Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 45 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers reported receiving fines for tolls or vignettes they had already paid, often despite providing proof. These charges frequently escalated significantly, including excessive administrative fees, even for small initial amounts. Contacting the company proved difficult, with automated responses and an inability to reach a helpful representative. Reviewers found their payment evidence often ignored, leading to continued pursuit for increasing fines. Poor communication and slow response times exacerbated issues, leaving many frustrated and without recourse. Some customers found the process made contesting original amounts difficult, leading to concerns about the charges.

Absolute scammers

Absolute scammers. Even though they will reply that they aren't.

Had x3 fines for driving in Hungary. My mistake. Their letter said it can be maximised to x2 fines. The letter also said there is no extension for appeals.

So to be safe I paid x2 fines and asked for the 3rd to be closed, to maximise. They said "No" due to not having more than 2 fines open. BUT THATS BECAUSE I ALREADY PAID 2.

I wrote again to ask them to refund and re-open, then maximise. Now they CONVENIENTLY have not responded. Before it took 10 days to reply. I wrote again on 17th December, STILL NO REPLY.

So I have paid the x3rd fine (to avoid escalation). I am going to file a complaint. And if they do not refund me the 3rd ticket, I'll seek legal advice and go from there.

Shameful scamming company.

Website not working properly at all

Tried to register two Dutch cars for a vacation trip to London. I created an account, managed to submit the details of one of the cars, but then got logged out, probably because of inactivity. Tried to login again but couldn't. Clicked on the password reset option, filled in my email address, submitted, but didn't receive a password reset link. In fact, I didn't get a confirmation of creating an account and registering a car either. I created another account to register the other car. Didn't get any confirmation either. Checked spam folders as well but nothing there. Logged out and tried to log in again but failed. So now I have no clue if the cars are now approved for the emission zones. No possibility to contact them. Will probably get fined... Interesting business model...

Highway Robbery

On a recent holiday driving through Europe, I bought vignettes for every country that required one. After my return I received a PCN a couple of months later, for not having a valid vignette for driving on the toll roads in Hungary.
I checked and I had bought a vignette, with the correct registration details of my car. Further examination showed they had entered the country code as RO (not UK), which I presumed at the time was the country I was arriving from. It was their clerical error, for which I now have to pay.
As far as I was concerned I had done everything correctly; bought a vignette and checked the registration, which is all that is required in every other country.
I have appealed providing evidence, but heard nothing back, unsurprisingly. Under duress I have now paid, but reading other peoples reviews, I will not be surprised if they claim I haven't paid.
This is literally highway robbery - at least Richard Turpin wore a mask! (I had to change the name because of inappropriate language)

The same problem as you

The same problem as you, I passed through Hungary on August 24, 2024, I paid the vignette and that woman maybe it was early in the morning and didn't drink her coffee because instead of 0 she put O on the car number, I only received the fine in November, I appealed, no answer, I decided to pay so as not to have legal problems and I made the payment directly to the bank account showd on the fine and when I called customer services they said that the fine was not paid, I sent the proof payment, but it seems like you're talking to the walls, no one answers the e-mail and the customer services don't help you at all, I suspect that the fine will increase even if I paid it.

Had the same scam experience everyone…

Had the same scam experience everyone had with this fraud company. Went to Portugal on vacation on July 2023 and had a paid vignette with Pagatelia (via-T). I received two notifications and fines for Eur18,81 and Eur112,45. Pagatelia in Spain did not take responsibility although they claim you can drive through via-verde in Portugal. I paid. Today I received a notification from this fraud company EPCPlc saying I still have to pay. I’m starting a case with my lawyers against all of these companies. Don’t even bother to reply I should write an email to have my case reviewed by your company. Do your job and go after the companies hired by you to bully people into paying fraudulent fines. Fraud, scam, thieves, that’s what you are.

This Has To Be Illegal. Despite Providing Proof & Receipt They Continue To Harass Me For Payment

This company is trying to force me to pay money despite having sent proof I registered my credit card prior to using a toll road in Portugal. I sent the receipt via their website and also via the email address they tell you to send it to but they've completely ignored my receipt and rejected my appeal twice and continue to try to force me to pay with threats of increased fines. This is causing me considerable stress but I'm not going to pay fines when I've not broken the law and fully complied with the requirements. I feel like I'm banging my head against the wall with this company as they drag out the process and try to intimidate me into paying. Having already tried to appeal through their official processes, it is apparent they have no interest in resolving genuine appeals and are only interested in forcing people to make payment whether they have committed a violation or not. They have unfortunately left me with no option but to leave this negative review about their conduct and take this matter further through a number of channels to hold them to account for their disgraceful practices. I'm not sure whether this is done through malice, greed or flawed processes and total incompetence but whatever it is they cause people a lot of unnecessary stress in trying to get matters resolved.

Also agreed with William McCahon review I also used M50 and are being chased for not paying toll even though I have receipts for all my journeys. More interested in getting money off you. Still no joy after second attempt. Date on receipt match letter. Don’t they read to see if it matches. Very unprofessional.

Literally Highway Robbery!

In April 2024 I paid 6400 HUF, charged in €’s @ €22.86, for a vignette at Hegyeshalom in Hungary.
At approximately 22.30hrs at night, very busy as it was weekend before Orthodox Easter where the lady in kiosk was definitely working under pressure, I felt under pressure due to the queue behind me, so signed the vignette.
Roll on 6 months and I receive first of two “fines” totalling approx £184 if paid within 60 days…..
So I appealed, not sure why but I’d kept copy of vignette and receipt, although on checking the vignette I noticed that there was one letter wrong (ok I signed the vignette but the agent had the V5, she pushed it at me together with the vignette to sign, why would I imagine she may have “intentionally” entered the wrong information?
Maybe they are on “commission”?
Bizarrely it was rejected because I hadn’t sent a copy of the V5, which was never requested in the first place….
I then appealed again by sending a copy of the V5 only to be told because I’d signed the vignette I’d have to pay £47.14 as a correction to the Registration Number, an error done by the agent, not me!
So my question is although I agree I didn’t notice the V Instead of C the error was made by an agent of the Hungarian vignette authority……not by me!!
If I had the money I’d contest it legally because I think by passing my V5 to the agent and her charging me to produce the vignette she should have done it correctly.
All I can say is buyer beware and if you need to transit through Hungary, go another way!!

UNETHICAL CHANCERS

Received a demand for £91.37 (if paid within 60 days, otherwise rises to £229.64 ! unsure how they get to that amount) claiming we had no e-vingnette when in Hungary on 24/07/24.
Absolute bull - sent them a copy of email dated 19/07/24 covering us with a 10 day e-vingnette paid with receipt. !!!
I wonder how many people don't keep emails like this and are then bullied with inacurate information?

Tried to reply online but i had to send info by post as i refuse to give them permission to share my data and thats the only way you can appeal - send them proof that they are scammers - to them other than royal mail.

Ruthless

I wrote to EPCplc appealing a GBP91.78 fine for buying a GBP13.00 vignette in Hungary only 2hr 26 mins later - that's right - 2hr 26 mins later than their deadline, which, I think is 1hr.
I received the EPCplc fine in the mail 5 months later.
The vignette I purchased was for 9 days. Fortunately I kept the receipt, a copy of which I included with my appeal.
They steadfastly refused my appeal.
I am a 70 yo pensioner, and my wife and I saved very hard to buy a 20yo motorhome so we may holiday in our golden years.
This is a response from EPCplc to someone who also experienced their harshness and determination to extract money for innocuous fines:-
"If you wish to raise a complaint or appeal... we encourage you to email us...our team will thoroughly investigate your concerns...our role is to ensure compliance...not to deceive or exploit. We are here to assist and address any concerns you may have."
I do not know how they think they "assist", and the only address for your concerns appears to be 'pay up on time or we are going to extract even more large amounts of money from you'.
And they say that it's not exploitation!
GBP91.78 is a large chunk of our savings.
I will definitely never again travel to Hungary.
I hope my experience can help others avoid having this lot cross your path.
They show no mercy!
EPCplc is utterly ruthless and single-minded, totally lacking in compassion, flexibility or caring.
Be warned!
*Follow-up to EPCplc response to look into my case. Outcome - Refused!
Their follow-up response is the same to other negative posts about them.
Did they ultimately refuse them too?
Do they do this to make it appear they aren't as ruthless and money-grabbing as they really are? Devious as well???

EPC plc a money making racket!

Like so many others I have received a demand for tollbooth charges (approx £14) plus approx £45 of added fines and charges for allegedly driving through toll booths in Portugal 6 months ago. I have no recollection of driving through booths without paying, which I would never do intentionally, and therefore no way of defending myself against the claims. During a 3 month trip I drove through France, Spain and Portugal and paid dozens of toll charges in all those countries including some in Portugal but for some reason decided not to pay just in one small area around the city of Leiria. Clearly there is something different and wrong about the system in that area.
I submitted my online appeal against the additional charges but offered to pay the actual toll charges. I thought it strange that I did not receive an acknowledgement of receipt of my appeal but then forgot about it for a few weeks. Today I rang and spoke to an "Agent" from the company who advised that he couldn't access my records, that they didn't send acknowledgements (which is handy for them if you don't keep an absolute proof of your online submission, which isn't easy! I was told I had to email to request an acknowledgement!! which I have done.
The business model seems to be- harvest all the weird and spurious toll booth infringements across Europe, add approx five time the cost as fines and charges and wait for anxious and/or busy people just to pay up! Easy money if you have no conscience!

Me and my wife drove through Hungury on…

Me and my wife drove through Hungury on the 1st of June and we always always pay the vignette just after the border. We took the documents of the car. They said the card machine does not work so you have to pay in cash. We paid in cash. No one stopped us in hungary and no one stopped us to tell us you dont have a valid vignette. After 5 month we get the fine and on the fine there is no date when this letter was written and the say that it must be paid in 60 days otherwise the will more than double the fee. A Scam!!
We will make a police report in Sweden and go further with this. Because if we didnt have a valid e vignette then the money was taken where we bought the vignette.
