Disappointed with Product Quality and Aftercare – Not What I Expected for £70

I’m really disappointed with my experience at Coates, especially considering the occasion and the cost. I paid £70 for a dozen pink roses in a presentation bundle for my wife on our 10th wedding anniversary. The presentation itself was nicely arranged, but unfortunately, the roses were already turning brown when I picked them up in the morning – something I only noticed properly when I got home and gave them to my wife.

Given the significance of the day, it was upsetting to present flowers that looked past their best. At the time, I didn’t complain – I was in a rush and tried to write it off. But the more I thought about it over the following days, the more disappointed I felt that Coates would allow flowers in that condition to go out the door.

I contacted them via Facebook almost two weeks later, and while I understand their point about the delay and lack of photos, their response was ultimately unsatisfying. I wasn’t looking for a full refund – just an acknowledgement that the quality had fallen short and some gesture of goodwill. They did offer a small bunch of flowers or a gift voucher, but by that point, I no longer needed flowers and declined the voucher as I won’t be returning.

In my opinion, if a business charges premium prices, the quality of the product and the aftercare should reflect that. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case here. I can only speak to my own experience, but I won't be using Coates again.
