Illegal Business Pracrices - filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission

Had a one time purchase experience with Columbia Sportswear online. Had no previous Columbia products - jacket was nice but shortly afterwards , this company was BLOWING up my business inbox - tried to UNSUBSCRIBE 10 times to no avail. Spoke with a CSR who was weak with skills and never got back to me after claiming he would “check into it,” and “speak with his support team.” Like What -t-t? All for a system request to simply unsubscribe ? Nothing changed; learned that Columbia Sports opened up a “marketing account “ without my permission , threw my purchase info into an account and blew up my inbox with unrelenting , annoying marketing emails no matter how I tried to unsubscribe . I filed a FORMAL complaint with the Federal Trade Commission after learning this is Illegal !! Also filed a complaint with my states Attorney General about this company’s business and marketing practices . It’s pathetic ! Do not do business with COLUMBIA! We all can find other companies to spend our hard earned money with !!’

Using purulator

Tired of Purolator. It’s a shame so many stores still use this service. Not a single one of my packages has ever been properly delivered, they don’t bother trying to access the building, ring once just to pretend they tried, and leave a notice. This time was no different. I ordered from Columbia and wasn’t given the option to choose a different carrier. To make matters worse, the pickup location they use is a run-down corner store in a sketchy area near a shelter. Absolutely unacceptable experience from start to finish.

Awful customer service

Awful customer service, do not buy from here! I paid £4.90 for standard delivery which said 3-4 working days to arrive for a present for someone. After a week it hadn’t even been dispatched yet, so clearly it wasn’t going to arrive within the stated timeframe when they hadn’t even bothered to send it yet. I asked to cancel the order, but Laurent from customer services said it couldn’t be cancelled and would be dispatched within the next few business days! Absolutely terrible service, and made worse by refusing to cancel despite the fact the order has not been processed or left the warehouse yet. I’ll be returning the item so they’re just wasting everyone’s time.

Awful

Awful. Please avoid. Coat not received and Paypal helped me get a refund. Second coat was returned as it was too big (if you do order, size down) been waiting almost a month for a refund even though Columbia received it back in their warehouse weeks ago. Have had to ask Paypal to step in and help again. Shop in store, not online.

Garbage Clothing Brand

Purchased at Kohl's a CSW lightweight synthetic long-sleeve fishing shirt for summer wear. Washed it twice and the fabric was badly pilling. Too late to return to Kohl's, was advised to make a warranty claim with CSW and did so. Paid to return the item. CSW determined the shirt was defective, but only provided a partial credit TO THEIR WEBSITE or brand store (none near me). Ordered a like-size and type replacement but had to pay again for shipping $8. Item arrived with sleeves being 8-inches too long: cut for an Orangutan. Once again had to pay to return their defective-sized item and they refused to issue a cash refund: only online store credit. In addition, took a percentage back, issuing only a $45 store credit.

Aside from wasted time and chronically-poor item quality, CSW has now cost me approximately $30 to allegedly "make right" their defective items.

LESSON: NEVER buy CSW anything, ever, no matter how good-looking. Stay away from this rip-off, garbage brand.

Please please stay clear of this…

Please please stay clear of this company. I thought it was part of the USA company. The women’s jacket was poorly made. I returned it within 2 days of receipt.
At the moment they are refusing to even look at my return citing that I did not use an UPS drop box. Local boxes were not working so posted it back with myself paying the costs. Incredibly poor customer service. Rude person at the end of the line.

AAuthorized retailer and f I could give zero stars I would.

If I could give zero stars, I would. I am a manager at a retail store that sells Columbia products. Our return policy is better than theirs which blows my mind. They are forcing me to physically drive an hour and a half to return an item that I purchased because by the time it gets to the warehouse, the return policy will be up. Everywhere has a postmarked by policy. I was honest with them and told them exactly why I've been delayed and returning my product, my father died. I was out of town for a month and couldn't deal with anything like this, rightfully so. But instead of understanding, they are very difficult to work with. So now I have to send the item back and hope for a refund or drive an hour and a half to the nearest store somehow in the next 4 days but the hours are exactly the hours that I worrk (at my store where I sell Columbia items.) I will definitely be talking to my buyer and the rep. This is awful customer service. I'll be sure to tell my customers as well. People want to spend their money on companies that care and work with extenuating circumstances not jerks. I know what can be done since I work in the industry.

Worst customer service I have EVER experienced

You'd think a huge company involved in Olympic sponsorship (curling team apparel) would be reliable. They most certainly are not! I had a feeling it wasn't going to be plain sailing from their 1st acknowledgment email, when I was told "please note that reminders do not speed up the processing of your request - quite the contrary." ie. Do not get back to us or we will take even longer to respond!
The zip on my, less than 3 month old coat, broke, making it unwearable. First off I was advised to find a seamstress, get it repaired myself and they'd refund the amount. I advised that this was inconvenient and was told no when I asked if they had an authorised repair centre I could send it to. I was then offered an online voucher for the cost of the coat, but I had to spend more than its value to 'activate it'. I refused this after contacting consumers' advice for their opinion. There was a 3rd offer of a voucher for a lesser amount with a refund of money to top it up to the correct amount. Unfortunately, there was nothing similar on there website and I asked for a refund. This was refused. The final offer was for me to send it to their authorised repair centre for repair. WHICH I'D ASKED FOR INITIALLY! Customer service was rude, unprofessional and very slow to respond. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COST!

Ordered a jersey online

Ordered a jersey online. They sent a shipping notice that it was on the way. A week later still no status change. Was told to wait another week. Tried to reorder but the item was sold out. CS gives run around and BS with no ability to solve anything, just give lies and BS. Easily the worst online experience I have ever had. Bye Bye Columbia!

I bought a jacket from Columbia…

I bought a jacket from Columbia Sportswear at their website. I found a defective hole on the selves , and needed to get help about it. The customer service were foreigners. I had called the customer service twice , both times were a foreigner speakers. I couldn't understand what they were telling me what to do to return / ship it back to the company. I won't be buy from Columbia 's website anymore.

I ordered a virtual gift card from…

I ordered a virtual gift card from Columbia Sportswear on December 24, 2025. It was delivered to the wrong email address due to an error that needed correction. When I contacted customer service, I was told the gift card would be reissued to the correct email.
Over one month later, the gift card has still not been delivered.
When I followed up to request a refund, I was told a refund was not possible and that I would need to wait up to six weeks for the corrected virtual gift card to be sent. This is completely unacceptable for a digital product that should be delivered instantly or within days.
Customer service claimed the delay was due to additional payment and identity verification. The payment processed successfully to my credit card at the time of purchase, and I have now completed identity verification twice.
A six-week wait for a virtual gift card, with no option for a refund, is unreasonable. This experience has been frustrating, disappointing, and a huge waste of time. I would not recommend purchasing gift cards from Columbia Sportswear based on this experience.

I bought two pairs of ski socks and…

Columbia issued a refund to me. I am happy that they stood behind their shipment never arriving.

I bought two pairs of ski socks and they were never delivered. They would not offer picture proof of the delivery they state happened. They will not issue a refund and closed the case. I called and they offered to make me repurchase the same product and then they would refund me the original price after I received the product. However, the product is still out of stock 2 months later. I WILL NEVER SHOP HERE AGAIN!

I have recently bought a ski jacket…

I have recently bought a ski jacket that does not comply with the description mentioned in the website. The Ava jacket is stated to have a security interior pocket and it does not have this pocket. The factory malfunction was acknowledged by the company and I was informed I could call on the two year warranty. Later, the factory malfunction was denied by a different service employee, trying to undermine the previous suggested solution. I stated my rights as a consumer, which the employee never replied to. I called the costumers service to explain in words that there is in fact a malfunction, but this employee asked me to resolve it with the colleague involved in the correspondence (who very clearly did not read my emails). I have been very happy with the products of Columbia for years, but the way my complained is being addressed is very disappointing. For other consumers, please read carefully what is being sold to you in the description since this might not be in accordance with the product. It’s not in accordance for the Ava jacket and I’ve also seen other advertisements that are not in accordance. Very shameful that an acknowledged company such as Columbia has such awful and illegal practices.

Avoid, shop local.

Prime example of when a company targets the mass market without considering the back office - no customer service, no acknowledgement or by return, no refund after 10 days of them receiving my item.

And their marketing emails aren’t geographically correct, since my order I get USA marketing…

Recently on a hunt for a down jacket

Recently on a hunt for a down jacket, ordering was fine, but the delivery did take a bit longer than I expected. The jacket arrived and it smelled very chemically. It was very off-putting. One of the other items had a manufacturing fault. It was returned and it is taking a very long time to get a refund as they will not exchange.

Worst company ever

Worst company ever! Good luck if you buy from them! For me, I placed an order for a Columbia jacket from one of their authorized retailers. It was shipped directly from Columbia should I tell you and came in with rips above pocket linings. Columbia continued to blame the retailer I bought it from even though it come directly from the manufacturer! Columbia finally accepted a small portion of responsibility like an immature child and finally got their jacket admitting it couldn’t be repaired and gave me a merchandise card. Placed (2) online orders with the merchandise card. First order was socks that came in with thread hanging on the (4) attached pair with the clip used. Most disturbing was shoe box that came in without the shoes! Yes, no shoes!!! Called this joke of a company that wanted me to place another order with my own money for the shoes and then they’d refund the shoes I DIDNT GET TO BEGIN WITH LOL! Yes you’re reading this correct! The representatives have zero idea what they’re doing and in desperate need of training help! I wouldn’t order a toothpick from this place. Long story here short, no jacket I paid for, no shoes I got in return for my money spent on jacket and socks ordered that are splitting open at the threads. Owner must be More worried about sending pictures of family members with future order discounts lol! No freaking thanks! Stay away!

Wrong item received - Columbia won't send replacement

I ordered a fleece for my partner for his birthday, the package arrived and it was a completely different item - kids jacket. I emailed their customer service team and they say they can't issue a replacement. They asked me to send the jacket I received back and after the receive it they'll issue a refund within 10-15 days. If I'm to reorder the fleece, I'll have to pay for another delivery fee because they claim their system doesn't work this way. Meanwhile, they can gift items to influencers without any issues. It seems Columbia couldn't care less about their paying customers and taking care of their customers even when the error is on their side.

I am still waiting for a refund from…

I am still waiting for a refund from November!! ‘Pedro’ from the chat function is just awful, doesn’t answer questions, gets my name wrong. They are so slow at responding to messages. Currently £175 out of pocket for a coat I don’t have.
