Review summary

Based on reviews, created with AI

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the customer service, finding it unhelpful and difficult to reach a real person. They also encountered issues with payments, including incorrect amounts, delays, and unexplained deductions. Reviewers frequently report problems with the staff, describing them as rude, dismissive, and incompetent. The overall service is often criticized for being poor, with many feeling that their concerns are not listened to and that they receive incorrect information. However, some customers also noted positive experiences with individual staff members, describing them as amazing, professional, and helpful in resolving issues. These positive interactions often involved staff going out of their way to assist and provide peace of mind.

Chronic harassment of my blind brother

My brother recently lost his sight completely and is currently trying to cobble his life back together at 33. He is taking a college course which needed some screen reader software to complete the coursework and was awarded a grant for the software which costs £995. This required proof of purchase which has been provided to the DWP many times, I even contacted the company with to obtain an official invoice and letter confirming payment had been made but they keep sending him letters saying he hasn't provided any proof so he will now have to pay out of his own pocket when he doesn't have any money. No one at the job center has any empathy for the situation and know very well they are not held accountable to anyone, so cant be bothered to lift a finger to correct the situation. Then comes the transfer to universal credit for his housing benefit. It was supposed to be a seamless transfer but of course they spelled his name wrong and messed it all up so keep writing to him to say they will be ending his benefits so he wont have anywhere to live. this is not what he needs after the shock and depression of becoming blind. This is disgusting treatment of the venerable people in our society and if the government forces people with severe disabilities to deal with the DWP and Job Centre they should have people trained in handling these cases, not uncaring lazy people who seem to get a rise out of being difficult.

I DO NOT OWE THEM THIS KIND OF MONEY

Rang them up immediately in absolute shock I was told a case worker will get back to me this was last Monday and I have not heard anything yet, so presuming that this complaint will lay dormant in the system

as fair as I am aware the entire public services are rundown and infested with issues

Abysmal service from DWP

My Mother died 1 year ago,she was in a care home when she died , the DWP made contact stating that her savings should not be distributed yet because of a possible over payment from DWP,this is confusing because mum was a self funder and therefore entitled to keep her benfits, which was only DLA anyway.
DWP have ignored requests for information and clarification of what this over payment is despite making a formal complaint to the Senior Manager of Debt Management and involving local MP.
Its frustrating that the DWP just doesn’t care and they don’t even deserve 1 star

Accountability dodgers

Contacted me about money I owed for an advance I took out with them. The website they provided to set up the direct debit did not work, and I was not able to get through to anyone on the phone with the numbers they provided to set this up.

They are now taking money out of my paychecks which is far too much. I am behind on bills, and have to go without buying food sometimes. I have not been able to get through to anyone to fix this.

Get a job yourself don't trust these fraudulent conniving evil people

Got a letter out of the blue saying that I owed them money from over 15 years ago but when I tried to speak with them I was put on hold and then they dropped the call on at least several occasions when I was looking for jobs and had interviews for managerial roles they did nothing to help me other than talk down to me and at least 3-4 occasions I was supposed to have telephone interviews with them it didn't happen but they would mark it down as they have called which is fraud they expect you to jump through hoops like a circus animal but won't actually do anything to help you in slightest

Don't give these idiots at debt management the time of day. They came after me after 13 years of a debt my ex wife had and because I was married to her I owed half. They went into my salarie and took 600 pound after a set up a direct debit to pay 100 a month.
This has put my house at risk and they when on the phone they just put phone down on me.

DWP are totally incompetent. My disabled sister received a redemption letter to change to universal credit . As she has severe learning difficulties. I called them on her behalf and spoke to a member of staff . After giving all relevant info to him he wanted a mobile number so they can text sister when I explained she do not have a mobile as she do not know how to use them he told me someone would contact her to confirm. However no one contacted her and now her benefit have been stopped with no explanation or even a letter explaining why . Not everyone can use a mobile or the Internet and now I have contacted Meriden News informing them that DWP has stop my sisters money so how is she supposed to live . The most vile department ever .

Got intouch with me regarding £166 i owed them, no idea what it was for? I've been in my current job 8 years btw, so this is old. Anyway i ignored it thinking it was a mistake but then they got Intouch with my employer and sent them legal request to basically deduct 7% of my monthly earnings to pay this £166 back.
As it's such a small amount i cannot be arsed chasing it up but it goes to show the state of the uk government, chasing me for a £166 8-9 year old debt 🤣 tossers.

My recent phone contact with the DWP…

My recent phone contact with the DWP was extremely frustrating. The representative I spoke with had very poor spoken English, which made the conversation difficult from the beginning. I found myself repeatedly having to either ask them to repeat themselves or re-explain what I was saying, which turned what should have been a straightforward call into a long and exhausting exchange.

Even more disappointing, the information I was eventually given turned out to be incorrect. When I politely challenged the accuracy of what they had told me, the representative simply hung up on me rather than addressing my concerns or seeking clarification. This was not only unhelpful, but entirely unprofessional.

When people call the DWP, it’s usually because they need clear, accurate guidance. Instead, I was left feeling more confused and unsupported than before, while also dealing with unnecessary discourtesy. A more competent, respectful, and professional approach is urgently needed.

Vulnerable people at risk!

They don't know how to treat vulnerable adults, the staff has not been trained to deal with reasonable adjustments, communication or explanation. Complaint process are not followed and they deliberately put people in situations that can lead to poverty or further financial struggles. Disgusting service overall and an urgent review of how DWP deal with people is needed as a priority.
