Terrible experience with grossly underpricing a claim

Awful experience with them having grossly underpriced our claim and therefore causing further delays. They were appointed by Sedgwicks working in conjunction with Intact insurance to do a desktop review on a sewage leak in PL14 and I’d already noticed they underpriced a lot of people’s claims here when they work together with Sedgwicks/RSA/Intact.

They are NOT independent or neutral despite what they claim, their job is to underprice to keep costs down for the insurers.

This is a disgrace and shouldn’t be allowed legally and should be regulated properly. They consistently underprice jobs which is why they work primarily for insurance companies.

The Financial Onbudsman has found in our favour in our first complaint with RSA/Intact because the Loss Adjustor from Sedgwicks denied us reasonable adjustments after my husband had just come out of hospital with a stroke and because I said I was going to complain so he drew up a completely inadequate schedule which left out half the work that needed to be done which Ellipta then was asked to quote on. Despite having all the photos and videos to hand they concluded it would be less than half of 2 quotes from independent recognised building contractors who are established and build houses as well as repair them and were coming in within a thousand pounds of each other.

My husband went into shock hearing about all the work that was needed when I’d specifically asked the day before not to have conversations in front of him but this was ignored by the Sedgwicks man and my husband went into shock and a second complaint has now been put in with Intact as it’s over 6 months now and nearly 7 since our house was flooded with Sewage and between Sedgwicks and Ellipta Ltd they have allowed our home to deteriorate and the delays have caused us harm physically and mentally with my husband having another stroke which I blame Sedgwicks and Ellipta for as this has been ongoing since mid Oct last year and my BP escalated to 180/109 during the revisit as the adjustor from Sedgwicks was so awful.

I will be appointing an independent surveyor and solicitor from here and taking action against them for being completely unprofessional and breaking Building regulations under the Housing Act as well as the Equalities Act for denying us reasonable adjustments, trying to blackmail us by saying they won’t raise the price unless they get access to the house again when my husband is undergoing life saving surgery 6 hours away and regarding sewage treatment and disposal. They’ve already had a building surveyor in, a loss adjustor and a man from Revival Blue!

Sedgwicks wanted to paint over plasterboard that’s been penetrated by sewage when all official bodies state any surface or wood that’s porous needs to be replaced not repaired as it gives off toxic fumes when sewage comes into contact with, especially with gypsum in the plasterboard so between them Sedgwicks and Ellipta agreed with this which would leave our home completely unfit for living, unsafe and unsanitary if I didn’t make a formal complaint to Intact and fight to have our kitchen replaced after it was flooded with sewage. Nearly 7 months later and I’m still fighting to have this put right.

Please check who your insurers are using for loss adjusters and avoid Sedgwicks and Ellipta or you could end up like we have

Ellipta and RSA double act for delay, deceit, and disappointment

Ellipta and the names RSA, Rainbow, and Sedgewick appear a lot on here,They were all involved in my experience. RSA and Ellipta go back a long way RSA presented Ellipta with an award for excellence back in 2010 & 2016, RSA and Ellipta both have a close understanding of each others needs. RSA instructed Ellipta on my claim, straightforward, and uncomplicated, until Ellipta became involved and made matters immeasurably worse, not answering correspondence, promising schedules that never arrive, taking wrong decisions, and moving slower than snails pace despite encouragement. Apathetic to the ultimate degree, don't care about customer welfare, inconvenience, and communication. Check out the number of times RSA and Ellipta feature together in complaints with the same incidents of delay, apathy, time wasting. Incompetence, or orchestrated frustration.
RSA know of the situation but do not act even the CEO of Nationwide who sold us the policy Debbie Crosbie has had complaints, but clearly Ellipta deliver what RSA want, so they are continued to be patronised, at the policyholders expense.Rapid response is their logo, in eight months they did nothing.

Ellipta - the path from stress to success

After months of frustration, Ellipta proved that professionalism and genuine care can completely change an insurance claim experience.

I had seven long & stressful months of delays and poor progress on my building insurance claim following a leak - to say I was relieved when Andrew from Ellipta took over would be an understatement. From that moment I felt I could finally breathe again & relax, knowing the reinstatement works would be in safe hands & that I might actually get my house back again.

Andrew’s independent survey was thorough, professional, and gave me the clarity that both the insurance company and I needed. He kept me informed at every stage, explained things clearly, and moved the process forward efficiently. His recommendation of a contractor for the reinstatement work was spot on — the whole experience became smoother and far less stressful & I was reassured to know that he would be personally visiting the property during works to ensure all was going to plan.

I can’t thank Ellipta enough for their professionalism, integrity, and care. Thank you for giving me my house back. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone needing expert support with an insurance claim.

Excellent company

I have found Ellipta to be an excellent company to deal with. Graeme Wakefield has been very efficient, helpful and supportive during the restoration of my home, which had to be completely stripped out due to extensive water damage. It helped greatly to have nice people to deal with at such a traumatic time.

When advised by my insurance company…

When advised by my insurance company that Ellipta had been instructed to conduct a survey of my property after a flood in March of this year.
I read the reviews on trust pilot and became extremely anxious and apprehensive of what I read, Immediately I contacted the senior Loss adjuster whom had been appointed to my claim, he reassured me and I decided to give the surveyor from Ellipta the benefit of doubt, his name was Gary from West Yorkshire, Gary arrived on time, was polite and professional and carried out a survey in a professional manner, I am pleased to say that my claim has now been resolved.
Thank you Gary.

And that's been generous

And that's been generous! Got flooded in October 2023 came out in Nov. No communication between us and the builder. Still know where near moving home because of the shoddy workman. No-one checking in on the work been carried out. 😡
We are now in a worse state than when started 7+ months ago.

My personal experience of Ellipta

Regarding Ellipta.org, I can only speak from my personal experience and what happened to me and Ellipta tried to have my review deleted from here and I had to provide proof to Trust Pilot of the veracity of my statements: which I did.

In Oct 2021, a surveyor from Ellipta, working for RSA, came to 'survey' my home as it was damaged by an escape of water. Ellipta's surveyor left out of his report considerable and very visible damage using visual guesswork alone, he did not conduct any chemical water profiling testing. He left out damage from several areas, including whole rooms and most of the kitchen damage. This related to damage from (1) the actual escape of water and (2) the damage made by trace and access plumbers trying to find the concealed leak and (3) damage caused by the re routing of my water supply pipes internally downstairs after the concealed leak was found and fixed.

Most kitchen units, though sodden with water and covered in black mould were left out of his 'survey', he said they just needed mould cleaning and to be put back in even though they were beyond economic repair and destroyed by the escape of water and this was clearly visible to the most untrained of eyes.

I argued with the home insurance about these very serious and worrying omissions based on visual guesswork by the Ellipta surveyor, who was biased in the favour of the insurance company.

And, without revisisting the property, he 're did' his survey, and regurgitated the same report but added in some, but not all, of the damaged kitchen units to be replaced and other areas! Proving a pre emptive dismassal of damages to keep costs down.

So, Ellipta, the same surveyor did a second report which was also full of omissions including most of the trace and access and pipe re routing damages-he called these 'pre existing' and these were huge square cut out in walls where new pipes were going through and huge square cut outs in walls where leaks were looked for, were, by Ellipta.org considered to be 'pre existing' damage as if those holes in my walls were already, magically there to allow new pipes to go through.

Also, the utility room, chemically tested for nitrates and which had NO nitrates from rising damp in its walls and had water board water chlorides in its walls, but the Ellipta surveyor, with NO water profiling testing stated 'pre existing rising damp' and left it out of both his reports.

As you can imagine, the surveying report omissions, resulted in the costs coming right down at RSA and a HUGE delay on the insurance claim, so the claim had to go to the Financial Ombudsman service which was another year's delay on the claim and then to Court.

In the meantime, through independent expert evidence, including water profiling, RSA have since agreed many of the damages that Ellipta.org left out of their two surveys were, in fact, real damages proving the Ellipta surveyor was, at the very least, biased in favour of the insurer to keep their costs down, way, way down!

If the Ellipta survey had been properly carried out with water profiling the huge delays and huge hassle with RSA would have not been caused.

So, what is interesting is that instead of doing chemical carbonate water profiling tests even on areas that Ellipta acting for RSA thought were contentious they just visual looked at areas and decreed ‘that’s pre existing’ leaving out whole rooms, areas and swathes of damage. Chemical damp testing would have ruled out the ‘pre existing’ guesswork, so they did not do a thorough assessing job on my house and this is my own personal experience. I have all the subsequent testing data to prove it for the areas Ellipta left out of the survey and there were a lot.

So, I would NOT recommend them and this review only is to help/warn others. Of course, I can only give my own personal experience about the truth of what happened to me with Ellipta who were acting with Rainbow on behalf of RSA on the claim.

I have the two Ellipta reports and the independent expert evidence that proved their omissions were inaccurate and erroneous and they based their omissions on visual looks only not any testing, so that was a breach of the duty of care at the minimum.

I was unaware of the level of corruption on insurance claims before meeting this firm, but now I am fully cognisant.

Ellipta was employed, with my agreement, by my insurance company to take over restauration after completion of drying out processes. They have fulfilled none of these criteria listed above on their website. I was told I would receive the results of a survey within a few days which took a month, leaving me without knowing if my property was safe to return to and seriously delaying the restoration process. They did not provide tradespeople to restore the property leaving me in a desperate ongoing situation having to « camp » in a damp, water damaged and half empty property without full cooking facilities despite a recently installed new kitchen. Did not contact me once me to keep me informed of progress or to arrange appointments. I had to contact them every time. Unfriendly staff compared to those in other organisations I have had to deal with.

After establishing a scope of work I was informed by my insurers they put the work out to tender with three contractors. The first refused the job and the company left it at that and walked out, to excuse the pun, leaving me completely « high and dry » and in an extremely precarious and tragic situation.

Yell.com reviews

From Ellipta’s response which is not entirely factually correct:
“it was reported to your insurer that your property could not be reinstated at the time because there were non-insurance-related issues that needed to be addressed first before any work could safely be carried out. This included rot, historic cracking, potential asbestos, and rising dampness which are generally not covered by insurance and are related to inherent defects within your property.”

Ellipta’s visit on 21/04/2023
CERTIFICATE FOR IDENTIFICATION OF ASBESTOS FIBRES issued 31.01.23

Update 9 November 2023
I believe Ellipta recognises their response to my review is factually incorrect, unethical and reprehensible. If not, there is something radically wrong.

Update 21 November 2023
Serious and detrimental disconnect between RSA and Ellipta to te policy holder’s cost!

Reply from Ellipta Ltd.

We are sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with some elements of your experience with Ellipta’s involvement in your claim. I have spoken to the office that was involved to get a better understanding of what Ellipta’s role was and precisely what your insurer instructed Ellipta to do. Ellipta was instructed on 06/04/2023 to attend, inspect and compile a report relating to Escape of Water damage you claimed occurred to your property on 17/12/2022. Shortly after Ellipta’s visit on 21/04/2023, it was reported to your insurer that your property could not be reinstated at the time because there were non-insurance-related issues that needed to be addressed first before any work could safely be carried out. This included rot, historic cracking, potential asbestos, and rising dampness which are generally not covered by insurance and are related to inherent defects within your property. Ellipta received correspondence from your insurer on 09/06/2023 stating you had indicated over the phone to them that you were aware of the pre-existing issues and that they did not form part of your claim. Sadly, Ellipta’s role is limited to reinstate insurance-related issues. We are more than happy to discuss this further and invite you to contact our Customer Focus Unit on 01233 505150.

Inept, Unprofessional, incapable Company

If you have the misfortune to claim on your insurance, please do make your life worse if Ellipta are appointed to your claim. Refer back to your insurance company and validate any so called Engineering Consultants. You would NOT want them appointing or managing your works.

Surveyors are poor and weak. They seem to be controlled by the appointed builder who uses the insurance works as a fill in for other private works, so your works never gets completed.

Using one-man band builders to carry out major works to save money. Disgraceful management of projects leading to massive delays. Total blame culture… its everyone else’s fault.

The only 'Solutions' they provide is Pi$$ poor performance.
