I was looking for a clean well…
I was looking for a clean well maintained facility for Gym and Swim to train for an event I'm hoping to complete, I didn't really want to go premium so decided to try out my local leisure centre first.
On checking out the website a free day pass was available so I clicked and requested one and within minutes I got an email through with a code. Great!
Despite instructions telling you to use the app to book this - You can't actually use the app to book this.
So, wanting to swim that day I decided to book a paid swim session and went ahead anyway, scanned the barcode app to get access and had a really nice swim!
It was definitely a consideration to join on a full membership, a few hours later I got a call from a membership advisor and we discussed actually booking in for a full trial for Gym and swim using the pass, agreed that Monday was good for me and then she told me she would call in the morning to arrange, I didn't know why that couldn't be arranged on the first call but she was clear she'd call on Monday to arrange?
Over the weekend I got a "No show" email for my paid session demanding 4 pounds so I emailed the membership advisor to query? I attached screenshots of my GPS Garmin recorded swim and confirmed that I'd scanned my QR code to gain entry.
In reply she told me to speak to the enquiries team using the app?? Would it have been too much to ask for her to escalate this for me to her manager so I wasn't inconvenienced further??
I immediately did so and this morning I've essentially had an email ignoring the fact that this was clearly an IT error with no apology and a threat that if I do "no show" again I will be charged?!? Did a human even read the enquiry??
And of course the advisor didn't bother to call on Monday to book that pass day...
Genuine shame because how can you encourage "everyone active" when you place such barriers for local people to be able to use the facilities.
I've spent about an hour with this organisation trying to navigate the app, speaking to them on the phone and emailing... I could have been using that time in the gym!
In conclusion, this place isn't for anyone serious about fitness, from what I saw of the swimming pool it's really nice but it's run by a team who aren't user friendly, don't seem to care and an IT system thats half baked.
My advice - Don't deal with this organisation, they'll frustrate your fitness journey not support it.
The website is a nightmare
The website is a nightmare, to send an inquiry you need to fill in the "I am not a robot" tool, but then the website keeps showing error. Every time I manage to put an inquiry through they never reply. I have been trying to reinstate my direct debit but the instructions they sent me do not work.
Avoid!!! Terrible service
After paying for 3 months and having not been able to use any of the facilities, they are still telling me to have patience and blaming HO. As if 3 months of paying for nothing it is not enough.
The staff are rude and disrespectful and don't actually care or bother to sort out anything for the customer, displaying a "don't really care" attitude, as you are clearly bothering them yet again.
Oli DM, told me that he will personally will phone HO to sort it out, but it was to shut me up, nothing actually got done, and when calling to request an update 2 weeks later, implied adamantly and very rudly, that I misunderstood, obviously I must be lying, nor him, considering I reiterated what he was going to do at the time.
The membership area manager looked into the issue, allegedly, but not only he didn't sort it out, but besides the fact that I have not been able to book anything in advance, now it is asking me for payment when making a booking, a complete joke
In the interim, they do not reply to my numerous messages requesting an update, a refund, who to contact to raise a formal complaint, and even ignoring the request to cancel my membership.
Jack, the General Manager, apparently he is always unreachable, and I am positive that he hasn't even been told that I have been trying to get hold of him, nor the poor service and attitude of his staff. Outrageous!!!
Please avoid, plenty of gyms in the area. I have been a member for years, and it has been getting worse.

Avoid if you like to plan ahead – Total booking disaster
I am beyond frustrated with my experience at Newbold Comyn. I am a planner and booked my 10:30 "family features" session online well in advance to avoid any issues. However, the system is completely broken. Despite trying the app, mobile site, and desktop across multiple browsers, I was unable to add my child to the booking.
When I arrived, I was told the system changed over the summer and now requires children to be registered with their own separate email addresses. This is an absurd and "stupid" requirement for a family-oriented facility. To make matters worse, staff admitted a note had previously been added to the app to warn people about this, but it has since been removed—leaving families like mine to walk into a "disaster" blindly.
The result? Upset children and ruined plans. I was told I could either swim alone while my child watched or come back hours later.
The most disappointing part was the management. The manager showed zero empathy, offered no apologies, and claimed they couldn't even process a refund for their own system's failure. If you value your time and your children’s happiness, I would suggest avoiding this centre until they fix their booking process and train their staff in basic customer service.
Decent gym
Decent gym. Good local gym for me, affordable except the sign up process is complicated and they say the joining fee is £10 but the way they do it is complicated to get you paying a lot more. Equipment is good but wish they had a hip thrust machine. Staff are friendly, especially Harmeet who always goes out of his way to greet everyone at reception which is rare nowadays and very much appreciated.
Great venue
Great venue, I do body pump there and my kids also swim there. Harmeet Gill on reception is always friendly and was extremely helpful when I had an issue with membership payment
Terrible customer service
Terrible customer service, when I first joined I signed up for the concession and went in with my birth certificate and college ID ready to prove my age, only for the person in reception to let me straight through without asking for any proof of my age! About a month later I receive and email saying they're gonna bump it up to an adult membership, I sent in my birth certificate over a week ago, they still charged me the full amount, refused to refund me and still haven't changed my account! It's horrible and it's a scam do NOT go to this gym if you want to keep your money, I recommend literally ANY other gym. I've sent multiple enquires now with no answer! Newbold comyn please do better.

At Newbold Comyn went swimming with my daughter. Got charged £14 for both of us. The baby was free. When I looked at prices online it was £4.70 per adult. 2 adults x £4.70 = £9.40 which means the cashier overcharged us by £4.60. When I queried this she just said that was the price. I think it's wrong to be charged so much when you have a baby and no swimming is actually being done.

Website is Shit
Whoever EA have got managing their website recently must be a complete NUMPTY.
It used to be so easy to create family memberships, make family bookings. Now, you have to have an individual membership for every member of your family.
We spent over an hour just to create two memberships for a one off swimming for a family of four. What a SHIT SITE!

Learning to swim at age 38
If you’re an adult and trying to learn swim, this the best place to learn. My trainer Richard is very good at teaching especially adults like me who take time to learn. He makes us comfortable with water and then teaches us in a very good way.

Disgusting
For over 3 years I have approached managers and staff at Newbold Comyn Leisure Centre, this is regarding a man who snots in the pool and showers, I have to get out when he gets in, I am lucky if I get 15 minutes of swim time. I am still waiting for a call back off management. over a month has passed, also others have complained, this is absolutely disgusting, I was told by Steve the manager that they couldn't do anything about it. !!!! Why, however a young man did take the man aside and had a quiet word, he was back to his habits within a week. I did speak to this mans son, his reply to me was "you try living with him" this remark says it all.
I will wait another week then will ring head office as their on-line complaints are clearly not working, Shame on you taking peoples money and expecting them to lower themselves to their standards

Took our grandchildren swimming to the Newbold Comyn Leasure Centre for a half term treat, it wasn't cheap but well worth the money for such a great morning out.

Well maintained, welcoming leisure centre.
All junior staff are friendly and professional.
I always enjoy my visits and value the centre very much.
My main negative comments are around the cleaning. Mats are disgusting, machines are dirty and sweat-marked, and floors only have a brush pushed round the most obvious bits with no attempt to clean edges or behind and around equipment. The outside approach to the centre is dirty.
Changing rooms and toilets (female) are usually well cleaned, however.
A Breast Cancer Screening Unit has been parked near the entrance for months, often with a diesel exhaust pointing at the access steps. The air pollution can not only be smelled but there is a dark patch of highly-carcinogenic particulate matter clearly deposited on the ground near the pipe. I suggest that the unit should be parked away further away from pedestrians.
There are not enough suitable hand weights in any class I attend so some people go without or are use weights that are uncomfortable and difficult to hold.
There should be 10kg kettlebells available upstairs.
