Ok but needs to improve.

Ok, I'm a seasoned gym goer, 25 yrs+. As gym's go, this I still believe offers value for money. £1.00 a day compared to a lot of competitors. I spend £3.85 on a coffee afterwards, so what can you really expect for £1.00. I think the general hygiene and maintenance standards have fallen over the years I've been there, and are verging on unacceptable, I think the general tone of the comments are justified if detrimental and a bit overstated. It does appear that the company is pulling in the strings and cutting costs, which may indicate it's struggling. It will fail if it continues to get such negative reviews, so they need to listen, unless they've already conciened themselves to failure? The staff are friendly but perhaps not appreciated by the management, this sometimes is evident, how would you behave in the same circumstances. Im not sure if this branch has a future, I for one hope so. Many gyms of this age undergo a similar transition, this one is no exception.

Best gym

Definetly the best gym in Selby without a doubt. All these negative reviews don't reflect the Gym truly at all. Super friendly staff who are more than happy to help you out and go above and beyond. Big shoutout to Soph for helping me with a few of my issues. Wouldn't want to change gyns now.

Good experience

I was looking for a gym with a pool at the end of 2022, I read bad reviews of this gym but decided to go look round to see what it was like. We went in and the staff were very friendly and happy to show us around. They even admitted to having issues with the pool but said they’ve sorted it now. It’s now august and the pool has always been open and in use, as well as the steam room. If the equipment is broken, it’s closed off then reopened when fixed. Overall a good gym with friendly staff.

I think anyone putting 5 stars is…

I think anyone putting 5 stars is deluded-even 2 is too much. I totally agree with PaperGirl's comments. Staff are hit and miss, self scanning to enter makes them redundent at reception, so they sit and use their phones or flirt to whoever cares. Staff park in disabled parking stops, this really annoys me, and no one seems to get tickets, local council is missing out big time there. This place used to have working Jacuzzis - now empty with no clear reason why. The pool and Steam room are always out of order at some point- so you cant plan to use them, as you never know when they work.Lockers are secure, but if something is stolen from them, guess what it's the customers issue. The cleaning spray and paper has gone - so you cant wipe or clean after use- TV's out of order- and I totally agree with the gym etiquette, I thought under 16's couldnt use gyms as insurance does not cover them. After 5 yrs of being a memeber, I am going to change to the local leisure centre, as nothing changes, complaints arent addressed, and I dont want to get anything. I could say more but I think people would stop reading :) - P.S if i could give minus -5 stars I would.

Unloved and poorly managed

I've been a long time member of this gym, and I've only ever seen it deteriorate. To begin with, it is almost impossible to find a working locker. On entering the gym floor you will usually be hit by a wave of hot fetid air due to the air conditioning rarely working OR being turned off as they are looking to save electricity costs. The TVs haven't worked for weeks. When you get to your equipment, if it's not broken you'll usually find it covered in sweat. Or being used by a group of 14 year olds who have zero idea of what they are supposed to be doing. After sweating profusely due to the heat, a good shower is not available as the dials are so crusted with limescale you cannot alter the temperature. I won't mention the mold or grout missing from the floor.

Reception is hit and miss depending on who is working, although working being a relative term as one young lady always seems to be sitting on the side with her feet up on the counter not doing anything other than practising her scowl. On the other hand a couple of the younger chaps working seem on the ball and are at least pleasant.

Not a great experience, and needs money and care. I would not recommend to anyone but it is the only alternative for us in the area.

Everlast Selby

After a tough lockdown with my confidence at an all time low, I eventually decided to join the gym with Everlast my choice.
I was apprehensive at first so I decided to go at 6am hoping it would be quiet. I was amazed to find it was quite busy at that time. The first person I met on reception was a lady called Carly. She made me feel at ease, instantly offering help and advise. I am now a fully fleged member of the morning crew and beaming with confidence from constant advise and support offered by Your member of staff. I feel she's gone above and beyond in helping me reach my fitness goals with her advise on spin and also lifting weights. Always chatty and welcoming on a morning. She's a star! Thankyou. Happy customer. However, to no fault of the staff, I do feel this this gym is in desperate needs of a refurb!!

Adequate

This gym has gone down since Everlast took it over, I put it down to recovering from Covid but it doesn't offer value for money. Hardly any of the TV's get a signal so there is nothing to watch while exercising. They play music which is probably aimed at the younger generation and very loud. There aren't many choices of classes, The cleanliness has improved a bit lately. There is the same exercise video played on the gym TV's constantly (boring). The staff seem friendly and helpful. I don't understand what's going on with the lockers as people seem to now have their own and take their key home so not many lockers available. It's just a cheap and cheerful gym and I probably will be looking elsewhere soon.

Filthy and poorly managed

The cleaning regime is non existent, despite covid still being rampant and flu season starting. Showers are full of mould. Management are rude and don't seem to care at all. Swimming pool at wrong temperature for weeks. Air conditioning constantly broken. Unfortunately tied in now with their new T&Cs. Would never recommend to anyone.

This gym used to be one of the best in…

This gym used to be one of the best in the area back in the days of JJB/DW Sports. Since Everlast purchased, they have put no money in to replacing and updating ageing equipment. Machines constantly out of order, water fountain also out of order, swimming pool out of action because it's either too cold or too hot, jacuzzi's haven't worked for years, changing rooms (espeically mens side) are filthy - the list goes on! I understand that equipment and things go wrong, it is inevitable. But, the time taken to fix these is completely unacceptable. Though generally the staff are pretty good, some just don't seem to care when you express your concerns to them.

This gym is in serious need of a huge overhaul and renovation. The price of membership isn't exactly 'value for money' and 90% of members you speak to are fed up. The only reason they continue to come to this gym is due to limited gyms in the local area. If a more reputable gym moved in to the area, it would be curtains for the Selby branch.

Everlast Selby

Everlast Selby
I joined this gym way back in 2006 when it was sparkling and new. All the staff were fantastic. It was owned by JB Sports then. The steam room and jacuzzis were always working , the swimming pool was always clean and at a good temperature,
The gym was well equipped and maintained well. Plenty of good classes to choose from.
DW took over a few years ago. Standards sometimes dropped, some things weren’t always right, but generally most members seemed happy,
But since Everlast took over around 2 years ago… goodness how it’s changed! They axed around half of the staff. So the ones remaining always seem stressed and overworked.
But the main gripe is that when things break down , they either don’t get fixed at all or it takes months.
The jacuzzis haven’t been in action for over 2 years! The steam room was broken for around a year. The water fountain has been broken for ages in the gym, The coffee machine isn’t working.
Currently I only come to Everlast to swim or do aqua based classes. Unfortunately now all the Aqua classes have been stopped , which I will miss.
The pool was far too cold for nearly 2 weeks. It was meant to have been fixed. But today it’s had to close because it’s now too hot! I am told that an engineer is coming tomorrow to fix it. I do hope they can get it regulated.
I do worry that Everlast are having financial difficulties, and hope we don’t lose the facility altogether? Because Selby branch is due a refit .
I have been a member there constantly for 16 years, and nothing had been upgraded during that time.
