I think the house was ready for a winter rest and hadn't been cleaned properly for some time, cobwebs, rubbish under beds/sofas. The pots and pans were dirty and needed cleaning before use, probably the previous tenants rather than the cleaners issue(?) The washing machine hadn't been kept up together which resulted in us having to remove the filter( after trying for 24 hours to retrieve the load) which resulted in us flooding the utility room. No mope in the property so ended up using our towels to clear up. There was a water leak under the sink so water started to come out of the cupboard across the kitchen floor. There was a sewage/drain/damp smell in the bathrooms and lower floor areas that we couldn't shift. The house in general was lovely and in a lovely spot, it just needed a bit of TLC. When dealing with Coastal Cottages they couldn't of been more helpful going above and beyond to get everything sorted.

Good Morning,

The house suited our party of 7 adults and 3 children! We enjoyed the location and especially the balcony, as the weather was warm and sunny! The children particularly enjoyed the games room! On the down side, the beds were quite uncomfortable, too soft! The tumble dryer wouldn’t work and the when using the washing machine, it had to be spun again after the chosen programme had finished. We also had to wash the dishes before we first used them! Although we understand this was down to previous renters! Apart from these things we all enjoyed our stay! The path through the caravan site on the right was great fir walking down to the beach!

Extremely Disappointed – Unsafe, Unclean, and Misrepresented Property We booked a cottage through Coastal Cottages hoping for a peaceful, clean, and comfortable family break — but what we experienced was entirely unacceptable, upsetting, and unsafe. From the moment we arrived, the property had a strong, overpowering smell of damp, with visible signs of moisture damage throughout. One of the bedroom doors was unusable due to a broken handle, and one room was completely uninhabitable because of the damp and odour. The cleanliness was appalling — there were blood stains on one of the duvets, food remnants on kitchen appliances, dirty cutlery and plates, and clear signs the house hadn’t been properly cleaned or maintained in a very long time. This wasn't just unpleasant — it was dangerous. My niece developed an infection, and my mother, who is undergoing chemotherapy for cancer, was later admitted to hospital with campylobacter, likely linked to the unhygienic conditions. This was meant to be a rare and important family trip to support her — instead, it was distressing and hazardous. I contacted Coastal Cottages immediately to request a move, but was told there were no alternatives available, leaving us stranded in unacceptable conditions. We booked this cottage in good faith based on how it was advertised — clean, comfortable, well-maintained. The reality was the opposite, and it clearly breached basic health, safety, and hygiene standards. Avoid at all costs — especially if you have vulnerable family members. What should have been a special, supportive time turned into a nightmare.

Some parts of the building had been freshened up but some parts the paintwork ie back of doors was grubby. First impression was of grubby wall in hallway. The plumbing, particularly the upstairs bathroom left a lot to be desired as the shower for use by 7 beds was only a trickle. The downstairs showers were good although the sealant on the ensuite was mouldy and cracked and the plughole was blocked. The games room in the basement smelled strongly of damp and was not pleasant to be in. However the house was well equipped perfect for our needs . The balcony was fabulous and the outdoor furniture was comfortable. Altogether a lovely place to stay and a pleasant walk to the beach and pub. A little bit of TLC would make this lovely property brilliant.
