I no longer use Dobbies…

I used to really enjoy going to Dobbies for breakfast and then shopping. Since the cafe was changed from being able to see what you were getting to eat to a seat and a menu the food has gone from excellent to absolutely terrible. The food, cakes and coffee are all terrible quality, nothing like it used to be. I have stopped buying the card and no longer visit the place unless it’s for one of the other retailers. If it was possible I wouldn’t even give it one star.

Don’t bother trying to contact Melville Edinburgh

Mission impossible trying to book afternoon tea. We were given a gift card to spend on an afternoon tea. You can’t use it to book online and were advised to contact to book a session. 3 unanswered phone calls that rang out and 2 emails that were not answered even after 3 days. We went to Melville store and told we had to sign a book to request it. Total farce and waste of a 20 mile return trip.

Seems good service is a hit or a miss depending on day!

Seems good service is a hit or a miss, depending what day you go in. Wednesday is a good day, Monday about 2:30, not! Was seated and told someone would take our order shortly……even the people next to us commented about the wait, I had to get up after 15/20 minutes to remind them we were still waiting.
Young person, chewing gum? came and took our order, which arrived pretty quickly. Soup was lukewarm, but sandwiches were good.

Great service

Great service.
I booked an afternoon tea for 5 adults and 1 child, as a birthday/Christmas treat for my mum, unfortunately due to bad snow, 2 of the adults couldn't make it. I checked the t&c's and it said that no amendments could be made on the day of the booking. I was gutted, thinking I'd lost £30+. However, I emailed and they responded saying that they were sorry to hear guests had to cancel, and that they would issue a refund for the ones who couldn't make it.

Simple things, but it's situations like this that make a great company and a successful business.

Stained cups

First visit for my friend , 2nd visit for me. We decided to go for coffee and cake in the huge cafe. Looked beautiful until we got our order. Cups were all tea stained as well as the tea pot. We asked for clean ones but nearly all were the same. Our 2 strawberry tarts were on a base of concrete, we could not break it or bite it. And for all this we were charged £15. Absolute joke. Will never go back

Unacceptable wait for restaurant food, high cost, almost cold soup, cold tea.

Had lunch in their restaurant today, at the Edinburgh branch. They stupidly bring hot tea and coffee first, then let you wait 45 minutes on the food arriving - by which time your tea and coffee are cold. Not very bright are they? Sauce, pepper, and salt missing from multiple tables (ok if you're happy eating bland food). Also ordered a glass of cold tap water which did not arrive (maybe because this is a free item!). (I drank the milk which was meant for the tea instead). The soup which finally arrived was almost cold, and tasted like it was out of a tin (extremely expensive at £6 too). In summary, very expensive (~£30) for the poor service & cold food received. We will not be returning. After the minimum wage rises in April 2025, I would assume they'll need more restaurant customers, not less. I would recommend buying a takeaway such as Fish & Chips (for a bit less cost) instead (no tea & coffee required!), from your local High Street. You can make your own refreshments (tea or coffee) at home.

Dobbies for all the family

Dobbies has wide range of plants, garden equipment, food and a huge variety of gifts and novelty items for for gardeners, non gardeners alike as well as having a great restaurant & cafe facility to suit all.

Excellent customer service.

I had to ask for help regarding two frostproof pots which were peeling and in a bad way. The lovely girl on the customer service desk asked me to contact the person who would deal with my problem by giving me his email address and asked me to also send some pictures. I am pleased to say, I was contacted very quickly and offered replacement pots. When I visited the store, they were waiting for me to pick up. Well done Dobbies for your very caring and efficient staff.

I would not recommend this place to…

I would not recommend this place to anyone in-fact I would avoid this place. You can buy plants at a Garden centre but this place gives you a broken leg, I tripped and fell in their car park, does the management care do they heck. But they did repair the hole where I fell!!! Yes it maybe a long time ago but it’s something you will never forget being treated in such a terrible way. These places have no respect or feelings if a customer gets seriously injured!! Date of injury may 2019 won’t let me put actual date in!!
