We adopted Ruby from the Dogs Trust, Ballymena
We called to the Dogs Trust - Ballymena facility and spoke to member of staff/volunteer who advised us on the process of adopting a dog through them.
We applied online, letting the Dogs Trust know what types of dogs we would be interested in rehoming, then we trusted the process.
We were delighted to receive a call informing us of 3 possible matches and with the information provided we arranged a meet with Ruby. When we called to see Ruby, we knew she was perfect for our family. We quickly arranged a second visit and agreed on the adoption.
The staff and volunteers are top class and we have been delighted to give Ruby her forever home.

I'd happily recommend them
I adopted my dog Benji (then called Booboo) from Dogs Trust in Leeds and was overwhelmingly happy with the overall experience.
I've never had a dog before, so I was quite nervous. But the process was really simple and straightforward. I filled out the adoption form online and answered some questions over the phone. After a while, I was contacted about the dog I ended up adopting.
The people at the centre were very friendly, patient and informative and all in all, the whole process was an extremely easy and pleasant experience. They also seemed to really care about the animals in their care, making sure it was the right fit for both me and the dog. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone else looking to adopt a dog.

The entire process of adopting our puppy was incredible
The entire process of adopting our puppy was seamless and well managed. Every member of the team at Hatfield was helpful and warm and we have felt supported every step of the way. We received an excellent handover, and lots of useful items to get us started on our journey. We cannot be happier with our experience and, most importantly, with our perfect new puppy.

Good experience from a great charity !
We have just adopted a dog from the Dogs Trust Kenilworth Rehoming Centre. We found all of the staff we dealt with at that centre, as well as those on the central phone line helpful, friendly and supportive and the whole process went smoothly. The centre is clean and tidy and welcoming.

Laura was very perceptive, finding us the right dog.
Laura was very perceptive, and was able to suggest the perfect dog. We were able to meet our dog three times before homecoming, and staff were helpful and patient. On the day of handover, she was placed securely in the car before we left. Two days later, a phone call checked in that we were all ok, offered advice and confirmed the next check in details. What a great start for us all

Tracy is a consummate professional …
Tracy is a consummate professional Kind compassionate and good communication from the start. Our adoption was seamless once we could talk. She was an absolute star.
Only difficulty is managing to get direct contact to coordinator, not Tracey’s fault but the process at DogsTrust, iPhone blocks unknown numbers and sends them directly to voicemail, attempts to return her call are to call centre. A message can be left for the site but the loop just repeats as the phone doesn’t recognise the caller ID. It was pure fluke that I happened to have the phone in my hand when she called and I answered.
The whole subsequent integration of the dog at home would be even better if the Adoptee owner listed the specific Commands by name or hand action they used with the dog, the dogs transition would be much easier and ultimately that’s the most important part

Our Customer Support Centre was put in place to increase the number of enquiries that we are able to respond to, as our rehoming centres were finding that their phone lines were very busy, meaning that members of the public were unable to get in touch with the rehoming centres effectively. This also meant that rehoming centre staff were struggling to complete their daily duties of caring for our dogs, as well as providing a high level of customer service to visitors to the rehoming centre. If our Customer Support Centre is unable to answer a query, they will pass it through to the rehoming centre, leaving a message with the rehoming centre to contact the enquirer back if they cannot speak to someone at the time.

Disappointing experience
First registered August 2025 with Dogs Trust, every month I received email saying I'd not been matched to a dog. I'm struggling to understand why when I had phoned about various dogs but not once invited to meet the dog. I have owned dogs for many years, the last dog was a rescue aged 2 and he was with me for 13 years. I did phone to understand what if any issue with my application given I didn't mind dog or girl, up to the age of 6, and a small breed. Several small dogs have appeared over the period of my application (which I had to renew every 3 months) but to no avail. Given we are told how many dogs need a home, I'm struggling to understand the matching process that Dogs Trust operates.

Our adoption applications are general, rather than for a specific dog. We were seeing some dogs receive hundreds of applications, whilst other dogs struggled to receive one. As we can only choose one home for each dog, this was leading to dissatisfaction, but a perfect match might be just around the corner. Our current rehoming process gives every dog an equal chance of finding their forever home.
Once we receive an application, we frequently review your application against the dogs in our care for the next three months. Should we find a suitable match, we'll be in touch to discuss the dog further and invite you to the centre to meet them. We hope to find everyone a suitable match within three months, but if we haven't, we kindly ask that you reapply to keep everything updated.
We are sorry we have been unable to find a match for you as yet.

Adopting Toby from Dogs Trust Merseyside
We see a gorgeous dog online who was at Dogs Trust Merseyside, just as we were going to be spending a few days in Liverpool, so applied to adopt Toby. All the staff were friendly and helpful, from those on reception to the carers and behaviour specialists. Toby had been there for 2 years so everyone knew him. The staff went out of their way to fit in our daily visits to meet and spend time with Toby, and share all their experience with us as well as doing some car training, all during 4 days. So many staff and volunteers had chats with us about Toby and how he would be missed while they were glad he found a home, and he was given many gifts to help him settle. We had such a positive experience of adopting through Dogs Trust, and saw first hand how the dogs welfare is their number 1 priority. We highly recommend them if you want to adopt a dog
