Save time and money by trusting DTL

I tried a couple of favourable review ,local computer repair outfits but they failed to extract the stored documents on my device.
I looked further afield looking at reviews and decided to trust my device to DTL Data Recovery who clearly mapped out the procedure involved, cost and timescale in order to retrieve my documents. True to their word my Documents were saved, stored and back with me as discussed.
Delighted,relieved and thankful.

Great service, you get what you pay for.

From the very beginning, I had quick replies to all queries, and the turnaround time was very good. All data recovered and copied on to a disk I sent in. Very easy company to work with. This is not a cheap service, but if you need your data - this is the place to go.

Datatrack - excellent professional data retrieval service.

Datatrack undertook a very comprehensive preliminary review of the problems with the faulty external drive and provided an excellent illustrated report without charge. Following my agreement for Datatrack to retrieve all files from the faulty drive, they did so at a highly competitive price. So all in all, an excellent and highly professional service.

Please AVIOD this company. RIP OFF!!!!!

Please AVIOD this company. According to their website its free assessment, the prices look attractive and no data no fee. NONSENCE! On receiving my hard drive they emailed to say that as my HD had been looked at before, which it had by another company who I couldn't afford at the time, it doesn't qualify for the free assessment. They then charged me £120 to assess it but said there were confident of recovering my data. This was all old family pictures etc. I then receive an email saying it doesn't qualify for the no data no fee and quoted £580 not inc vat and demanded i pay 50% up front and said they then wasn't going to guarantee recovering ANY data with no refund. Previously they'd quoted around the £200 mark just to lure you in. I appreciate these things are not cheap but the whole way through I was mislead and they've ripped me off to the tune of £120. Coupled with rude sales team Id AVOID these cowboys.
Follow up to to DTL returning my hard drive, I received an email from them saying its been posted and included a tracking number. This was until i wrote a negative review about them to which I then received an email demanding another £40 yes FOURTY pounds to send it back to me. This itself speaks volumes about this two bit company. Not sure you'll be able to lie your way out of this one! Posted with tracking number then changed to more money demands.
Customers do yourself a favor and read the many many negative reviews and choose another legitimate company who wont try and pull your pants down.
DTL please use that £120 you rinsed out of me for lessons in politeness and decency training.
Pathetic childish response from a two bit company. I have no hidden agender against this "company".
If customers wish to not take my advice, please read all the many others whos pretty much said exactly the same!

Hi Dominic, thank you for 'constructive' feedback. We are grateful to the Trust Pilot platform so we can actually get the real facts across.

You submitted a quote request for data recovery and when doing so you omitted to mark the checkbox which states if the disk has been opened or not. You deliberately mislead us from the start.
We charge £100 plus VAT to assess any disks which have been previously opened, as do most other companies in this field, this is not a secret.
You asked to to arrange a collection and this we did, you then contacted us a few hours later to book another collection for a different address as you didn't realise you were working the following day. We did this for you even though your pick up cost us double.

We received the hard drive and could clearly see the disk had been opened and it contained a job number from another company (which transpires to be Fields Data Recovery). You had sent the disk to Fields Data Recovery and declined their quote.

We informed you that if you would like us to perform assessment then there is a payment of £120 to be made, this would be deducted from the final recovery cost should the disk be in good condition and not be compromised. We exchanged several emails, many of which you asked if the data was recoverable, we explained numerous times we will not know until we have assessed it.

You decided to make the OPTIONAL payment of £120 to carry out the assessment.
We completed the assessment and could see the disk was in a terrible condition, all down to human interference, mistreatment and mishandling. Lots of surface damage, dirt, debris and finger prints on the platter surface.
As a result of this damage we could not offer a no data no fee service, why should we throw our own money and resources at a disk which is in a totally disgusting condition? We back ourselves completely if it is a naturally occurring failure. We asked for 50% of the fee upfront and a further 50% if the recovery was to be successful. The fee was £468 plus VAT to due to multiple issues with the disk. This disk should easily be a £800 - £1500 recovery but some people cannot see the wood through the trees.

You take exception to this quote and insist you have never opened the hard drive, if you haven't opened the hard drive then you should be directing your anger at the people which made such a mess of it. (Still awaiting your review of them)
If you hadn't made a mistake with the disk you would have enjoyed the benefits of a free assessment, a free quote and a strict no data no fee service and a quote of £100-£300. We pointed this out to you and you got even angrier, again this anger should be directed elsewhere to whomever made a mess of the disk.

So you haven't been ripped off, and we are not cowboys, you have made mistakes and that is why you are angry.
We have completed a record amount of recoveries in January and continue to improve year on year, as one of the longest established data recovery companies in the UK we refute the cowboy allegation.

Our own regret with this case is you decided to choose us and we really wish you ended up being someone else's problem. No doubt you would be writing the very same review about them.

UPDATE : Dominic has now edited his review 3 times. He has failed to counter any of our arguments though.... (Says everything). He is factually correct about us sending a tracking number (the only thing he has said that is accurate) as it was generated by our system, we were just about to dispatch his hard drive but it was realised he has not paid the £20 collection fee and the £20 return fee. He agreed to these fees before sending in the disk as it is clear in our terms and conditions. Dominic has since emailed to ask us to bin the hard drive.

I think of myself as being fairly techno-savvy ...

I think of myself as being fairly techno-savvy and always lecturing others on the need for backing up data. Then it happened - HD crash. No problem, bound to have backed up. No, Windows (not Me!) had altered my default folder options and 10+ years of research vanished. My usually reliable local PC shop couldn't help. Datatrack-labs ran an analysis. Took a punt. Their summary of file content recovery seemed too good to be true given it was a hardware issue and multiple sector damage. Disc contents returned by way of an external 1TB HD. Everything recovered. It wasn't cheap but the cost immaterial compared to the value of my time and sanity. Good and prompt communications throughout, despite the pandemic.

I lost all my data just before the lockdown and wasn't able to work for for a while. Luckily DTL were there to help and I managed to get all my files back in one piece & at a better price than other services. A definite 5/5, I would highly recommend & definitely use their services again.

Thanks for the memories.…

I can’t thank the Datatrack team enough for recovering my corrupt hard drive. You see, I lost my husband in March this year and all our precious photos and videos of years of Greek holidays were on there. I was heartbroken when I couldn’t get the hard drive to work but luckily a search online brought up Datatrack. They couldn’t have been nicer and eventually (after a small blip) I was reunited with all my previous memories....priceless!!
Thank you Datatrack, especially Michael, who dealt with all my panics very graciously.

Scam company

Scam company. Claimed that they couldn't possibly recover an industry standard SanDisk USB because they couldn't open it up, eventually sent back the USB after a lot of fuss and legal threats, on return the USB was BURNT which it wasn't before and the data was unrecoverable as a result. Do not go near.

Great company, great service

Ignore the poor reviews below, in comparison to similar companies in the area, this company is the best, and best value for money.

Had a hardware problem with an external hard drive that resulted in some of the sectors in the hard drive being corrupted. Initially sent it over to another company, who then held the hard drive for ransom and charged a lot of money for it. Contacted Data Track labs and they quoted less than half of what the other company did and had it quoted, done and sent back to me within 6 days.

If you have an issue with a hard drive or external hard drive i'd recommend these, they are reassuring on the phone and deliver what they promise.

Hi Susan, many thanks for your kind words.

I recall our initial conversation and your initial scepticism of our services after you spoke with another company that spent the entire conversation running down competitors as opposed to selling their own services. We are delighted we had chance to speak to you and relay any fears which you may have had.

Over the past 15 years we have been constantly battling the unscrupulous operating in the industry who deploy dirty tricks campaigns which range from basically just outright lying, fake reviews and fake information, all we do is ask the client to have a conversation with us in order to pass their own judgement.

Media has never been returned.

The company gave me a quote but the real price they have asked after was like 10 times higher what makes no sense at all. Tried calling them many times but they keep telling me I'll get a call back and obviously no one ever did call me back. So I continued calling them but... same story... no body knows anything and they need to talk to someone and call me back.

Hi Mantas,

It is with great surprise we find this review.

According to our system your hard drive was returned in April 2019 and our last communication received from you was in May 2019. No further communication has been received.

The reason why we could not recover your data for £99 is because your case required a detailed forensic analysis. Your CCTV had overwritten itself and you wanted to locate video footage. Your CCTV system uses a Be-Spoke file system and possible encryption. No software can do this so a manual be-spoke recovery was required. The costs reflected this. If you had decided to engage with us and ask us questions instead of conducting slander we could have provided you with the information you needed to understand the process.

We have received only 8 cases similar to yours in the past 15 years. If it was normal file deletion off a Windows, Mac or Linux system then we would have honoured our £99 ex VAT fixed price quote.

Over 85 clients have received a deleted file recovery from us since April 2019 and have only only parted with our fixed price of £99 ex VAT.

We will look into this further for you, it is possible the disk was returned to us if you had failed to sign for it or collect it from the sorting office.

I sent these people my external hard drive that had a lot of irreplaceable personal photos and documents and a lot of other things that I thought I would loose owing to corruption of the drive. I was a bit dubious about sending it off, as I thought nothing could be done. I needn’t have been these people have done well. And I am well pleased. All my data back, nothing lost and a quick turn round.
Before they started they told me what the problem was and would not start, till I gave them the go a head. In emails I have sent them I told them that should I ever have another problem like this I will not hesitate to use them again Many thanks to all at Data Recovery

Unreliable, unresponsive and slow - read how they respond to this feedback for a view of how they treat customers

Sent a damaged USB stick for repair, never heard back and had to chase 4 times for a verdict and to get it returned after an unsuccessful recovery attempt. Have had another USB data recovery company review the USB stick who have said that a poor initial attempt may have damaged chances of a successful recovery

Update 5th Feb:
Following DTL claiming I had not been a customer to dodge the negative review, and me providing evidence to Trustpilot, I'm disappointed but not surprised to see an aggressive and unprofessional reply from them. I'm happy to respond to their comments:

"For some reason you have failed to mention.. You did not pay us a single penny"

Response: You advertise a 'No data, no fee' service. So when there was no data recovery, there was no fee. This does not mean I am not a customer.

"I am sorry the information is not recoverable as confirmed by the unscrupulous misleading company you obtained a second opinion from... It's of no surprise you swallowed what they told you though considering after we told you the device was beyond recovery (after several weeks of us trying!) as it was physically dead you insisted on it's return so you can 'format it' to use it again. ..... We hope clients see past your anger and ignorance, I am really sorry you lost your files but I don't think it excuses attempting to damage a business"

Response: So you are aware, I sent the USB you returned to the second 'unscrupulous misleading' company (don't know how you can describe them like that when you don't know who I went to) who successfully recovered all of my files - the USB was not dead or unrecoverable as you claim. You had removed the housing leaving an exposed board so it was not usable for me to reformat (Thanks for that). Name calling me as angry and ignorant is shocking - I'm a customer and you should be accountable for my negative experience with you.

Hi Mark,

Many thanks for your feedback. For some reason you have failed to mention.. You did not pay us a single penny, we went above and beyond to exhaust all avenues to recover the information. I am sorry the information is not recoverable as confirmed by the unscrupulous misleading company you obtained a second opinion from (Still can't find your review of them though).
I would be delighted if you can explain how us rubbing back the circuit board of the monolithic device to expose the copper tracks in order to locate the device pin map would damage the device further... Think about this logically, company B wants to make itself look good and save face as they cannot recover your data so they blame company A, not only they save face but they also manage to besmirch company A (A competitor) in one play...
It's of no surprise you swallowed what they told you though considering after we told you the device was beyond recovery (after several weeks of us trying!) as it was physically dead you insisted on it's return so you can 'format it' to use it again. ..... We hope clients see past your anger and ignorance, I am really sorry you lost your files but I don't think it excuses attempting to damage a business.

I have used DataTrack Labs twice now

I have used DataTrack Labs twice now. It is such a vulnerable act to send over a broken hard drive with all your precious work and media on it. And you could be so open to abuse and I am sure there are bogus companies out there who hold clients to ransom. Which is why it is important to have reviews like this. Both times I have used DataTrack Labs they have been courteous and quick and successful in recovering and returning my data. The last time I had to get some music for an inner city London school for a summer production and time was against us - and Michael at the lab gave me a significant discount on the emergency rate. I can't fault them and would use them again.

Large amount of pictures on a 64G memory card and they would not transfer to my PC stating that the card was not formatted. Sent the card of to Datatrack Labs Ltd after a provisional quote received. Once they analysed they provided a firm quote and shared a list of files that they thought could be recovered. Go ahead given to progress with recovery and few days later good news. New USB memory stick received on which > 99% of my pictures were recovered and some pictures partial but could still crop and get something of an image recovered of those. Great service and skill to recover, speedy and good level of communication to keep me informed on status.

Had a great experience with them

Had a great experience with them! My computer refused to boot up and when I took it to a local hardware expert he said he couldn't find anything on the hard-drive and my best option was to reformat the hard drive and erase everything. I decided to give Datatrack Labs a try before giving up and I'm grateful that I did! They recovered almost all of my data, and the service was pretty good too.

An excellent service - very impressed!

Datatrack managed to rescue the contents of a very mangled memory stick and restore all my data within a very short timeframe, and for a reasonable price. Other quotes were for at least double theirs so I feel I received a very good service all round. I would thoroughly recommend them. Thank you again.
