Worst experience EVER
If only i could rate 0 stars!! Atlanta airport pick up. The lady at the desk was very dismissive & rude, she told me i didn't have free additional drivers when i showed her proof. After alot of discussions she took my partners details and said he was on the agreement. When we picked up the car it smelt really bad of smoke, i asked if we could change it back at the desk. I was told we have no other cars come back tomorrow. When leaving the car park the lady at the barrier told us my partner had not been put on the agreement, if she hadn't checked who knows what could have happened, she added him and confirmed i had free additional drivers. The next day i called and asked about the car changing i was told do it in Orlando as we were driving there that day, so that's what we did. When arriving at MCO the lady just laughed at us saying we were being silly and that smoke doesn't matter, i also told her that there was a thudding when accelerating which we had only noticed on the drive. Once again this was funny, i didn't know i was such a comedian. After 1hr we sorted the car and was on our way. I will never use Dollar again. Please read reviews dont use them!!!
Avoid Dollar in Sevilla at all times! It's really a scam!!
Avoid Dollar in Sevilla at all times!! They charge you for damage even before you pick up the car (so at the moment you sign the contract). After returning the vehicle, they provide a damage report and say the damage wasn't there at the time of pickup. So be aware of any minor damage and take pictures, even when you pick up the car at night. Dollar charges the same damage multiple times to many customers
Misinformation regarding Toll charges…
Misinformation regarding Toll charges in Denver - basically the customer representative lied to us in her desperation to sell us an add on. We were told that we would pass through 3 tolls on our way from/to the airport and Dollar would charge us 15USD per toll - alternatively we could pay a 70USD flat fee to cover the toll charges - none of this was true and they ended up charging us 15USD per day, even though apart from driving from and to the airport we spent the whole trip in Wyoming. Usual experience that I have raised this through their Customer Service website and had no response. I know getting us to buy add ons is part of the game, but I would expect that they at least give us truthful information
Be careful renting here
Be careful renting here - fraudulent and abusive behavior. The agent insisted that I needed to upgrade my rental to a 4w drive or I would get a ticket from police. He said driving in Colorado after 1 September requires everyone to have a 4w drive. The manager who identified herself as Angela (no last names were given and I can safely assume they were fake), insisted on the same and was rudely trying to end the conversation with “Are you taking an upgrade or taking the risk?” At some point they threatened to “throw me outside” even though I remained calm and recorded the whole conversation. I pointed out I have pre-paid the rental and the agent said “It will be your problem to get the money back then.”
What you should know is that in Colorado during a certain time perdió (normally 1 September- 31 May), if you take mountain roads, you need either appropriate all season tires (which obviously these rental cars are too cheap to provide) or carry chains. I went to Walmart, got tire chains for $70 and returned them before the trip was over for a full refund.
Further note, the agent failed to tell me that there are toll roads and if you take them (you can totally avoid them but need to set the navigation appropriately), not only will you be charged by Dollar for the toll but also they will charge a hefty admin fee for each toll. So do read the contract carefully
Rented a Mazda Cx5 that had about…
Rented a Mazda Cx5 that had about 24,000 kms use. Nice car, not perfect. We picked it up from Sydney international and drive to our motel returning 2days later, travelled about 120kms.
On return the vehicle inspector noticed a single strand of hair in the boot. He claimed we carried dogs in the car therefore needing steam cleaning.
My wife would have said good buy to our dogs leaving home and her jumper was loose in the boot. Regardless of our honest explanation he would not change his attitude.
Buyer be aware.
They extracted $200 to ‘steam clean’ the whole car - so they claimed.
Once they’ve got your c/c details… look out.
Expect them to look for anyway possible to extract extra money from your account.
Disgusted!!!
Never rent a car at dollar IAH
Never rent a car at dollar IAH. They are scam artists.
they overcharged us.
they illegally rented us a car. So I was the original renter, but when we got there I didnt have my credit card. My husband used his credit card so of course the lady (bunny) was suppose to update the renter to my husband. she never did.
how the heck can you rent a car without any method of payment? you cant! it's illegal. duh.
so Bunny was so lazy she didnt even write a legal contract.
she also overcharged us $248 usd because she refused our AAA cards which we presented to her so we could have an additional driver (spouse) for free.
she also tried to force us to pay almost $300usd for toll fees...we had to argue with her to remove the charge because we were not going to use tolls.
she stomped her feet and had a total spaz. she was really bullying us but finally cancelled that contract.
the second contract is where she overcharged the $248 spousal driver and didn't update the renter to the credit card holder; thereby writing an illegal contract.
We returned the car 22 hours earlier. a few days later we were told there was damage to the vehicle. but the car was unaccounted for for 22 HOURS!!!!!!
We have out boarding passes to prove we left a day earlier and returned the car a day earlier.
Alas we have tried so hard to get a claim going with our insurance and cannot because the renter is not the same as the credit card holder.
so we are screwed now.
i have spent at least 5 hours on the phone, on chat, etc with dollar, hertz, priceline or was it expedia to get this all sorted. nobody cares. they all heard me and said they cannot help.
never ever rent from these guys they are crooks.
never go to dollar iah they are criminals over there.
i now have to go to court and hire a lawyer to protect us from these predatory car rental people.
Misled, stranded, and charged for a service that never existed. Avoid Dollar at all costs
I’ve rented cars all over the world and never encountered anything like Dollar at Denver Airport.
After a long-haul flight from the UK, I was told at the counter that my booked SUV wasn’t allowed into the mountains because it wasn’t AWD. The agent pointed to a Chevrolet Tahoe through the window, offered it as an “AWD upgrade” for $10 a day, then switched it for a Toyota Highlander, a completely different car and quietly added a “Premium Road Service” charge instead. That’s what they billed me for. Not an upgrade. A fake roadside cover.
When the Highlander inevitably broke down hundreds of miles from Denver - flashing engine light, limp mode, safety systems disabled - Dollar’s “premium service” amounted the suggestion that I accompany the car over 600 miles back to Denver on a recovery truck and then drive all the way back myself. They even tried to sell me a tiny sedan for $600 a day under a new contract.
I was left stranded in rural Idaho, forced to arrange my own replacement vehicle with Avis (who were excellent, for the record).
Dollar’s complete lack of integrity, competence, or accountability cost me over $2,400 and a full day of my trip to Yellowstone.
Their business model appears to rely on deception at the counter and abandonment once they have your money. Avoid Dollar like the plague. Go with literally anyone else.

Was not happy with our experience at Dollar. We waited over two hours for a car to become available. We had paid extra, $70, for 1 am pick up and did not receive a car until 330 am. There were fees added at the end which added over $100 and were not included in the original agreement. Will not be booking again.
Extremely disappointing experience
Extremely disappointing experience. After paying, checking in and confirming my reservation, I was told there were no cars available. The line was long, and multiple customers were told the same thing.
The only “solution” offered was to pay for a “manager’s special” — which magically had cars available — but it was only an upgrade option, not a fix for their shortage. It felt like a bait-and-switch tactic.
If you’ve already booked and paid, expect delays, frustration, and added costs. I’ll be avoiding Dollar Rental at Phoenix Airport in the future and recommend others do the same.

I would give them 0 or minus if i could. They charged me extra 206 cad for no f…reason without any explanation whats it for. Dealing with my bank to get that money back from them. They Sent already tons of weird docs for charges but no evidence there. Avoid them
A rental company which may or may not have cars...
Really disappointed with Dollar. We arrived on Sunday night after a flight from the UK. We had reserved a vehicle through Holiday Autos months ago but when we went to the desk, all 40 or so of us in the queue got basically turned away as they had no cars. Apparently, according to the guy who works behind the desk, this is a weekly problem. Due to corporate greed, they oversell but the result for us is that we were left stranded, at night, with a 3 year old and a 5 month old in the airport unable to get to our accommodation and hour and a half away.
There was no real apologies other than a bit of a "never mind, get over it" from the staff, one of the staff members threatened to call security on us because we were (unsurprisingly) showing our frustration. We had to pay out of pocket for a taxi to drive us an hour and a half to our accommodation, obviously this was very expensive and something Dollar should compensate us on, as well as us paying for Sunday when we didn't get the car until Monday.
We went back the next day (Monday) and managed to get a car, the person at the desk was very apologetic for the way Dollar works and in his words their "corporate greed" and the frustrating thing was that we couldn't confirm before hand if there was one. We had to travel an hour and a half back to Boston Logan airport in the hope there may be a car as the Dollar Customer Service didn't even have a number for the rental desk at the airport to check!!
Overall, this is all incredibly disappointing. There were two of us who both booked Dollar and he actually did get an apology from the Operations Director, but I did not. We should both be receiving reimbursement and compensation. I will not be using Dollar again.
Had a email confirmation of booking - all became a disaster.
Had an email confirmation of booking. Was told at the pick up desk that booking agreement was not on the system. Waited 1 hour while the dollar’s receptionist tries to reach his manager who was at church, during his working day! Eventually we walked away. Absolutely a complete circus with lots of clowns making mistake after mistake. Never got the car, day was ruined.
Charged extra fees I wasn’t even told…
Charged extra fees I wasn’t even told about. All I wanted to pay extra was so I didn’t have to fill the tank on drop off but after paying for the rental I have been charged an extra $300
Charged extra day!
Dollar deducted an extra day rental, from deposit money when car was returned fully fuelled, no damage and well within contracted time. Have sent fuel dockets to prove dates, rung up and emailed with boarding pass to prove date of return. Rip off indeed!
Do not use dollar
If I could leave 0 stars I would. We made a reservation, flew from Florida, even CONFIRMED the booking on our layover only to land in Buffalo and find out there are no Dollar Agents in site and all the other companies tell us they ran out of cars. This is absolutely unacceptable. You allow people to make a reservation, tell them they’ll have a car and then give them all away?! What the actual hell?! What kind of business model is this? Do better.
Caviat Emptor
The hire car was fine, the service was fine, and everyone was pleasant, but... after a 7 hr flight we picked up the car at YYZ and asked how much it would be to add my wife as a driver. We were told $13.50. seemed like a bargain, and as they already had my details asked to add her to the cover.
What we were NOT told was, this was per day, plus taxes, and upon arrival home had almost £90 owing to Dollar. Expedia tried to mediate on our behalf but were not successful.
Caviat Emptor indeed.
total rip off avoid
Got to desk in Dublin Airport was adviced that unless i give them a guarantee of 35,000.00 euro on my credit card they won t let me have the car i have purchased seperately a yearly excees insurance which covers me up to 3,000.00 per rental guy was very rude and the rental value went from 102.00 euros to 229,00 for euro complaint to Hertz Dollar but it felt on death ears also was told the car had no damanges when i checked there was 15 individual damages which i got them to record. Aviod this company and their employees who are probably on comission to rip you off. Got a reply form customer service today that ignored my complaint "We are truly sorry for the way you were treated by our staff. It is never acceptable for any employee to behave in a manner that causes a customer to feel bullied or disrespected. We are actively investigating this incident and will take appropriate steps to ensure such behavior is not repeated" nothing aboutb being overcharged and rip off. For hertz Rental agreement was 800884836
Beware: Booking Price Not Respected at Dollar Greensboro
We had a very disappointing experience with Dollar in Greensboro, North Carolina. Our booking through Booking.com clearly showed a total price of $148.36, but when we arrived to pick up the car, the staff refused to respect the agreed price. Instead, they forced us to pay $310.61, claiming that the extra amount was for a “mandatory insurance.”
This was extremely frustrating because in all my previous rentals (both with Booking and other platforms) a basic insurance was always included in the advertised price. It felt like a trap and a form of coercion: either accept paying more than double, or be left without a car at the start of our trip.
Such practices are misleading, unfair, and leave customers in a very bad position. I would strongly advise others to avoid renting with Dollar, especially in Greensboro, as they do not honor the original booking price and pressure customers into paying much more than agreed.
Absolute conmen
Absolute conmen
After paying In full I was told that the car didn't have adequate insurance and that I couldn't have it unless I paid a additional $155 dollers. Luckily the company I booked the car through manage to get back this extra payment.
