I booked a trip through Expedia and my family booked their trip at the same time. We had the same room type, same dates and they even had more people in there room but I got charged more. Like $100 more. I called and got someone I really struggled to understand. She could not explain to me other than the rates fluctuate. However, we booked at same time like within a couple days of each other and stayed at same time. I felt this was just plain poor service. She was like blank on the phone. I will never use Expedia again. I have deleted the app and will just direct bill next time.

I made a reservation then needed to…

I made a reservation then needed to change the arrival date to one day later. Expedia said online and over the phone I’d have to start a whole new reservation. But there were no more of the room types left. I didn’t need a new room, just to subtract 1 night from my stay. This was an impossible task. Even after speaking to a manager. Even when that manager called the hotel. She came back 47 min later to tell me the rate was now higher and I’d have to pay close to $1000 more for staying 1 night less! The most idiotic thing I’ve ever heard.

I called the hotel myself and made a reservation directly with them and canceled Expedia. The manager of the hotel told me the person from Expedia that called was as idiotic as I thought. Crisis averted and I save over $500! Go straight to the property. If this is how Expedia runs their business now. It’s all downhill for them.

Great Experience With Expedia Over Multiple Trips

I have used Expedia for three trips so far, and every experience has been excellent.

The booking process is simple, clear, and reliable. Prices have been competitive, and I was able to find good deals on flights and hotels without any issues. Everything was confirmed quickly, and I never experienced any surprises during or after booking.

What impressed me the most is their customer service. Whenever I needed assistance, the representatives were professional, helpful, and easy to reach. They took the time to answer my questions and resolve my concerns efficiently.

After three successful trips booked through Expedia, I can confidently recommend the platform. It has been reliable, easy to use, and backed by great customer support. I will definitely continue using Expedia for my future travels.

Expedia is not a secure sight and agents can't mediate when Major issues arrise!

Long story short...
I booked accommodations on Expedia's website and the hotel (not Expedia) charged me TWICE. I've been fighting with the hotel owner and several Expedia agents via phone and email (including the fraud department) to get this unauthorized charge reversed.
I also pointed out sketchy things I later found about the hotel itself (like multiple website and emails for the accommodations with security warnings popping up- directing them to Expedia) which were overlooked. I actually had to file police reports for possible fraud.
Because of all this, I wanted to cancel my booking for a full refund, despite the hotel's non-cancellation policy. Expedia can't help get initial deposit back, saying hotel owner won't release it.
I had to dispute both charges with my cc company and get a new card...
I thought booking via Expedia would give me peace of mind but they do not take responsibility if things go wrong and don't act as proper mediators. Site is not safe!
(A few months back, I booked other accommodations and kept receiving emails "from Expedia" saying they needed my cc card to complete my booking. I called the hotel direct to confirm everything was in order.)
Not sure what Expedia is good for, aside from looking to see what is available.
Not recommended for actually booking!!! It's better to call the hotels directly or book on their sites directly.

Do not book a European or UK rental car…

Do not book a European or UK rental car through Expedia. Rental agencies require a very large security deposit when renting a car at the “agreed on rate”. This is not disclosed transparently and if you cannot leave the deposit (Ireland was needing a €5,000 deposit), you will need to pay up to 5x what you thought your rental car would be. In the UK we were charged an additional £150, despite leaving the £1500 deposit. If renting in Ireland or Northern Ireland you also need a specific certificate of inclusion from your credit card insurance company, if you intend to use their coverage, and if you cannot provide this you are forced to pay for the additional coverage from the rental company, costing hundreds more than the agreed to price.

Long-time Expedia User Scammed

Long-time Expedia user that just scammed to the point where I am no longer comfortable using them again and recommend against anyone using their services.

I booked a hotel in Wales in January and upon arriving found the hotel had no record of the booking. Expedia had an internal system issue and registered the booking to a hotel with the same name hours away in England. This is despite my booking confirmation email explicitly listing the location as being in the town I selected in Wales. They insisted their records showed "the booking was made for this town in England", probably because they changed the location of the hotel in their system after the booking had been made. They only finally refunded the price after hours of resistance and gaslighting, calling it a "goodwill gesture".

Luckily the hotel had a room still available, but the rate was double what was initially booked. And on top of that, all the photos/descriptions on the Expedia booking platform were fake - the room didn't remotely match the photos/description. So in the end I'm out hundreds of extra dollars for a worse room than was advertised, with hours of a headache to even get the actual booking fee refunded.

I continued correspondence to try to simply get them to cover the difference and they refused to do it, repeatedly insisting their records are right and my confirmation email (showing the location I booked) is not to be relied on. You know, the entire purpose of a booking confirmation, apparently can't be relied on?

I think they are using AI to form their hotel booking pages and clearly mistakes like these are falling through the cracks. Had the hotel been full I would have been out on the street in the middle of the night. Garbage company that won't accept its dangerous mistakes to refund long-time customers - avoid at all costs.

Poor customer service for reimbursement due to Expedia's error

Our recent experience with Expedia was one of the most frustrating customer service experiences we have encountered.

An Expedia error involving the handling and ticket issuance of our outbound flight from Toronto caused us to miss our original departure and arrive in Paris one full day late. As a direct result, we lost a prepaid hotel night and a prepaid Versailles tour.

What followed was weeks of extremely disappointing customer service.

Rather than addressing the actual issue — Expedia’s role in causing the missed travel and financial losses — customer support repeatedly responded with scripted statements about hotel cancellation policies and “partner restrictions,” even after the situation had been clearly explained multiple times.

At no point did it feel like anyone was genuinely reviewing the facts of the case. Responses appeared repetitive, dismissive, and designed to avoid accountability rather than resolve the problem fairly.

We spent far more time than should ever be necessary repeatedly providing the same information, requesting escalation, and trying to get Expedia to acknowledge the direct connection between their booking error and our losses.

Although reimbursement was eventually provided, it only came after persistent follow-up and significant unnecessary stress. A resolution should not require customers to fight this hard over a problem that originated with the company itself.

This experience left us with very little confidence in Expedia’s customer service or its willingness to take responsibility when serious booking issues occur. We will be very hesitant to use Expedia again for future travel.

Very disappointed with Expedia and the…

Very disappointed with Expedia and the overall handling of my mother’s flight situation.

Not only was the flight cancelled after we had paid a high fare, but now we are being told that the airline refund may take 8 to 10 WEEKS, not days. This means we are forced to spend money again immediately to purchase a new ticket while waiting more than two months to recover the original payment.

What is most frustrating is that nobody wants to take real responsibility. Expedia says it is the airline, the airline points elsewhere, and meanwhile customers are left dealing with the financial and emotional stress.

This was especially difficult because the trip involved my mother. Extremely disappointing experience and customer support process overall.

I recently booked a trip to Scottsdale…

I recently booked a trip to Scottsdale for a wedding through Expedia.ca. The flight and car rental came to around $400, but things quickly went sideways at the rental counter.
When I went to pick up the car, they pushed me to upgrade my insurance — fair enough, better coverage is always a good idea. What wasn’t fair was the price: nearly $100 per day, with zero transparency about the cost upfront. I only felt the full impact when I got home and saw the total.
I reached out to both Expedia and the rental company to resolve it, and both were completely unhelpful. By the end of it, the car rental alone cost nearly as much as my round-trip flight from Toronto to Arizona.
Do yourself a favour — avoid this rental company entirely. They’ll upsell you on the spot, hide the pricing, and leave you with serious sticker shock.

I had a very disappointing experience…

I had a very disappointing experience with the CIBC Rewards / Expedia travel portal while trying to book a flight using my Aventura points.

I selected a flight at a specific listed price and proceeded through the booking process. However, when I reached checkout, the price suddenly almost doubled. I immediately contacted customer support, expecting assistance or at least an explanation beyond scripted responses.

Unfortunately, the support experience was extremely poor. The representatives kept repeating the same line about “live inventory” and that “someone else may have booked the seat,” without actually addressing the issue.

What makes this even more frustrating is that even 30 minutes later, the lower price was STILL showing on the website listing. If the fare was no longer available, why was the system continuing to display it?

I understand flight prices can change, but when a platform continues showing an unavailable price and causes delays/confusion during checkout, customers should not be expected to simply absorb the higher cost without any support or resolution.

For a major financial institution and travel platform partnership, I expected:

* more reliable pricing accuracy
* better transparency
* and customer support empowered to actually help

Very frustrating experience overall.

Dissapointing…

My experience with Expedia was very dissapointing. The hotel advertised free breakfast but there wasn't. The second hotel we stayed at the room was dirty and the shower was missing a shower curtian. I contacted Expedia about the issue and they were of no help. We decided to check out and leave a day earlier and Expedia wanted us to pay $75.00 to contact the hotel about the lost day we payed for. I don't recommend Expedia and will not use them again.

Expedia Refuses Resolution: Falsehoods & Bad Faith

Update (June 4, 2026):
I am still awaiting a resolution. Since my initial review, I escalated this to the BBB. Expedia’s response to the BBB contained documented falsehoods regarding the account holder's identity and falsely maintained the "no-show" claim, despite evidence I provided from Sixt Car Rental that proved otherwise. Expedia promised supervisor follow-up that never occurred.

This is no longer just a service issue; it is a systemic pattern of misrepresentation. Beware of this company’s bad-faith tactics.

(Original review, May 4, 2026) This is a case of blatant bad faith. I paid almost $1000 for a Sixt car rental in Pisa, Italy. I arrived at the Sixt desk at 4:10 PM for a 4:30 PM pick-up. Sixt refused to provide the car due to a purported "account block".

I contacted Expedia support via live chat immediately at 4:10 PM. I was actively communicating with their Agent Rumana for 20 minutes before the rental was even set to begin.

Expedia is now refusing a refund by falsely claiming I was a "No Show." I have screenshots and timestamps proving I was there and seeking help while the agent kept me on hold to let the clock run out. Keeping my money for a service you refused to provide is fraudulent.

Customer Service

Booed a hotel transfer through Expedia for 400 CANADIAN. They never came to pick us up for the return. We waited 45 minutes the hotel staff kept going to check if they were there. We called a taxi because we were going to miss our flight. I tried calling the transfer company they said they'd call be back in ten and never did. So we took the taxi and paid another 120USD. I called Expedia for a refund a month and half ago they said they couldn't give me one until they contacted the company but they would get back to be within 2 weeks. Never heard back. I'll never use them again

BAD experience with Expedia

I booked with expedia for a hotel thinking it was in Canadian dollars (it was a Canadian hotel and I was booking from Canada). Turned out it was in USD and it was not clear. After a lot of complaining (with a challenging customer service process), and having to escalate it, they finally gave me onekey cash. Then, when I went to use the onekey cash for a flight, it wouldn't work. The service rep said it's easier to use onekey cash for hotel. But I rarely stay in hotels so I doubt I can use this credit. Onekey is a scam because it is the partner (airline, hotel) that seems to have to absorb the cost of the onekey, rather than expedia. What a scam. I will NEVER book with Expedia again. It was a terrible experience
