Okay but much of the equipment is out of order
The gym I was a member at was okay, the staff and the gym members were friendly, but…
The price of membership kept going up year on year, even though the equipment was always out of order.
I left at the end of February after 3years as a member.
Poor customer experience
The issue that I have experienced was: My wife and I both joined
Everlast St Helens on a one‑year contract, with all payments coming
from my account. When our contracts ended in May 2025, we decided to
cancel my wife’s membership because she rarely used the gym. That
should have been a simple request but, it turned into nearly a year of
frustration.
Despite multiple follow‑ups, her direct debit continued to be taken
until November 2025, six months after the contract ended. When I
raised this with Jack, he assured me a refund would be issued. That
refund never arrived. The lack of honesty and accountability left us
deeply disappointed.
Because of this experience, I decided to cancel my own membership as
well. I initiated the process in October 2025, yet my direct debit
continued for another four months. It only stopped when I personally
deleted the mandate from my banking app in February 2026, something I
should never have had to do.
During this period, I sent countless emails and made several phone
calls. Each time, I was promised a refund but nothing ever happened.
The complete lack of responsiveness made us feel ignored and
disrespected as paying members.
And just when I thought things couldn’t get any worse, on 20th March
2026, my wife received a call from the gym demanding payment for a
“missed” instalments, despite her membership having ended almost a
year earlier and despite the gym already taking payments long after
her contract expired.
This entire experience has been exhausting, stressful, and deeply
disappointing. No customer should be treated this way, especially
after trying countless times to resolve issues politely and through
the proper channels.
Pros
Pros: Lots of open space and well lit. Lots of barbells, dumbbells and plates.
Cons: Missing/broken equipment. Kettlebells and harnesses go missing and are never replaced. Seated row machine has had an 'out-of-order' sign on it for over a year! Concept 2 rowers are very ratchety and have low batteries. They rarely get serviced. Many pulleys have missing stack pins. This means you have borrow them from other pulleys. If the gym is busy, this is not an option. People end up waiting, not for a free pulldown machine but for a pin to put in the weight stack. All these issues have been reported, but they don't get fixed. Gym managers, of which there is a high turnover, say that they pass the complaints up the chain but that nothing gets done. Worse still, Everlast try to lock you into a 12-month contract even though they are the ones in breach on contract by failing to maintain the facilities!
Contracts and maintenance
There’s enough bad reviews on here without me adding mine so here’s some advice…
😡Warning⚠️: My Experience with Everlast Gym
I’ve been a very loyal Everlast Gym member for years, even though many of their gym equipment kept breaking down and going out of service. Despite this, I continued to pay my membership while I also joined JD Gym, which offers far better equipment and customer service.
In May, my Everlast Gym payment didn’t go through for some reason but I never received any notification about it. Then, in October 2025, around 10:50am, I went to use the gym for the first time in months, only to be rudely stopped from entering by a staff member who, in my opinion, acted in a racially biased manner.Note* apart from May payment all other payment went through.
I explained the situation and even offered to make the payment immediately via bank transfer or contactless, but he refused. Instead, I was forced to wait nearly an hour for someone to bring my card so I could pay. The whole incident was humiliating and completely unnecessary,I felt like sh!T and I blame my self for letting the axHo treat me that way.
After this experience, I’ve decided to cancel my membership and six of my friends will be doing the same. I’ll continue to use the gym only until my notice period ends.
Honestly, if you value respect, good customer service, and properly maintained gym equipment, stay away from Everlast Gym.

Cancelled membership but they keep taking money
Joined a few years ago and made the mistake of joining again last year, It was nearly impossible to cancel membership both times as they keep taking money. You must remember to cancel your direct debit as there are no contact numbers to speak to anyone about getting your money back. Avoid.

Doubled the price of membership with no warning
Found out my membership price had doubled when I saw it come out of my bank account. I asked them what had happened and was told it was 'the customer's responsibility to manage their junk mail.'
I asked them for a copy of the email they sent out so I could verify my email was on their mailing list and also so I could add this email to my exceptions so it didn't go into junk mail. They sent me a screenshot of their email inbox and nothing else.
I pointed out if their emails were going to junk mail, then why was I talking with them just fine? I asked again for the email mailing address. They ignored me.
I've asked again for the email evidence today. Judging by other responses here, they are now just ignoring everyone because they didn't notify their members properly.
I will be taking the matter to trading standards. Appalling, unprofessional behaviour, and with equipment that is often left broken for months and now underhanded tactics to double their gym membership, I think I will be cancelling my membership too, along with my friends who come with me.
Avoid this gym!
Happy New Year, Your Membership Is Being Doubled!
Sad to leave but no justification of raising the price to £20 a month when it was a tenner, a very bad business practice of Everlast when I get an e-mail saying happy new year but hey we're doubling the price with less than a month's notice. All that was stated in the e-mail is the cost of wages, rent etc. going up but how is this the customer's problem? Nothing mention about actually improving the gym. Machines out of order scattered around the place and can't see it changing. Had its day I think. They said I can't cancel February's payment as I have to give them a month's notice but hold on, where was my notice on the price increase? Cancel the direct debit, they have also removed themselves so they can't be found on Google Maps, probably because of the negative reviews. Many people that I spoke to in the gym didn't even receive the e-mail so will be getting a shock in Feb, very bad what Everlast have pulled here.

Been a member here for over six years,Recently cancelled my membership because they didn't have the decency to send me an email to say that the price will be increasing by ten pounds on 1st Feb, I had to hear it off a family member
Reasons I have stayed so long is because of location to my workplace staff are pleasant so are the other members. I have also informed other members who have since also cancelled they're memberships. Machines are always breaking down there is never any hurry to fix them. There are two strider machines one has been broken for over four years. To tell the staff that the machine is not working falls on deaf ears as I've reported it quite a few times but nothing is ever done about it.When I called to cancel they told me that I had to give a months notice but they gave me no notice of any price increase.Do not waste your money on this gym,I can go to a council run facility where I can go to the gym swim and do all the classes for less than what they want to charge. My advice would be to cancel your direct debit at the bank so they can't take February's payment. If they have more cancellations It would be there own fault,as for loyalty to good paying members they do not care.Funny how they have now deleted their profile off Google maps which holds reviews for their business, almost as if they don't want people to know about the price increase.
Cancelling your membership is a nightmare
Cancelling your membership is a nightmare, went in St Helens everlast to cancel my membership in December and was told the girl in the office had done it and would have to pay Januarys fee which is in your contract. Got a phone call from St Helens late January to say it had been rejected and I had to email request, they then proceeded with multiple emails to make thing (for a pensioner) very difficult, even asking for my email address when they have just emailed me. They have taken another payment in February and refused to refund it, I wish I had read the reviews and listened to Martin Lewis who fought to get their cancellation process made more simple.
St.Helen’s EVERLAST gym is dangerous!!
St.Helen’s EVERLAST gym is dangerous!!
The last 2years, management has constantly swapped with one only ever remaining for a few months at a time.
2023 the facility has seen a new manager- a male that doesn’t workout himself is now running the place.
HE HAS RUINED THE PLACE!
Purposely antagonising the female class attendees, speaking disrespectfully to instructors, not having equipment repaired, losing ALL staff that had been present for years. This manager has killed the wonderful sense of community and classy spirit that there once was.
Complaints are send from head office to him and he simply laughs and bins them. His arrogance is disgusting. As is the gym and changing rooms now!
Members feeling forced to come in with WD40 to oil equip themselves because he hasn’t fixed things highlighted to him 6months prior..
Women uncomfortable to do aqua aerobics when he is on shift.
At night he sits in the back office with his feet up on the table or is regularly on the sofas in the foyer for members ‘chilling’.
EVERLAST have no complaints process, no escalation process and do NOT care for members (that they are losing) at all.
The person complained about is the person that ‘deals’ with the complaints… hence nothing positive is coming.
This place is a disaster.
