Looking at 165 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers expressed dissatisfaction with the website's functionality, citing issues like constant buffering, lag, and a generally disorganized and buggy interface. People also reported significant problems with their subscriptions, including being charged for canceled services, difficulty canceling, and unexpected charges. The product itself, primarily the anime content, received criticism for missing English subtitles or dubs, incomplete series, and censored scenes. Reviewers frequently encountered poor user experience due0 to navigation issues, a lack of essential features like removing shows from "continue watching," and a hidden, unhelpful support page. Loyal annual subscribers are blocked from discounts

I purchased an Annual Mega Fan subscription at full price earlier this year and responsibly turned off auto-renew so it wouldn’t recur. My membership is still active.

Crunchyroll is now advertising a Year-End Sale for the exact same annual plan at a significantly lower price. When I tried to purchase the sale to extend my subscription, I was blocked because my account is still considered “Premium.”

I contacted support and they confirmed this is intentional policy:
• Existing annual subscribers cannot access promotions
• Membership time cannot be stacked or extended
• Only new or lapsed users can use sales

This means customers who pay early at full price are penalized, while those who cancel or wait are rewarded. The system actively discourages loyalty and incentivizes letting subscriptions lapse.

I’m not asking for a refund or special treatment — just pointing out that this is an anti-consumer billing model that pushes long-term subscribers away. As a result, I’ll be moving my subscription spending to other platforms that offer fairer promotions.

If you’re considering an annual plan, be aware that Crunchyroll does not honor sales for existing subscribers.

disapointments after disappointments

it has a few pros and a whole lot of ridiculous cons.
-high definition anime, loads videos quickly
-due to some "regional licencing" many anime are only available with japanese dub+german subtitles. No english subtitles available. I do not care about your excuses. It's 2025, it's a paid service, and you can't provide english subs.
-2025 and we're still doing the intro outro garbage. I'm watching an anime and 7 minutes in, I have to get up and skip the intro manually, on every single episode. There's no settings to auto skip it. There's SOMETIMES a button that you can click to skip, if you click it fast enough. Otherwise it disappears. Usually can't skip the recaps. It's 2025 and these people don't understand that we are BINGE WATCHING.
-absolutely obsessed about classifying anime in "seasons" to make it as confusing as possible and possibly accidentally skip an episode. Is this run by americans? I know americans have a hard time counting... 1... 2... 3.... even on an anime like "one piece" that, everywhere else, the episodes are listed from 1 to 1100+. NOT by "seasons".
-I was looking up "kingdom" and the big nice button says "start watching at season 3 episode 1"... wait... season 3??? wtf? Is it so hard to understand that someone wants to watch an anime story from the START of the story and not from the middle??? Apparently they just decided to not put season 1 or 2. You don't have a choice. Actually I do have a choice to not pay you anymore.

It's absolutely ridiculous. Decades have passed and these people are devolving.

p.s. you get "notifications" which are actually just ads. Misleading scumbag marketing tactics. NOT appreciated, NOT clever.

Low grade services and difficulties to make a simple payment

I tried to solve a payment problem with their team, after received a message saying approximately this: "We are having trouble collecting payment from your credit card ending in 1234. To update your payment method, please visit website/billing. You may also use a different payment method.". They were initially able to charge me using this precise credit card informations the previous month. I contacted my bank to make sure they didn't prevent the payment to go through, and the staff said no, after checking. I then chatted with a Crunchyroll employee, but they behaved like a stone wall of someone who isn't listening (or understanding, let's say, if it's advantageous to them). I was offered 2 options, one being to wait to see if this payment method would work in the next few days. I asked if it was likely to work and wrote that if the odds were not against it, I would go for that option. I asked the employee more than once to confirm if this option were likely to work. They never answered this question, and asked me three times what my choice was. I had to mention thrice the same choice, and they did not answer my question. I'm asking much less than absolutely nothing to Crunchyroll and their whimsical staff: I want to pay without wasting my time with them ever again in this life and I want them to provide functional services. They are that less than charming distance between me and something that should have been quite accessible: paying with a credit card that definitely works (I use it often online), not dealing with staff that ask the same question on repeat mode when it was answered clearly a few times, yet avoiding to answer my questions, and simply getting the services I paid for in the past. Automatic payment is useful if I have to deal with citizens of that quality. The whole point is to avoid dealing with the human component, which almost always rhymes with compleasant incompetence, based on what I've experienced so far. Would a mangaka afford to fly so low? I slightly doubt it. The human part of this grotesque equation was the rusty link in a chain that should never have existed. Their best asset is to offer me something most item sellers or service providers offered me so far on this continent: mediocrity at a cost, bonified by a redundant waste of my time. No matter what those folsks say, think and feel, they are paid to offer me all of this, which must be my sincere privilege, if anything.

Absolutely terrible support

I started receiving emails almost daily. I first tried the link to unsubscribe on a web page. That failed so I tried from the android app. That failed with the same error message. I entered two requests to delete the account, 6 days apart. After 11 days, nothing it happened so I initiated an online chat. I was told by an agent that I had to submit the request in an email, but the address he gave me was for a web page. I initiated a second chat and received what appeared to be a proper email address. However, that failed when I tried to use it. It seems that the only way a request to delete an account is via the online form, which has been confirmed in a third chat by an automated response, which appears more intelligent than either of the live agents that I spoke with.

Con jobs

Signed up for a black Friday deal. Paid with card on their website and it told me all done your mega fan subscription is active. Use the service non stop for over a week, and I really do mean non stop. Well it turns out that after telling me my payment had gone through, that it hadn't actually. And they mysteriously don't say anything about the payments not going through, no notification at all to let you know there's a problem with your account, nothing. They just suddenly stop your subscription with no warning. And now that there is no black Friday deal anymore, they say don't worry, we can sign you up for full price now if you'd like... Con jobs. Won't be signing up again.

Since Sony took over Frustrating Experience

Since Sony took over Crunchyroll, the service has gone downhill. The app and website are buggy, subscriptions often don’t register, and customer support is almost impossible to reach. Content issues like inconsistent subtitles or missing dubbed episodes make some series unwatchable. While the platform still has some good shows, the constant technical problems and poor management make it hard to recommend. Very disappointing overall.

Seriously the bare minimum is not there, I’m watching parasite, and out of nowhere episode 5 doesn’t have eng subs. So basically I’m watching a series where in the middle of the season i gotta go f myself and watch a japanese spoken anime with spanish subs. Wtfk. All i’m asking for is eng subs or dubs anything to make it watchable. How can you justify this shit, i’m not asking for a wierd or niche language, it’s english for f sake, also if you can’t be the consistent with the subs throughout the series, maybe not upload it at all😭

I paid for ad free why am I still getting advertisements from Crunchyroll about Crunchyroll

Crunchyroll used to be a really good app, until about 8 months ago where they rolled out a change where they started placing previews at the beginning before your show would play. In these previews they're advertising the same old shit that they already have pop-ups on the main screen of their website for. I do not give a mother fu** if it is skippable why the f*** am I still being subjected to ads when I am paying for ad free. According to Crunchyroll it's okay because it's not a traditional advertisement. It doesn't matter ad free it's ad free.

I think somebody should start a class action lawsuit against them for this as false advertisements why am I paying money to see advertisements from the place I'm paying to stop seeing from
