Issues and bad communication
Not all of the materials required for my college course were in stock. That itself was not a problem, but the hold put on my credit card was. With the two remaining items unfulfilled, the initial 97.00 was kept and my card charged a second time for the portion of the order that was shipped, +/- 80.00. The first charge stayed in place until I was forced to cancel the remaining items.
I spoke to customer service about this at both my card company and Blick, and was given the runaround from each. Once the order was cancelled, the problem was resolved quickly and the held dollars were available to me again.
I will never order art supplies through Blick again.

First ever online order from Blick…
First time ordering supplies from Blick online. Shipping was costly considering the items I ordered were quite small and the shipping took longer than originally projected, with no revised date of arrival, which was very disappointing - FedEx was used for shipping instead of USPS. Other than that, all items were well packaged and arrived intact. Not sure I’ll order again after this experience.

They used to be five stars but they've been shipping my pencils ink and other goods in a poor manner. It looks like they threw them into the box then crammed paper in along with the invoice. I had crushed yarn cones, broken pencils bent paper etc. They also take forever to ship. I made an order including an ink on hold for a restock and they took over a week to send it out. They make a tracking number within a day usually but wont send things out for a ridiculous amount of time. I understand a couple of days. I emailed the company and they were very dismissive. I recommend if able, shop at another store with better shipping and customer service.
Edit 1/10/2026 Yes, replacement was offered from my orders. But unfortunately the goods were either needed or someone's gift so returning them for undamaged goods wasn't a good option. The box was not damaged in shipping. If it was I wouldn't be so unimpressed.
As for the back ordered item.(I did not message Blick until the item was relisted back on site as in stock and even then had given it about a week) When asked about it I was not told that they had yet to receive the item as it said it was back in stock on their site and the email "Thank you for contacting Blick art materials. I am sorry for the delay in response. Your itemname ink is in stock and currently being processed at the warehouse.
It should ship out soon and we will email you the tracking number when it does. Please let us know if you have any questions or if we can be of further assistance. Thank you," Which okay, fine I let it go. I didn't plan to buy anything else from them at this point and haven't. I'll be avoiding them unless I can only obtain an item through them. I honestly would hate to see what the expected shipping window is if this has been it.

They listed the sizing incorrectly on…
They listed the sizing incorrectly on their brushes causing me to purchase 2 of the same sizes that were listed as different sizes. They sent me a "replacement" brush that was, again, incorrect. Then they told me it was a manufacturer issue and I could pick a different brush. Then they told me, actually with that brand those two sizes were the same thing so I was the one who made the mistake and ordered 2 of the same thing and they wouldn't be helping me further. No, I ordered what I thought was 2 different sizes because they were listed as 2 different sizes with one of those sizes being placed as several sizes larger. I wouldn't have ordered 2 of the same brush if they had them listed correctly. They act as though me keeping the incorrect "replacement" brush makes it all okay, but it doesn't. I don't need 3 of the same size brushes, I needed a larger size, I'd happily return them if I were sent a prepaid label so I could get my money back and purchase the correct size, but I was not given that option. After this, they changed their sizing on their website so they know full well the mistake was on their end and it was their size chart that was wrong. It was not my mistake, it was theirs. I had to get my credit card involved to force a refund and I won't be purchasing from them again. Initially I was happy with their customer service response, but their lack of accountability leaves MUCH to be desired.
In response to the reply: Blick completely fails to understand the problem. Still. The more I speak with this company the angrier I get at their inability to take any accountability.
You were selling a product you don't have and you cannot send me that is identical to another product under a separate name and advertised as a different product with a different size.
If you were not selling 1 identical product under 2 sizes, I wouldn't have purchased 2.
But that's fine, I'll just continue with my chargeback. I will not continue to explain this problem to people who can't understand why it's a problem to sell a product they don't even have under a different name to an identical product.

Great Customer Service and Selection
I've used Blick for years and have always been please with their quality and customer support. Problems with deliveries are quickly fixed, without even needing proof of error or waiting for returns to take place. The selection of art materials is also extremely wide and priced competitively.

I ordered Prisma Premier set of 150
I ordered Prisma Premier set of 150. When I started swatching them, I noticed several had cracked barrels and a few didn't have leads. I contacted customer service. They informed me I had a defective set of pencils. They replaced them immediately with no issues. I was expecting to be stuck with poor quality pencils but thankfully their customer service was above excellent. I will always make Blicks my first choice when shopping for art supplies.

Issue with Customer Service - Resolved Quickly!
I had a complaint regarding a back-ordered item and getting it shipped once it was back in stock. It did require getting the right person's attention via a bad review but once I did the problem was immediately resolved. I have since had another back-ordered item, which I received, and did not have a problem with it.
I have been purchasing a lot of items from Blick's Art Materials lately and this was my only complaint. The way it was handled ensures I will be a loyal customer for many years to come. That is assuming tariffs do not make art supplies unaffordable.

Paid for overnight shipping on a recent…
Paid for overnight shipping on a recent order and they flat out never shipped it. I'm trying to get to the bottom of it but so far no resolution. Shipping costs aren't cheap and I don't appreciate being charged and then they...just don't ship. Even if they sent it by snail mail it would have been here by now. If they sent it. But they didn't. What is the point ? I got my order confirmation and everything is in stock , never got a shipping confirmation or any communication about a delay or anything at all.

Slow Shipping, Poor Management Decisions, and Misrepresented Products – Beware if Time Matters
Extremely Frustrating Experience – Won’t Be Ordering Again
I’ve been a long-time customer of DickBlick, but this recent experience was a nightmare from start to finish.
It took seven days just to process my order—only because they were reviewing it for a price match (Molotow prices were way above market). Then, one shipment got delayed and held up. I had to call daily, speak to multiple agents, and push to get it shipped. Even so, it took 10 days to reach my client—time-sensitive items where every day mattered.
When I called to complain, I asked for a partial refund to cover the extra cost of paying my artist for three additional hours due to having to replace the wrong acrylic pens. Instead, management canceled the shipment I had been waiting for and sent it back to their warehouse—making my order now two weeks late. I had to reorder the same items and pay more because I couldn’t risk another delay with price matching.
On top of that:
Their phone system doesn’t work (pressing 1 or 2 for customer service doesn’t connect).
A color I ordered (“English Green”) looked teal on their website but was completely different in person—causing a disaster for my client’s branding. I had to go to a store to match the right color and reorder it myself.
I’ve emailed for a return/refund on the misrepresented color and the canceled order—still waiting for a response.
Customer service agents were polite, but management showed zero accountability or willingness to make things right. This is the complete opposite of my seamless experience with them in 2022.
If you need materials quickly or accurately, I highly recommend looking elsewhere—Art Primo shipped right away and there are other suppliers (even with smaller stock) that will save you a lot of stress.
Something has seriously changed at DickBlick, and management needs to fix it.
Note to Dickblick comment below: I reached out to customer service email 7 days now and nothing. The problem is not the phone connection, when I try to dial 1, 2 or 4 to speak to a person, it doesn't work, it won't connect.
Can someone call me pls? I've sent 3 emails now and again nothing. All my contact info is listed. I'm ready to send the items for full refund. Pls advise ASAP.
My review still stands.

Blick was great until...
I had great experiences with Blick until recently when I ordered watercolor paper sheets. The first batch came bent up in a ratty old box. The replacement batch came perfectly packaged with dirty fingerprints on two papers. I have never seen an art supply store ship sheets without any plastic on them in filthy boxes. Edit: I sent photos. The first box was bent out of shape and did not keep the sheets straight. Also dirty fingerprints don't get on paper INSIDE the box. They weren't mine.

I use these 8"X16" canvas panels to hand paint acrylic custom pet portraits and water birds (Great Blue Heron and Great Egret). Blick provides wonderful customer service and stands behind their product.

Bad customer service
Very bad customer service and fulfillment of orders. This company does not meet time commitments and delivered damaged items multiple times. Their offer to remedy this was one $5 certificate for a future purchase. Additionally, the online promotions are misleading- I was given a $25 certificate that only had $10 on it. I will be shopping elsewhere!

Pop-up madness!!!!
I was shopping today for some art supplies. Blick has the Liqutex gel I was looking for. This was my 1st experience with Blicks online store. I could not even look at what I wanted because of numerous pop-ups. Every time I clicked on anything on their site, I got another pop-up. When I tried to add it to my cart, there was another pop-up, so I was done!!! I can’t even complete my order because of your pop-ups.
So I called your 800# and received HORRIBLE customer service, she told me it is my fault. Their website does not have any popups!!! Seriously lady???? I guess she thinks I am this aggravated because of a pleasant online experience with her company??? I mean really how can you accuse a customer? She thinks I installed Blick pop-ups on my computer!!!
edit: Apparently this company doesn't understand what a pop up ad is... I do not have anymore information. I cannot manage your website for you. I have already purchased the art supplies I need from another vendor who didn't have pop ups on the website.

Talk To The Hand
I would be just as effectual to talk to the plaster wall as to talk to customer service. I placed 1 order 2 days ago for $165.46. 2 days later, my bank shows 2 transactions in pending, 1 for $183.95 and 1 for 165.46. The $183.95 and the $165.46 are not available for use within my account. I called Blick and they said this was normal and happens all the time and the $183.95 will drop off in the next few business days. My money is not available for use. To me, the 2 transactions looked like an error or fraud in my account. I wasted 25 minutes arguing over this. Blick says, "Too bad, so sad, we're not fixing the back end of how our systems work." There are surely consumer fraud laws that disallow companies from taking out double the amount and holding until shipping occurs. I've been in business for decades and have seen plenty of vendors put a single transaction in a pending status while the order is being fulfilled, but I've never seen two charges held for 1 transaction with a portion of a person's money being held hostage and unavailable for use. FIX YOUR IT SYSTEMS BLICK!
