Unwatchable (live) streaming service
Just to add to all the other various complaints...
It's bad enough that DSTV are 'selective' on which TV manufacturers they 'support' for their app, and even selective on specific models on those they do..... I own a Panasonic (brought with me when I came to SA) - who may not make the LATEST models, but they make the best quality products on the market. BTW - my TV does support likes of Youtube, Netflix etc, but NOT the DSTV app.....
So, whilst their app for Android and IOS does seem to work ok-ish for live streaming, in order to watch live streaming (ie. sport as, WHY else would you be paying their extortionate 'Premium' package, and they pretty much have a broadcast MONOPOLY in the SA market/geography...And VERY ironically, their recent Ad campaign bangs on incessantly about "choose choice"..!!) I have to resort to watching on my (HP) laptop, via a browser-based session and, plug my laptop into the TV to watch the big sports events on a bigger screen
So, here's the thing: even though their Ad campaign - also goes on about 'streaming your favourite events in less than 10 mins' and they clearly show/claim to support streaming to hand-held devices AND laptops/desktops. However, they are apparently TOO LAZY to produce an 'app for Windows' and TOO STUPID/LAZY to at least set up the HTML5/RTP (browser) session with sufficient read-ahead buffering to make up for their - frankly pathetic - streaming infrastructure/service, the same way their Android/IoS app covers up (mostly) that poor service. I occasionally have screen-mirrored their app on my Android phone to my TV which does not NOT suffer the same streaming 'under-run' that the browser session does, but screen-mirroring has its limitations when it comes to 'high movement' (screen/frame change data) such as rugby, football etc, and the image quality can suffer - understandably.
So, despite SEVERAL conversations over the last ~12 months with DSTV support, who in my experience are useless at the best of times, they repeatedly insisted blaming my Broadband provider ( "60Mbps fibre service", which DOES deliver that bandwidth level), my machine - high-spec HP EliteBook - and then even blamed the browser, even though I stated the SAME under-run occurs when trying Chrome, Edge, Firefox etc.
Having worked in IT (Network Design and Unified Communcations, IPTV etc) for 32+ years, I tried explaining to DSTV that even a '60Mbps fibre service' may normally have the occasional very short (milliseconds, normally) congestion at aggregation point(s), where some frame-loss can occur, or at least Jitter measurement will change, and that the DSTV device App (like YouTube, Netflix etc) has been designed with read-ahead and/ior Jitter busting buffers to cope with this, and they COULD do the same with an HTML-based session and solve the UNWATCHABLE 'service' I currently experience daily. But they were simply not interested... I might as well be speaking Greek to them.......
So I gave up trying and I for one hope that the Canal+ development will see some big change, both technicallly and culturally, and their arrogance (born from being a monopoly) to the various issues raised by large numbers of customers, will be addressed fully as an outcome.
For now, I have the prospect of TRYING to watch the US Open Golf over the next 4 days, with the streaming dropping out as much as every few minutes..... There's a great few months of sport coming up - T20 Cricket, 'The Euros' (football), Wimbledon, The Open, The Olympics, and its all likely to be largely ruined for me by a company that is - unsurprisingly - losing customers in their droves.
Simply put: it's a good job DSTV don't make beer, as their company Xmas parties would be the worst ever ('p***-up-in-a-brewery' etc.)
PS If reading this far (!) you might be thinking 'why not try an Android emulator for Windows', and run the DSTV app etc. I tried the two most popular emulators, and tried a fair amount of settings for both, but could not get the DSTV app to 'be happy' with the 'device'.
PPS.... and NO, I don't see why I should put up a satellite dish (+ pay MORE for Premium) when I have a perfectly good broadand fibre being paid for, plus the Western Cape weather (storms) coming through in next 3 months mean that even a satellite signal will likely get disrupted quite frequently. Nor have I entertained the idea of a 'streaming' box to plug into my TV, as a) the cost of the device and b) I can see plenty of complaints online about those too.......
Update (27/06) after enduring the torture/ruin of my (live) viewing of the US Open, then the T20 Cricket and the Euro 2024 (football), with the latter two still in progress plus Wimbledon, The Open and Olympics coming up, I will now try a Google/Android streaming box (kindly donated by a family member) with my TV.... :-((

We called DSTV at first the consultant said the SIM was in active she had escalated the matter .

They keep on telling me the same thing that my matter has been escalated. This is the worst service I have received from dstv. They don't care about their customers. DSTV approves/appoints only 1 local service provider in Bloemfontein - who provides absolutely the WORST service imaginable. Since Mond morning, just after 9, till today Friday 16:37 still the same unable to watch tv, I phoned 3 times today, to make sure they were going to come and address issue (all positive, we on our way) only now to hear, sorry- no such luck, hopefully tomm morning.

Why isn't dstv streaming working on…
Why isn't dstv streaming working on cellphones???? We have the premium package with 2 upgraded decoders. I tried logging onto the app on my cellphone but couldn't access any of the channels I normally watch. If there is a problem, kindly get a technician to sort the bloody thing out!!!!! The decoders are on my husband's name, Mr R B Misthry.
You need to get a human to answer questions on your WhatsApp, as it's clearly useless to waste data adding DSTV WhatsApp, unless there are signs of intelligent life there.

I've been trying to contact Dstv via email the past 4 days because it looked like the debut order did not go through then I needed to pay a fee for that also which I feel is unfair towards me.
The fee did not go through because the debit amount was incorrect.
When I sent a email questioning this I received the most bull **** answer:"Kindly be advised the payment for 31-03-2024 and 05-05-2024 was not successful. the total of R 2088.84 it includes subscription of April and May 2024."
Ok so now in which universe should I pay for April and May? I'm due March. Now I'm told that I have to pay April even though we were 5 days in April and May needs to be paid even though May have not been started.. Multiple times I've asked this to be explained to me because I clearly do not understand this logic. Because according to me this is not how life works and its not the first time. I've received that one email and that's it. I tried making a payment the payment got accepted then declined because it was not amount due, now the money is taken off my account. The amount should still be returned but yet i still have to make another payment. Do you guys think we just have money laying arounf like that when mistakes on your end is not corrected? I asked several times please update my account, give me a correct amount due so I can manually make the payment and nothing.
Now what's really annoying me that this morning my account have been puased. What the hell is reason you have a CS departmen? Why is it that I have this expensive package if there is so many issues?

Oh WOW.. Where do I even begin? I'm a widow raising 3 kids whom I try to pay dstv for to watch. However for 2 months I have made payments on my subscriptions but would always get disconnected every week and each time I call, I am asked to pay another reconnection fee plus the subscription service because my "payment was not allocated". That's the excuse I always get. Guys please, if there is anyone who is in the legal services, I need your help to sue this company for fraudulently taking my hard earned cash. I paid another amount on the 1st of April and I was disconnected on the 8th again. I called in and asked why I was disconnected, none of the agents including their "manager" called Dini were able to explain why. She then promised to call me back to reconnect after discovering they were in the wrong... However, I remain with adverts playing on my TV till date. Can I please have someone reach out to me who can help me fight for my consumer rights because this company has gotten too far with their behaviour.

My internet package has not been reloaded until today.
I have been asking them how do I reconnect my Netflix account to my dstv bill.
I cant get all my dstv compact channels on the dstv stream app.
Everytime I chat to one of their agents on web chat they either end the chat or tell me to delete the streaming app and re-download which I have 3 times already.
They say when you log into Netflix on the TV it will automatically add it to the dstv bil but i have done that 10 times already it reconnects me to the web page on my browser.
The web hat agents won't even talk about the fact that my data has not reloaded for the month.
When I call all they say is that they are having technical issues.
That's been happening from the 26th of March.
Which is sad because other then the service dstv is reletively good

You sit on the phone more than an hour without help. You phone again you get a different consultant who is worse than the other. You cannot get to.management and even if you flag for call back nothing happens. They are quick to take out contract and bill you but they wont attend to your problems.They are the monopoly and just show the middle finger.
