It really was hassel-free

It really was hassel-free. I picked the car up, there was a bit of a queue, but one of the agents there (at the pick up depot outside the airport) Paul, was great, funny, efficient with great customer service. If he's not a manager there, Europcar should make him one. Got an upgrade, and no issues.
It only loses a star as I dropped the Car off l. The person who worked there and was responsible for checking in returning cars was very rude. I just asked her where I should leave the key? She was very unfriendly. I dont know here name, but she needed an attitude adjustment, which I happily delivered to her. I reckon she is also the reason I got a €20, fuel charge, I filled that car up full at a garage, that was near by, no way it need to be refuelled...but still happy with the process.

Unjustified Damage Fee - AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Unjustified Damage Fee & Refusal to Honor Coverage - Avoid!

My recent experience with Europcar (Rental Contract No: 2104428415, vehicle GY-928-AA, rental June 6-10, 2025) has been extremely disappointing due to an unjustified charge and extremely poor customer service.

I was charged an additional EUR 87.00 as a "Schadenbearbeitungspauschale" (Damage Processing Fee) on top of my agreed rental cost, bringing the total from EUR 495.86 to EUR 594.17. This charge was applied despite having purchased the "GoZen Schutzpaket" (full coverage).

Crucially, Europcar's own Accident Damage Report (ADR No: 900017444554) explicitly states a "DLW Excess Amount: 0.00 EUR" and "Franchise facturée: 0.00 EUR" for the minor wheel damage reported. This means, according to their own documentation, I should not be liable for any damage-related fees.

Despite multiple emails and formal escalation attempts, Europcar has repeatedly refused to provide a clear explanation for this EUR 87.00 charge or point to any specific clause in their terms and conditions that justifies an administrative fee when damage is fully covered with zero excess. Their responses have been vague and evasive, simply reiterating that the charge is "correct as per our general rental conditions" without any substantiation.

Their refusal to honor their own stated coverage and provide transparency is unacceptable. I am now forced to initiate a chargeback dispute with my credit card company and file formal complaints with consumer protection agencies in France and Germany.

Be extremely cautious when renting from Europcar, especially regarding additional charges and their damage handling process, even if you opt for full coverage.

This was Venice traporta Europecar

This was Venice traporta Europecar. I spent alot of time researching the correct vehicle for a family of four, I have been on many holidays and hired cars previously. I understood my car needed space for 3 suitcases in the boot for our journey to be safe and comfortable. I ordered a medium sized vehicle that specifically said x 3 cases could fit in the boot. We arrived at 9pm , the man behind the desk gave us a small ford fiesta. On showing him our booking for him said they had no other vehicle left. So we were stuck late at night, the fiesta fit x 1 suitcase in the boot which meant the remainder were piled up on the back seat. It was dangerous and uncomfortable. A suitcase hit my child in the face during the journey. I have appealed to Europcar but they have denied any wrong doing which is disgusting as the booking form clearly identified a medium car with boot capacity. This company are fraudulent and putting customers in danger and really seem not to care about it. Avoid at all costs.

In addition we travelled no more than 400km in total, however on the return form they documented 5000km. I noticed them of this and they said I was not charged any extra for mileage. They seem unconcerned that there was a discrepancy of 4500km on the vehicle from the last odometer reading. This shows how poorly they are auditing and keeping track of vehicles, a real concern when factored in with the lack of care over the safety of their customers

No service!

21 - 06 - 2025 reserved and paid for a car, everything was approved by Europecar, after arriving at the airport at the counter where Mr. S pauels received me, I gave my driving license and passport, he left for a moment, a little later Mr. S pauels came back to tell me that they could not give me a rental car because I was on a so-called security check, I asked the reason why I am on a security list, I have never rented a car from Europcar before, I was also told by the man that Europcar Dusseldorf does not rent to people from the Netherlands, a little later I left, I called the Europcar head office in Germany, they told me that I was the person who canceled the booking, I never canceled the booking! since I went on vacation and on the way to my destination I had booked 4 hotels and paid online I can forget that

I would also like to indicate that I was helped very badly and 0.0 service

this cannot and should not happen with a company like Europcar !!!

EuropCar Deposit Scam

They did SCAM us. We paid 250 pounds deposit. They "forced" us to upgrade the car insurance to premium and ask for a refund for the booking car insurance (which did cover the same but was cheaper). We did book the car for pick up at 12:00. We got the car much later. After we did return the car (we did arrive at 12:22 instead of 12:00 due to a car accident and traffic) we had to wait for 20 minutes before we could return the car. The employee told us that everything is fine and that we would get our deposit of 250 pounds back within 7 days. However, we never got out deposit back. After contacting customer support from Europcar we got a template answer from a bot telling us that our deposit was only 100 pounds (which is not true) and that we would lose our deposit because we did return our car 55 minutes to late. They said you can only exceed the time by 30min before you lose your deposit. After telling them that we tried to return the car at 12:22 (22 Minutes later then agreed) they did ignore the fact and send us the same template answer as before. We got our car 30 Minutes later then agreed and did not complain, the employee told us we would get our deposit back and that the delay of 22min does not matter and now the customer support does not care and ignores those facts and keep our 250 pounds deposit. We will never book a car with Europcar again and i can only warn everyone to stay away from them. Very disappointet! This is SCAM. Worst customer service i have ever seen.

Avoid Europcar Germany – fraudulent mileage charges and pressure to pay

In April 2025, I rented a 9-seater van from Europcar Frankfurt Ostend for 3 days (Reservation No. 1188617948 / Contract No. 50451503). I selected a 1,200 km mileage limit, as our trip was short and regional.

When I picked up the vehicle, the staff member said it had about 1,600 km — which I verified myself, along with five adult passengers. However, the contract stated just 160 km as the starting mileage. I didn’t notice the false entry at the time, as it wasn’t highlighted by the agent.

We drove around 700 km total, staying in Frankfurt and Mannheim. Days later, I received an invoice for €326.36, claiming I had exceeded the limit by 796 km — based on the incorrect 160 km start. This is completely false.

I contacted Europcar twice with full explanations and supporting evidence, but they refused to acknowledge their error. Since then, they’ve sent repeated messages pressuring me to pay and even threatening debt collection.

Let me be clear: I will not pay for kilometers I did not drive. This feels like a deliberate and fraudulent practice. After researching, I found several other customers with the same issue — mileage falsely recorded at pickup, then followed by inflated charges.

I strongly warn other travelers:
Avoid Europcar Germany at all costs. Double-check and photograph the odometer before leaving. Do not assume the contract is correct — or you could end up being harassed for money you don’t owe.

Abusive staff on return

So, we arrived back at Munich but hadn't filled the tank.
Young lad checking the car said all was OK and showed directions to the nearby "tankstelle."
We drove there, filled upand returned to the drop off. Young lad gave the thumbs up then his very aggressive female colleague intervened. She spoke to him in ?Russian and insisted on re-checking the car in fine detail. When I asked why she swore in Russian " svoloch"...translated as "ass", "d@@k" or "jerk".
Not the service expected from europcar.

Europcar never ever

We ordered a hire car from Europcar for our stay in Belgium and paid for it in advance. When we went to collect the car from Europcar at Brussels Airport, we were in for a nasty surprise. I had to pay the deposit by credit card and enter the PIN. However, I didn't know my credit card PIN as I had never used it before and I admit that I didn't read the details of the contract conditions, which state that you need a credit card and PIN. All attempts to find a solution with the gentleman from Europcar failed due to his unwillingness. We became increasingly desperate as we couldn't go on holiday without a hire car. But the gentleman didn't care.
In our desperation, I turned to the nearby car hire company "Enterprise Rent-A-Car". Lo and behold, it was no problem for them. They sent me an email to enter my credit card details. After confirming the email, I received a request from my bank security app to confirm the booking and everything was done.

Very hard sell at desk

Very hard sell at desk, took ages at Malaga airport, lots of disgruntled customers infront of us. Still got the car which wasn't as booked. Don't know whether to complain to booking.com and/or europcar. Will do something at end of holiday.

On May 23rd

On May 23rd, 2025, I rented a van from the Europcar office on Via Madama Cristina in Turin, with pickup scheduled for 8:30 AM. Despite the booking time, due to slow procedures and poor organization, I was only able to leave with the vehicle around 9:00 AM.

Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. After just a few hours of use, the van began showing multiple warning alerts through the onboard system (engine issues, headlights, brake pads, Blue Print warning, etc.), and eventually broke down completely at 3:10 PM. The van was fully loaded with cargo, and I had paid workers with me, making the situation even more critical. I was effectively left stranded on the side of the road with no concrete help from Europcar.

At 3:29 PM, I immediately contacted the rental office where I picked up the van to request a replacement vehicle. The response was shockingly dismissive and rude: I was simply told to "call roadside assistance" and that nothing else could be done. No alternatives, no support, no responsibility.

After contacting roadside assistance—which required two separate interventions and could not resolve the issue right away—I called the office again. This time I spoke with someone more polite, but just as unhelpful. They admitted multiple times that they “didn’t know how to handle this case” and that it was a “peculiar situation.”

Now, Europcar’s official response is that I did not request a replacement van through roadside assistance, and that the branch had no suitable vehicle available. However, I clearly requested the replacement directly from the office where I picked up the van, and was told none were available and no other option was offered. Now they’re effectively blaming me for not going through the "right channel" while I was left stranded with a broken-down van, a full load of cargo, and workers on the clock.

This was a complete failure on Europcar’s part: a vehicle with pre-existing issues, no reliable support, and an irresponsible attitude in handling the aftermath.

I strongly advise against using this branch, and frankly, this experience makes me question Europcar’s overall reliability as a company.

europcar is skilled fraudster

Don't ever get involved with this company. They are skilled scammers. I rented a car from Munich airport for 2 days. When I picked up the car, I asked if I would charge an extra fee if I returned it to the city center, they said no. I returned the car 2 days later, and 5 days later they deducted an extra 2 days of car rental from my deposit. You can never reach the company after the sale and I only learned why they charged an extra fee 1 month later. I took legal action.ENJ-48593780

WARNING: Europcar Is a Total Rip-Off – Avoid at All Costs!

WARNING: Europcar Is a Total Rip-Off – Avoid at All Costs!
I had a terrible experience with Europcar and want to warn others before they get scammed like I did.
I purchased Europcar's most comprehensive insurance package to ensure zero out-of-pocket costs in case of any damage. Despite this, after I returned the rental car in good condition, they kept my deposit, claiming they needed to do a “special car wash.” That’s right a “special” cleaning fee after buying full insurance.
This feels like a scam. They’re using questionable charges to hold onto customer deposits, even when the car is returned without issues.
Do not trust this company. Read other reviews you’ll see a pattern of unjust charges, poor customer service, and shady practices. Europcar might look like a reputable rental company, but in reality, it’s deceptive and dishonest.
If you value your money, avoid Europcar.

How to stop Holidayfeeling in Crete/Heraklion

Our five day holiday begann with a comfortable flight by Easyjet, 20 minutes before scheduled. We felt very good until we wanted to get our Car by Europcar. 1st surprise: there ist no Europcar at the airport, but its written in Internet. You search and search until you ask any other bureau to help you or you open you Phone and google the exact place. It´s about 600m away from the airport and no sign for it.
So we walked with our luggage up to the Europcar office. There the guy told us first that we cannot get any car, because my wife forgot her driving license in Germany. I told him that I will be the driver and gave him my ID Card, my driving license and my AMEX. First he told us that this will cost 5 Euros extra per day.
I said okay, but shortly after that he told us, that he can not give us a car. He told us to call a number in Greece to change the contract, but there was a Person only Greek speaking and he didn´t really want to help us. To know: my wife ist booking my journeys for 20 years on her name incl. the car. and I am always the driver. That was never a problem with other agencies. Than we called to a german bureau of Europcar. They told us, that they also cannot do anything.
I told my wife to leave this place, go back to the airport to take a car by SIXT, but she wanted the car from Europcar.
The feeling of a nice holiday was totaly gone, thank you Europcar-
At the end we had to quit the first contract ans make a new contract -naturally much worse than the first contract, smaller car and duoble in price- to get a car.

Ey guys from Europcar, this you can do better. It´s a service what you do, but some of your employees live in a service desert.

I ordered a car with Europcar online

I ordered a car with Europcar online, only for them to call me back from the pick up branch, to say there wasn’t a car available. I had also paid upfront online, so now waiting to be reimbursed. The following day I checked online, just to see if there was a car available the following day. There was according to their online service only to be told by the branch, yet again…there wasn’t a car available.
Why can’t there system get it right and double check availability before the customer pays up and then has to wait for a refund? Not to mention all the time that has been wasted.

Mean while I had to change my flight to the other airport of Venice(Trevizo), I called the office to ask if I can change drop off location and they told me very clearly , no problem and no extra charge.
I did , and they charged me 500 extra one way fee. with the taxes went an other 100 up. They totally refuse to refund me,and they are very unpolite on the costumer support. I had to call more than 20 times to get an answer. Negative, for a mistake that was of the company.

Dishonest

There is a theme here about dishonesty, the sales people are not honest about what they are offering, often linking a total hire price, which turns out to be daily, rushing you through a signing process on a small screen hoping you won't notice. I got stung gor over £700 and the leadership of this business finds this is acceptable. Stay away from Europcar!

Absolute madness! This company is dodgy and robbing its customers, we’ll never book with them again! Europcar UK is sending Dart Charge invoices after returning the car and charge 9x (!) the amount we needed to pay to Dart Charge. We just talked to a customer rep from Dart Charge and he told us that they did not receive any payments from Europcar even though we already transferred it. On top of that, it would only have to be £5 in total instead of £45, which we’ve been charged by Europcar, which they must have kept! This company is absolutely not trustworthy, we have not even been informed about any additional charges that should be expected! Choose any other car rental provider, but stay away from Europcar!
