Buyers should think carefully about the quality of after-sales support before purchasing from this dealership.
While faults can happen with any used car, what matters is how those situations are handled. In my case, resolving issues with a vehicle I purchased from Evans Halshaw became a six-month ordeal involving countless phone calls, emails and repeated chasing for updates. I was regularly promised callbacks that never happened and often found myself having to drive the process forward myself.
Communication was a recurring problem throughout my experience. Obtaining updates was difficult, agreed actions required repeated follow-up, and even receiving the vehicle's second key took months of chasing.
A particular concern was discovering after purchase that the vehicle had been sold as having a full service history, but a required service had not been carried out during the dealership's ownership of the vehicle. Obtaining clear information and documentation around this became another lengthy and frustrating process.
The situation ultimately resulted in the vehicle being returned and the dispute having to be escalated to an independent third party before a resolution could be reached.
What should have been a straightforward customer service issue became an unnecessarily stressful and time-consuming experience. Based on my experience, I would not purchase from Evans Halshaw again.

Nothing but problems since ordering my new car.
Car was in stock, after waiting nearly 2 weeks to get a delivery date, I contacted them to be advised I can’t have that new car, there is a problem with it that Peugeot can’t fix at the moment.
Then I’m offered another car at £550 extra, but it has sat nav and front / rear cameras, so I took it.
Finally it arrived but no front / rear cameras. I complained to be advised the salesman made a mistake on the spec.
I paid £600 to have it delivered by a transporter, I and the dealer expected a one man low loader, but no, it was one of those huge ones you see on the motorway carrying 20 cars.
It couldn’t get to me as it was so huge, I had to walk 15 minutes to meet the driver. He was supposed to be taking my p/ex away also.
He could not speak a word of English, wouldn’t take my p/ex with him.
Have had nothing but trouble since ordering this car, I certainly wouldn’t recommend them.

Got our 2008E seven weeks ago.Broke down a couple of days ago.RAC came and found a lot of faults logged, which he downloaded and emailed us with.Called Evans Halshaw to book in to be checked over and still waiting 24 hours later for them to call is back to make arrangements.Regretting getting the car if this is the after service we are going to get.Terrible service!

Why doesn't this company do something about their poor customer service at York Peugeot branch as they get a lot of bad reviews on this site, they tell you they are disappointed and will try to improve but this does not happen as they still get poor reviews so obviously once they have your money they don't care what happens later

I bought a car from Evans Halshaw York in August 2023, and from the very beginning, it has been nothing short of a nightmare.
The finance was initially applied to the wrong car, delaying my collection.
Then a rip was found in the seat that I had to arrange to get repaired (thankfully free, but still my responsibility to sort).
That was just the start.
Since July 2024, the car has had persistent mechanical faults:
Engine light, overheating, and coolant loss began in July 2024.
In January 2025, the engine light returned and the car was undriveable. It took 6 weeks just to get it booked in, and 10 weeks total to repair a timing belt issue.
Within weeks, the engine light came back on, followed by a catalytic converter failure, more coolant problems, and a faulty seal I had to pay for.
Coolant issues never fully resolved despite multiple visits and “no fault found” responses.
By August, I was back in again with coolant at minimum. A week later – engine light again.
This time it was the EGR valve, requiring another 5 weeks off the road.
In October, coolant poured straight out of the car. I was told it had been tested and driven, but clearly that was not true.
Now I’m waiting on a replacement pipe that takes a minimum of 2 weeks, with no courtesy car available unless I pay £20/day for a van. Completely unacceptable.
Over the last year, I have been without my car for a total of 19 weeks, yet I’m still paying monthly finance on a vehicle that is clearly not fit for purpose. Throughout this, Evans Halshaw have shown little to no interest in helping, offering no real support, no gestures of goodwill, and minimal communication.
I raised multiple complaints — including a request to swap out the vehicle — only to be told my car was undervalued by £3,000 compared to other quotes, and that “head office decides the price” regardless of my situation. No flexibility, no accountability.
Bottom line:
Evans Halshaw sold me an unreliable car and provided the most frustrating, drawn-out, and unhelpful service I’ve ever encountered. They’ve failed to take ownership, offer fair resolutions, or show any genuine care for their customers.
I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.

Liam, Kerry and now Connor, extra miler in customer service and care.
Took my car in for service and from the moment you arrive it’s met with a smile and genuine service with a smile.
It’s possible one the best experiences I’ve had with car dealers in York and the team, all of them, are just outstanding. They know they have a great product so the attention is on you and that makes it easier to find what you need.
Anyway great team Thank You Connor you smashed it lad! Proper job

We view and agreed on a used car. However they was an issue that need attention. We were constantly told it wouldn't be long. However, ever time I tried to get feed back on situation I was the one who had to call. I was constantly promised call backs but they never happened. After 2 weeks and issue not resolved we cancelled. When we rang and said we were cancelling etc. Their response was so " whatever I don't care" we were shocked. They are not a company I will recommend or advise any other people to use. It was the York branch

Very poor customer service. Feels like one hand does not know what the other is doing.
I bought my new car from here a year ago and have just brought it in for its first service (which was free due to the issues I had when I purchased it).
When booking it in at 9am I was told they would get it in straight away as I was just ‘wandering’. Having come back to the service centre at 1:45 having not heard anything from them, the car had not moved. After complaining and being told there were 8 cars before mine this morning, it is now going in for the service. 2 more hours to wait!!!
A lesson Evans Halshaw do not book all your cars to arrive at 9am on service day. Spread them out and make sure your front desk know what is happening so the communication is better.
Not had any good service from this garage and will avoid in future.

Incredibly bad service. Do NOT use this garage for servicing your car.
One guy said that it had gone in at Noon. Only to be told by the management that it was just going in at 2.15!!!

Visited Citron/Peugeot -York to view a car I’d seen online at their showroom. The service I received from the very second of arrival, to the second I left was simply, phenomenal. George Kitchen is an absolute credit to their company and will evidently go far in his chosen career of being a vehicle salesman.
Each and every person involved in the sale of my new car was up there with the best, from the manager Kevin, to the finance manager Jay were outstanding. I will most certainly be returning to this showroom for my future cars. Thank you again!

Between Evans Halshaw, York, where I purchased the car and Peugeot customer service, I am going around in circles with no one wanting to take responsibility of the £25,000 car I purchased in Nov 22, now 16 months ago. The day after the car was taken home a noise was found and immediately reported. This noise is still occurring today despite a new part on the gear box, then a full new gear box, then a new fly wheel then a tightening of 'something'. The dealership say there is no problem when asked by Peugeot, despite the top technician hearing the fault twice on a drive with myself. Peugeot don't want responsibility and Evans Halshaw keep trying to 'fix the issue'. Meanwhile, for the past 16 months I have driven a car I bought with 5000 miles on the clock, remain faulty. I've had the inconvenience of having to take the car back and fourth to the garage, the distress of a new car not sounding like it should, but apparently as a paying customer this is seemingly acceptable to both parties, despite being constantly assured that customer satisfaction is their priority. I love my Peugeot 2008 but just want it to work as it should or have the car replaced with an equivalent. I have to say that the staff on the service desk at Evans Halshaw have been great.

Please be careful when you enquire on a car at York you need to look at the mileage it's not has advertised on auto trader also after paying deposit rang on the day we arranged to see the car we got told sorry someone forgot to add the VAT poor service and it's still on auto trader at the wrong milage.

DO NOT SELL YOUR CAR to the Evans Halshaw online service. After getting a fair price for my car I got an appointment at my local Dealership (Citreon York) Nobody new about my appointment, after full inspection of my car which the salesman thought was immaculate it took them a long time to come back to me with a valuation over £1800 less than quoted. I expected some slight reduction but that was a rip off not to mention it was much less than WeBuyAnyCar.
