Absolutely useless.
Had to call around 6 times before I could talk to someone who could actually help me. I was then pressured into signing a tenancy very quickly despite paying a holding deposit for a house. When viewing the property we were messed around because they couldn't acquire keys for the property. On the first day of our tenancy they couldn't give us the keys and had to rely on the landlord to let us in. Terrible communication and horrible business.

Awful experience. Was looking to rent a house with them - started out well with the agent organising a set of four house viewings on the Tuesday, providing details about each house via the reference number quoted on Rightmove. We were told we’d be viewing in 2 days at a specific time and that email confirmation would be coming soon.

We did not receive an email that night or the following morning. We called again to confirm that the viewings were still in the system and being booked and were told that they were and to just wait.

The following morning (day of the viewings) we received a call from a very unpleasant man to tell us that three of the four properties could not have viewings booked. He did not go into any details about why this was, what had happened in the intervening days or why, and said he’d call us back with these details and organising the last viewing - trying to get us off the phone as soon as possible. During the call we were told that information about some of the houses was incorrect - The first call had described one of the houses as having an HMO licence when this later call said it did not. The later agent also attempted to claim that I’d never called anyone the previous day to get an update (Despite the presence of the call log in my phone!).

We did not receive a phone call at all - an hour before the viewing mentioned I elected to go to their Oxford office to talk to someone in person. We were told in the end that of the four properties we’d wanted to look at, two had been let, one was not an HMO as previously claimed, and the last one had not been entered into the system or processed so no viewing had been booked. At no time in any of the three previous phone conversations was any of this mentioned, nor was it communicated in an email by Chancellors. I was promised a WhatsApp message with a video viewing of the last available property, but as you should expect by the overall low quality of this agency, this was never sent. I decided to call it quits at this point.

I am honestly shocked at the conduct of this agency and I’d advise any sensible tenant to steer well clear. If you’re a landlord - I’d consider another agency that won’t make the first step of your tenants housing journey deeply unpleasant.

Chancellors were generally very good and reliable. They have quite a few different phone numbers for the East Oxford branch which we were initially passed between but once we had contact with the estate agent Freya the process was quite easy and she was always helpful.
