Likeable but not trustworthy

I engaged Finethorp to do the heating and hot water for my house in Brixton. They ended up doing most of my renovation work. The work was initially done well. My problems started once the project was nearly finished. Oli persuaded me to install an expensive system to control the heating, security, etc. He never finished the set up and left us with expensive, unusable equipment. I needed to contact him every time I wanted to change the heating settings. Three times I contacted the parent company to ask them to recommend an alternative installer and they obviously contacted Oli because on each of those occasions he came and started work again immediately, and then disappeared for months. Three months ago I finally contacted another installer who came to do an audit of my system and what it needed to be completed. To my alarm the assessor found that the set up presented a fire hazard. Apparently the wrong part had been used. You pay a lot of money for Oli's expertise. Not so worth it if he inadvertently installs a fire hazard into your lovely new house.

I was also told by an employee that some of the concrete I paid for went walkabouts to another project Oli was doing.

Poor workmanship and communication

It is with real sadness that I've been left with no other choice but to leave this review as a warning for any potential clients. Finethorp pretty much rebuilt my Victorian home using breathable, eco materials. This came at an enormous cost but the final product does not reflect that. The lime plaster used all over my house is falling off in chunks and is cracked everywhere. Where wallpaper has been used, it is coming away from the walls and bringing the plaster with it. I have had many professionals take a look including a lime specialist and each of them have been shocked by the workmanship both in terms of the rubbish finish and the clear evidence that corners were cut during application. It has been confirmed multiple times that the only way forward is to replaster my entire home which would be a major upheaval for my family and cost upwards of £100k. Oliver Cox refuses to accept any responsibility and ignored a Call to Action letter from my solicitor despite being given a detailed report on the state of the plaster and seeing for himself first hand the situation. I also have a leak in my new underfloor heating which the heating company assure was not installation error as the system was thoroughly pressure tested and signed off. They say it therefore must have been damaged by the Finethorp builders. Again, no accountability has been taken by Oliver and I'm left to live with this problem. To be fair, there are plenty of things that have been done well, but Oliver's treatment of his clients in this situation has been shocking and left me feeling depressed and stuck. We have spent every penny we had on this project and have been left with a crumbly mess and no money to fix it. Finethorp's Instagram tagline says they are "Committed to sustainable, breathable buildings & great outcomes". In our case at least, this is very far from the truth. Oliver is very charming and says what you want to hear but be aware that if you encounter problems, he will deflect and dodge.

5 star service & highly recommended.

Oliver and his team of craftsmen have just completed a 9 month long refurbishment of 3 dwellings. This included some mechanical engineering, bathroom fit outs, new kitchens, outside areas, carpentry & general building works.

The finish has been faultless, & any minor issues were quickly corrected at their cost & time so no inconvenience was at our expense.

We have worked with this company for years, and would never hesitate to recommend.

The team of builders are incredibly talented & seemingly are looked after well as they have stayed with Finethorp for years.

My 5 radiator valves were installed by…

My 5 radiator valves were installed by Finethorpe in 2019 (the whole process cost £925). Now having to pay for new valves again due to values no longer working. Yet another situation work carried out that has broken.
