Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 45 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers reported receiving fines for tolls or vignettes they had already paid, often despite providing proof. These charges frequently escalated significantly, including excessive administrative fees, even for small initial amounts. Contacting the company proved difficult, with automated responses and an inability to reach a helpful representative. Reviewers found their payment evidence often ignored, leading to continued pursuit for increasing fines. Poor communication and slow response times exacerbated issues, leaving many frustrated and without recourse. Some customers found the process made contesting original amounts difficult, leading to concerns about the charges.

Dreadful EPC plc

I drove from Tarragona to Edinburgh over 3 days and received a penalty for paying the £2.50 Dart crossing charge late. They give you 24 hours to pay. I was in huge volume of traffic, got to Edinburgh late and completely forgot. I did however remember I had not paid and paid after the event. Yesterday 4 months later I received a penalty notice from EPC plc. I called them and explained I had paid. They said send a query with evidence and we shall review it. They dismissed it immediately. The con they run is that they give you a penalty period to pay which is consumed by the length of time it takes the letter to arrive. Most modern countries use payment transponders. This shower of excretia doesn’t. I have now paid twice for an utterly crap service. Congratulations EPC plc you are the pits.
In response to the reply, I did query the fine and explained why it was in error and i just received a stupid response saying “the fine stands” no explanation just complete ignorance!

It looks very fishy.

It seems that this organisation has an 'insider' in Portugal that is informing of visitors to the country to these guys. I have a £0.31 charge on a toll road that I did not drive down 4 YEARS AGO. I drive the same routes when I am down there and none of them are toll roads.

How can they be allowed get away with…

How can they be allowed get away with this unjustified harassment. I stayed and parked overnight a a days inn at services in Warwick. I have been getting letters and emails saying I was marked illegally. Days inn confirmed my right to park where I did. No matter what I tell and send evidence they keep sending fines. It's making me have a breakdown at 77 just out of hospital I can't cope with this.

Thieving low life scum

What a joke. Received a letter recently saying I had violated a Portugal toll road 4 years ago. The date and time was 3 days after I handed the car back ( as validated by the hire company) Also had a 20€ transponder fitted and my Google timeline clearly shows me landing at Gatwick airport in storm Dennis at the same time as the supposed violation 🤣🤣 Look forward to my day in court. Thieving low life scum 😡😡😡😡
Further to your reply. You are getting not a penny from me. Go back to your supposed source. l gave the car back to Guerin 3 days before the supposed violation and have proof. Please go through the expense of taking me to court. You don't get 95% negative feedback for no reason. You need to improve your CS.

Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to write.

If you are receiving a notice from us, it’s because we are authorised to recover outstanding fees – e.g. tolls, parking or traffic fines – and you are listed as the registered hirer/keeper of the vehicle when the incident took place.

All road users, regardless of their country of origin, are obligated to adhere to local laws, traffic rules and regulations when travelling within another jurisdiction, including the payment of tolls and fines.

Unfortunately, in order to avoid further charges, you do need to make payment before the due date shown on your notice.

If you refuse to pay, the issuing authority does have enforcement options – you can read more here: https://www.epcplc.com/legal_information.

Like others on here just received…

Like others on here just received letter re unpaid toll of €0.32 from Jul 19 this week, now says we owe £15.46. Had no other correspondence regarding this before now. We were in Portugal at the time of the photo so thought it must be right. Been on to my bank to pay but the bank is unable to confirm the details on the letter and says not to pay it. Tried to check if I have an outstanding toll on the website suggested on here but had no success with that either.

I have only given EPC 1 star because it's impossible to give minus stars. I have been trying to sign in to their site, but have forgotten my password.
I have filled in the section 'Forgotten password' numerous times and the message comes up 'link sent to your email address' but nothing has arrived. I have tried numerous times but am still unable to register and I am travelling to London shortly. A ploy to get money out of me as I cannot register my vehicle which is registered abroad. I would call EPC incompetent but that is too kind to them. Cowboys and grifters seems a bit more true to life.

Scammers again …

I received 2 letters from this company both for £19 and some pence for tolls in Portugal in 2018 and 2019. The first I knew had been paid by a friend who was still in Portugal after we left but I paid the second one to this company. I wish now I hadn’t bothered as they obviously have no power.
What I would like to know is, if this is a scam where is this company getting their information from including our names and addresses and camera shots of the cars going under the toll bridges. Surely the authorities in the various countries could stop this.

Scammerslooking for an easy target

Further to my last post here, I had an emsil from them saying they have dropped the charges against me. This was after 2 demands for payment for which I copied and pasted Portuguese motorway evidence of no outstanding fees on my hire car. Just ignoring their demands works in the long run and I'm sure their threats of debt collectors is an empty promise as they have no collection powers in the UK. And finally, when I checked their bank details (Bank of America) with my bank, it came up as a suspicious account!

I got a postal fine for a motorway in Hungary. That I did accept that I was liable for.
I decided to pay directly to the Hungarian toll road company via my personal bank account, utilising the international payment option.
My position being that I was not going to pay a penny to EPC, having no contact with them, and having made the payment directly there was nothing further that they could do regarding this matter.
Denying them revenue or the charges they put on top of the fine hits profits.

I paid the toll fare on the M50 in Ireland. Received letters threatening court action for not paying. Couldn’t get through on the phone. Eventually did an online chat and was told it was because I delayed paying it ( by 48 hours) and it’s been sent to a solicitor. Still waiting to get a call from them - this is beyond ridiculous.

What a scam

What a scam. I received a letter from this company claiming that I had an outstanding Portuguese toll from 2019 despite paying for transponder and settling the account with the hire car company.

Looking into this firstly the statue of limitations on the toll has expired but more importantly there is a Portuguese web site where you can check you outstanding tolls. Guess what I do not have any outstanding tolls, so this is a total scam.

5 years after the event got a penalty…

5 years after the event got a penalty notice from these knob-ends. Obviously a scam, though they look to have a business address. You can find them on google and on gov.uk company info, seem to have a officers and resignations .... weird.

Hire car in Portugal with SiXT and had a toll dongle which they settled the fees after holiday. Checked on pagamento deportagens and no outstanding penalties (it checks ViALIVRE which is who they said issued the notice).

They have obviously got hold of camera imagery somehow and work through the dates that are several years old. They probably know they are hire cars. So a tourist on holiday several years ago isn't going to remember the reg, etc and for a small amount may just pay to these f'wits out of their face.

I'm ignoring it! If I get another I'm getting legal! I checked the send to epc, so if you're reading this F-off and suck my plums!
