Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 85 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the service, describing it as horrible, slow, or unavailable, with frequent outages and unreliable internet that often cut out. Customers also consistently reported negative experiences with customer service, finding it difficult to reach a live person, encountering unhelpful and rude representatives, and experiencing long wait times. Reviewers frequently mentioned issues with contact, stating it was nearly impossible to get through to a human, often being directed to automated services or experiencing dropped calls. Payment and pricing were also significant concerns, with customers citing outrageous prices, unexpected increases, and unfair billing practices, including being charged for services after cancellation or for modem leases that never led to ownership.

I paid my over priced 70 dollar bills…

I paid my over priced 70 dollar bills for years with no lapse and always on time. I decided to switch because of the expense of the bill and went with starlink which is 50 a month for much faster internet. I called to cancel at the beginning of the month and sent back my modem as requested (they charge you 200 otherwise which is ridiculous). I just received a bill for the month. I tried to remedy this but instead was told that I cancelled “in the middle of the cycle and they don’t pro-rate.” So basically I’m being charged for no service all month. What a joke of a company. I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.

They are scam artists

They are scam artists. They confuse you with bombardment of texts and emails when you have the tech coming to install. I got it installed and it wasn't working. I called and they put in an order repair to come check the problem. They bombarded me with texts and emails to confirm my appointment. They threw in a confirmation for wire protection as well which I didn't notice. Be very careful with them. Corporate greed is rampant and they will do anything. And they make you listen to a recording instead of telling you in person what you are agreeing too. DON'T AGREE TO ANYTHING ON EMAIL OR TEXTS. Too long winded and technically and legally worded that you don't know what you are agreeing to.

Complete disaster

They were supposed to fix the mess that they made in the 9th today and instead canceled my service again claiming that my payment was denied by my bank. Yet when I talked to my bank my bank says no. No payment was attempted and so they are clearly full of crap and they don't care about their customers at all. This has been a complete disaster. I'm going to go with starlink and hope for better! We use this for phone service so my 84-year-old dependent adult is now with no phone.

If I could rate zero stars I would

If I could rate zero stars I would. terrible internet in the first place. Just awful. customer service is very poor. people are friendly but, if you need a tech for repair, good luck. I submitted a ticket at 9am and now it is 11:30 am. they tell me to call every hour and I have called 3 times to no avail. last call they finally admitted no ETA on tech.

I’ve been a customer since 2018

I’ve been a customer since 2018. The outages and excuses are beyond acceptable by any standard. Their CSRs, I feel so sorry for them. This should not be a reflection on them, but a direct glaring light on the failure of this company and their standards. Shame on you Century Link. I cancelled service today…finally. Billed through 3/16/26, service cancelled effective 3/9/26…something else I cannot make sense of. And I have been without service since 3/7/26. If you need internet and have ANY other option, take it!!

I contacted Centurylink via their live…

I contacted Centurylink via their live chat to get my landline number ported to Verizon my cell carrier. I was on the chat for 36 minutes with the person asking me a bunch of questions. I asked for the Port Pin number and after 36 minutes of wasting my time the agent said we do not require a Port Pin number to let your number be ported out. Ok then why didn't you tell me that at the very beginning instead of wasting 36 minutes of my time? All I asked was to have my number ported and then ended up canceling my entire service including internet. I never asked for that to be canceled and when I called they said I would habe to open up a new account. Centurylink is the most incompetent business I've ever dealt with. I'm so glad I've switched to Starlink. Oh and maybe get some customer service agents that speak English because I couldn't understand a damn word they were saying

DO NOT USE CENTURYLINK

After being a long term customer, our account was recently sold to AT&T with no official notice or information on how this might affect service. After we lost internet connection and contacted CenturyLink on a Friday morning, we were told it was a service outage in our area and would be repaired in 12-24 hours. At the time we were unaware of the change in service provider and they did not disclose. After 48 hours and no internet, we were told to contact AT&T. It turns out there was no area outage, they had simply turned off our service. After setting up a new account with AT&T we discovered that our CenturyLink account was still active and billable. Multiple calls later we were finally able to cancel the CenturyLink account and had to fight to have it closed on the day they turned it off. We are extremely disappointed with CenturyLink and would never recommend them again. Poor planning, poor customer service, poor policy.

Refund for return of equipment never received

I cancelled my service and returned the equipment June 2025. About two months later my bank account was debited $160 for non-return of the equipment. At that time I couldn't locate the tracking number, but was promised that if I found it, to call back and I would be refunded. That was August, 2025. About two weeks later I found the tracking number, tracked it and found it to be delivered. I called Centurylink, they acknowledged the equipment had been received, and was told my refund would be on the way within 15-30 days. It never came. I called again in November, 2025 and was told there was a "glitch" and the refund had not been issued, but was promised it would be be refunded now in 30-45 days. It never came. Since phone calls and being issued "case numbers" do nothing, I've decided to try covering the internet with scathing reviews against this pathetic company who stole $160 of my money and refuse to return it.

Almost impossible to get a live representative. Any call coming in when I am already on a call disconnects the call I am on. The AI does not understand unusual problems. Finally a rep but the connection was disconnected. Time to get a new company. The company deserves to go broke.

I have the worse home internet service. It’s extremely slow. It keeps freezing. I loose internet service. If you call customer service, you get an automated service. In other words, no one to truly help. The on line or app is only good for setting appointments. If I could give Centurylink 0 I would…..

What a Scam

I was a CenturyLink customer for 32 years. I canceled my account on November 20, 2025, and requested a UPS return authorization for the modem. Upon receipt I dropped the modem off at UPS and received a tracking receipt. 7-8 days later I verified that it was received by CenturyLink, so I disposed of the tracking receipt, MISTAKE. Two months later January 25, 2026, I received a bill for $162 for an unreturned modem.
After several calls to UPS and being told each time, CenturyLink is the only one that can and should provide the number they generated, they refused. I spoke with 2 agents, and each verified the November date they emailed the return authorization to me and then spoke with a supervisor by the name of Ashley, all of which refused to provide it. Ashley, did verify my account of 32 years but would not admit that the modem was 10 plus years old that they were still charging me $162.
This is after suffering their slow antiquated speed forever.

Any alternative is better!

We have a generally terrible experience with CenturyLink for both home and business services. We discontinued Internet at our home in the mountains because it simply did not work. They said they would not fix the problem as it was too expensive. We cancelled our business service as it was so slow it was impossible to use. When I cancelled and had a $11.00 overdue balance, they charged $18 late fee.

If i could use minus s numbers I would

If i could use minus s numbers I would. They are the worst internet service ever. I don't know how they stay in business.
Back in December I had paid for my monthly service on the 5th of the month. They did not credit it until the 9th. No problem right? Not! Then they tried again on the 11th to charge me again for service fee. Of course they were unable to so they cut my service off. Then the war began. Everyday they were demanding payment when they were already paid up. So I began the hassle of trying to find a way to get them to realize that they had already been paid. I was in contact with them everyday for the entire month arguing back and forth with them and contacting my bank to make sure they had been truly paid and no other action had occurred. Everyday they told me a different story on why they needed payment. They had taken the money from my account so why did they want paid I would argue. Everyday they had a new story why. It went from you never made payment to there was a dispute on payment, bank recalled payment, bank closed account with us, you asked bank to take money as return, we refunded your money, we issued a refund to your account, to anything they could come up wi5h to not admit their mistake on my payment for services. I don't have the money to pay for services again and again every month with no additional service rendered. They were paid and low and behold here we are over a month later with more excuses from them. I have all of the records to prove I had made payment and they received payment and that they discontinued my internet service. I have bank statement which show there was no refund ever issued and they had been paid. I believe that they are embarrassed over the entire thing and now they are refusing to make it right with me without me giving more money to them so they can say they were right when they were not at all ever! I don't know about anyone else but I refuse to give this fight up for my refund and I have discontinued my account with them. They stole my money and I don't know about anyone else but I should have read the reviews before I had service with them from the beginning. It has been a terrible thing with them from day one of getting them for my internet needs. They even took 9 weeks to get the service in from when we had agreed to have it originally connected. Good advice from me would be to read the reviews and make a better decision than I had. Even their overall star rating is one. It should have been a red flag but I did it anyway. I really need them to return my money and would love an apology for all they have put me through . I still want to say again that they were paid, on time and in full. Now I have had no Internet and they blocked my address from anyone else being able to connect at my home. Users and abusers of the system. I would love to see them put out of business so no one else has to go through what I have. So beware of them. Scammers and users of their authority

Terrible Service

WOW! Talk about bad service. I called to have internet set up, I was on the phone with Tammy for quite a while answering her questions. She finally got that all done. While on the phone with her I had to receive 2 emails, answer the questions and send back. When that was done she said everything was good and set up an install date. Earliest was 8 days later between 8am and 5pm. yesterday I waited all day for the installer to show up. He never did. I called the customer service line, only to find out they could not find anything on me. No account number, even though she gave me one, no install date, even though she gave me one. Said the only thing they could do was start the process over. I will do without internet before I go through all that again.
