just annoying ...and frustrating especially when we came to celebrate international women's day.

On a bright side - Medi (asian guy, I don't know if the name is spelled correctly, he was brilliant)

Food poisoning

I attended Carluccio's York restaurant with my employers for a three course meal at 2:30pm on Friday 20th December 2019. We were seated on the first floor of the restaurant. I ordered from the Christmas menu and ordered Fritto Miso as a starter, Lobster Risotto as a main and Torta Al Mandarino as a dessert.

Unfortunately, after eating my starter and my main course, I felt very unwell. The pieces of lobster in the Rissotto in particular had tasted very bitter. As a result, I could not take part in the games or quizzes taking place. I did not attempt to eat my dessert. After a short period, I felt sick and went to the men's restroom were I was violently sick. I returned to my table where I drank still water before having to return to and be sick in the restroom once more. I went to inform a male member of staff on the ground floor that I had been sick in the men's restroom.

For the rest of the evening, I was only able to drink a few sips of still water periodically and could not drink alcohol or eat. I developed a temperature and contined to feel unwell. I was not able to socialise or enjoy myself as I had planned to as I felt too unwell. One of my colleagues who also had the Lobster Risotto said she felt unwell and spent some time in the restroom as she felt sick.

Overnight I maintained a high temperature and struggled to sleep resulting in me being very tired the next day. The next day I suffered from diarrhoea and had a lack of appetite. This disrupted plans I had made with family members. The following night I again had a high temperature and had a disturbed sleep.

The following morning I awoke with severe stomach cramps and had to take painkillers. I continued to experience diarrhoea and poor appetite throughout the day. It was only on the third day after the meal when my symptoms became less noticable.

I complained about my experience the restaurant on the basis that it ruined my enjoyment of the Christmas Party with my employers and the following two days of my Christmas break where I was not able to be involved in plans with friends and family members as I was too unwell.

A number of my work colleagues had also been unwell after eating which had split their enjoyment of their evening, therefore, provided evidence too.

Unfortunately, following sending my complaint, I received a without prejudice letter from a third party agency instructed by Carluccio's stating that my symptoms did not match the classic symptoms of two common bacterial strains that are a common cause food poisoning, campylobacter and Salmonella, and dismissed my complaint.

I received no further contact from the restaurant directly following this letter.

Chef needs a slap!!!

Went to the Canary Wharf restaurant for a cousins birthday meal on a Saturday evening.
We ordered starters, drinks and mains.

My cousin sent her starter back as the houmous looked like it had been sitting there for a while (did not look fresh or appetising). My calamari was decent (although I have had much better). My friend's white wine was warm.

The mains were horrendous!!!

Ordered a medium steak, which was so dry and overcooked and tasted of nothing. The same with the potatoes, they looked like they had been cooked 3 days ago and the rocket was dry and piled on the plate.... absolutely no sauce/gravy accompanied this meal whatsoever, and when I asked for some kind of sauce they brought me some mayonnaise lol. I ate some and sent back the plate of food as there was no way on earth I was eating that mess.
Another friend's lasagne was bland, but she managed to finish it and another friend sent back her meal too. 3 out of 4 mains were bad.
All in all it was a disaster!

On the bright side, the atmosphere was great and lively, and the 'male' staff were so polite, friendly, helpful and professional.
The female staff not so much (they looked like they hated their job and couldn't be bothered).

A very unenjoyable visit.

Visited Grand Central branch with my 6 yr old grandson.
I was on the point of walking out when I finally caught a waiter's eye and he unsmilingly took our order.
The order came in 3 stages with gaps, and my grandson's food was last.
The croissant came on a totally unsuitable saucer-like plate (with no butter). It was difficult to cut and there were crumbs all over the table.
Coffee should have been strong and hot but was weak and warm.
Equally difficult to catch the waiter's eye to get the bill which wrongly itemized a 'pistachio' croissant.
The waiter took my card from my hand as I was paying then gave it me back to me to put the number in, where my intention had been to pay contactless.
I noticed later that he had given me the 'Merchant Copy'.
He didn't look too pleased when I didn't leave a tip, but then he didn't look pleased the whole time we were there!
It was a very unenjoyable visit when it was meant to be a treat.

WOWCHER... NO VOUCHER!!!

Obviously Carluccio's do not want anyone to use their offers, a number of times now over these past week I have added my details to their January 2020 offer - 2 for 1£1 as every different email address I have added I do not seem to receive it!!!!!! or they seem to not want to send the voucher.
Strangely, when I made the reservation to use the voucher in advance and they were quick enough to confirm this...

Black hole, but I am sure there will be an excuse..

Not impressed

I’m Not A Vegan, I Can’t Eat Dairy!

I am dairy intolerant. I am not a vegan. For a few years now, we have frequented Carluccio’s in various towns and cities. Just before Christmas my husband and I called into the restaurant near the Arena in Birmingham where we would be seeing a show later that evening. We were lucky to get a table and I asked for the dedicated dairy free menu just like I’ve done every time we’ve been to Carluccio’s. They’ve stopped doing it! I was asked to choose something from the menu then the waiter went to the kitchen to ask if it had any dairy in it. My choice had dairy in it so I chose something else. The waiter then trotted off to the kitchen again to ask the same questions. Again, my choice had dairy in it. I pointed out it would save a lot of time if they could tell me which dishes I could actually eat. I was offered a choice of the three vegan options. I pointed out that I wasn’t vegan, I was intolerant to dairy. Because of the risk of cross contamination in having something without the cheese, etc., I ended up with an expensive vegan meal. To be fair it tasted very nice but there wasn’t any carbohydrate on the plate and the meal was very lightweight. I decided to fill up with a dessert, looking forward to one of those on the dairy free menu I had enjoyed before. Nope! Not available anymore! Anyone with a dairy allergy will know what’s coming next...SORBET!!! Just what you want to end a meal on a cold Winter’s evening. A bowl of ice! There’s now a plethora of desserts available suitable for people with allergies, intolerances and a wish to exclude certain things from their diet for various reasons. I ended up with a tray of chips at the theatre! Come on Carluccio’s! What the Hell’s happened? I used to really enjoy being able to easily and confidently eat in your restaurants. We used to regularly book tables for large numbers of our family. We won’t be doing anymore unless you re-instate the dedicated free from menus you had before. As about 1/3 of the British population is intolerant to dairy on some level, you really need to wake up and cater for them. That is unless you’re not interested in making a profit! I see from other reviews I’m not the only one who thinks that now Mr. Carluccio has sadly passed away that you think you don’t need to care anymore. Shame on you! The only saving grace was the polite and hard working staff. Sort it out!

Fab Carluccios, Bury St Edmunds

Carluccios in Bury St Edmunds:
We had a lovely meal today, fabulous freshly baked, still warm focaccia, crab pasta, lamb shank and carbonara. Service was brilliant, everything we requested happened and the waiting staff were lovely. I know some people have had bad experiences elsewhere but for us, every visit to Bury starts at Carluccios for one of their fab coffees. Nothing ever seems too much trouble and it is a nice place to eat.

I booked a table for me and my family… big mistake.

I booked a table for me and my family for New Year’s Eve. We arrived promptly at 8.30pm only to be told sorry the restaurants full and people have taken longer then expected. I’m the first instance we felt slightly uncomfortable as when Walked in we were literally the only Asian people in the whole building but this wasn’t a major issue. However we were then told by the female hostess why don’t we go for a walk for a while then come back and a table should be free. That being said it was freezing cold outside I had my elderly mother with me and my young nieces so this wasn’t feasible. I declined this of course and said we would wait to the side and asked how long would we be waiting. She advised us 10 mins or so. We waited 10/15 minutes then a waiter came over to ask if we had been seen and I explained the situation. He was at least honest and told us we would be waiting a good 30/40 minutes just so we wasn’t lead under false pretences which would then cause us to get angry so I appreciated his honesty. At no point did the female return to update us or give us any further idea of how long we would be waiting further. We eventually gave up and walked out very upset and angry. The whole point in making a booking is for it to be confirmed and a table kept available. That’s the whole point in a reservation. We then had to walk around lots of other restaurants trying to find a table for us as we travelled all the way from Stafford for this meal. Of course being New Year’s Eve there was nothing available. So we ended up wasting another hour doing this and then eventually gave up and went back to our cars and drove home. Ruined our new year of wanting a nice meal with family and catching up. To top it off not one person even bothered to call us after noticing we had walked out just to update us or even say sorry for the whole situation. Disgusted and disappointed to say the least with keeping my
Language to a reasonable standard. Thanks carluccios for a lovely New Year’s Eve!
